Detectives Investigate Extortion in the area of King Street West

On Tuesday October 11, 2016, the Hamilton Police Service began to investigate reports of an alleged extortion involving an employee at Nations Fresh Foods located at 2 King Street West.

Police received reports that an individual working in Loss Prevention at Nations Fresh Foods would arrest individual(s) for alleged offences, such as shoplifting.  After being arrested, the individual(s) were then told that they were required to pay a fee in order to avoid having the matter being reported to police.

As a result of the police investigation, on February 22nd, 2017, a 30 year old man from Hamilton was arrested and charged.

CHARGES: Extortion x3, Fraud Under $5000 x2

The man has been released on a Promise to Appear and is expected to appear in court on March 27, 2017.

Detectives believe there may be more victim(s) who have not yet reported similar incidents. Detectives would like to speak to anyone regarding this ongoing extortion investigation.
