On September 21st, 2017, shortly before 2:00 pm, Hamilton Police responded to the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre to assist Hamilton EMS with a medical call for service.
Initial investigation has revealed that during the course of their duties, Correctional Officers within the Detention Centre came into contact with an unknown substance. The contact with the unknown substance resulted in a request for medical assistance. A Correctional Officer was transported to hospital and has since been released.
As the contact between the Correctional Officer and the unknown substance is believed to have resulted in the medical call for assistance, the Hamilton Police Vice and Drug Unit is investigating. Analysis of the unknown substance will be conducted by Health Canada and police are awaiting those results.
