UPDATE 2: Detectives Charge Geoffrey Burnet with further Sexual Offences

As a result of a media release that was provided to the community on September 22, 2016, a young female has come forward and reported being sexually exploited by Geoffrey William Burnet.

On November 23, 2016, Geoffrey William Burnet was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation. At that time, he was held in custody with his bail opposed.

On November 28, 2016 Geoffrey William Burnet was released from custody by the courts on a Recognizance of Bail.  

Charged: Geoffrey William Burnet – 48 year old man from Kitchener, ON

Charges: Sexual Exploitation

The Hamilton Police Service Victims of Crime Unit continues to investigate and believe that there may be more victims who have had contact with Geoffrey William Burnet.

Individuals and witnesses with further information in relation to any sexual assault occurrences involving Geoffrey William Burnet are encouraged to contact Detective Michelle Wiley at (905) 546-3856.

We have now received information that confirms Geoffrey Burnet is no longer employed by the Columbia International College as was previously indicated. His employment with Columbia International College did not date back to the dates and times of the alleged offences as charged.

Please update accordingly.

Teacher Charged With Sexual Offences

Released Thursday September 22, 2016

In May of 2016, the Hamilton Police Service commenced an investigation into child sexual abuse which developed into an on-line child exploitation investigation.  The investigation led to a review of a historical child sexual assault investigation that had occurred between January 2007 and December 2008 in the City of Hamilton.

On Tuesday September 20, 2016, Geoffrey Burnet was arrested and charged by the Hamilton Police Service. Geoffrey Burnet was released on a Recognizance after a bail hearing Wednesday September 21, 2016.

Geoffrey Burnet has been identified as a School Teacher who is currently employed by the Columbia International College.  Investigation has also confirmed that Burnet has been employed by the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board and the Upper Grand District School Board as well as the Toronto District School Board.

Charged:      Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference and Invitation to Sexual Touching
