Youth and Young Adult Bringing Weapons to School Leads to Criminal Charges

Hamilton Police would like to warn students against bringing weapons to school after two males were arrested for weapons charges on the school property of Glendale Secondary School located at 145 Rainbow Drive in the City of Hamilton.

On Friday October 11, 2019, shortly after 2:45 p.m., an on-line feud between two youths resulted in one of the youths attending Glendale Secondary School with an adult friend. These two males carried with them a small hatchet and pocket knife.

They were not able to find the person they were looking for and there were no assaults that took place. The two male suspects did show the weapons to other students who were still at the school. After staff members from the school told the suspects that police had been called, they ran off leaving the area before police arrived.

As a result of the subsequent police investigation, two males were charged with weapons offences and one court order breach.

Charged:

17 year old male of Hamilton –

Threatening, Possession of a Weapon and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

18 year old male of Hamilton –

Possession of a Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Breach of release conditions.

Hamilton Police take each and every school investigation seriously to ensure schools remain safe places for students and staff. The consequences for bringing any type of weapon to school could result in an arrest and criminal charges, as well as a suspension or an expulsion from school. We ask families to talk with their children about the seriousness of bringing weapons to school.
