Handgun, Ammunition, Illicit Drugs and Cash Seized during Proactive Traffic Stop

While on proactive patrol a Hamilton Police officer noted a driver operating his vehicle without his seat belt activated. A traffic stop resulted in police locating a firearm, ammunition, drugs and cash. The male was taken into police custody and appeared in court today.

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Hamilton Police observed a red Honda Civic operating on Main Street East near Tisdale Street South. At the time the driver was not wearing his seatbelt. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was unable to produce the appropriate documentation. Through investigation, police learned the information provided by the driver was incorrect. He was placed under arrested and taken into police custody.

A search of the driver revealed he was in possession of illicit drugs, Canadian currency and personal identification. In accordance with the law, the immediate area around the driver’s seat was searched and a .357 Magnum handgun, ammunition as well as additional drugs were located.

An investigation into the driver’s identity confirmed his arrest was in violation of two court orders and the existence of an outstanding warrant of arrest in Quebec.

The driver was taken into custody and appeared in court today to answer to numerous criminal charges.
