Hamilton Police Vice and Drug Unit execute search warrant at Ottawa St marijuana dispensary

Hamilton Police were made aware of an illegal marijuana dispensary operating in the City of Hamilton on Ottawa Street. It was determined that the operator of this dispensary was committing the criminal acts of possession for the purpose of trafficking marihuana and THC because they were selling or giving away marihuana or marihuana derivatives from their location.

On Tuesday February 14, 2017, just before 1:00 p.m., the Hamilton Police Vice and Drug Unit were authorized to execute a search warrant at the property known as “MMJ-Canada” located at 146 Ottawa Street North in Hamilton.

As a result of the search, police seized an estimated $100,000 worth of marihuana and marihuana derivative products in various forms which included processed marihuana and edible THC based products.

Police arrested and charged a 28 year old man from Hamilton with a number of offences. The man was released on a promise to appear in court at a future date to answer to the charges.

CHARGES: Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marihuana, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – THC, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Resin, Proceeds of Crime Under $5000

The Federal Government has committed to making changes to the laws and regulations in relation to marihuana; however, until such changes are proclaimed law, the present provision of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act in relation to the possession and sale of marihuana remain in force.

The Hamilton Police Service is dedicated to investigating all allegations of criminal activity, including the suspected selling or trafficking of marihuana from dispensaries of other illicit drugs anywhere within the City of Hamilton.
