Arrest Made in Street Disturbances

One male is in custody and efforts continue in the search for another after police investigated reports of street disturbances in an east-end community.

On Monday, August 19, 2019, shortly before 10:30 p.m., Hamilton Police received information regarding a street disturbance in the area Barton Street East and Strathearne Avenue. At this time, a male was reported to been injured after being assaulted with a bat. Police located the 62-year-old male at the scene, he was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the immediate area was secured.

Through investigation, police learned the injured male was involved in a dispute with two other males which led to an armed confrontation. A 21-year-old Hamilton man was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. He will appear in court later today to answer to criminal charges.

A female who was present was investigated but later released without facing criminal charges.

The identity of the second male was later learned. He fled the scene prior to police arrival and he remains outstanding as efforts continue for his arrest.

The injured male was charged with the possession of a prohibited weapon and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, September 19, 2019.

This was the fourth incident for the evening involving the parties.

Evidence at the scene has been seized for the court proceedings.
