Arrest Made in Overnight Dundas Fires

A 17-year-old Hamilton youth will appear in court today to answer to criminal charges related to several overnight arson incidents in the Dundas area.

On Sunday, December 22, 2019, shortly after midnight, police responded to the Dundas Driving Park after a male was seen attempting to light fires in the park. After speaking with a witness police located the suspect hiding in a playground structure. He was arrested without incident and found to be in possession of evidence to support his involvement in recent arson activities.

Through investigation, police learned of several other incidents that occurred during the previous hours where items such as a dumpster, garbage cans, etc., around the community were set on fire. Police believe the male is responsible for the incidents. An investigation into his identity confirmed he was bound by a court order for similar actions and his arrest signified a violation to that order. He was advised of the additional charges and was taken into police custody.

The male is expected to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Monday, December 23, 2019, to answer to several charges.
