Dangerous Driver Arrested

A 33-year-old male will appear in court today after police investigated a suspicious vehicle in the area of Barton Street East and Smith Street.

On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, shortly after 6:30 p.m., police observed a blue Ford Fusion parked in the area of Barton Street East and Smith Avenue. At the time, the driver continued to exit and enter the vehicle as he communicated with other people loitering in the area. An investigation revealed the licence plate was not authorized for the vehicle. As police initiated a traffic stop, the driver attempted to flee, striking a police cruiser, mounting the sidewalk and driving in a dangerous manner. The vehicle was eventually stopped and the driver arrested. A search of the vehicle revealed the male was in possession of two knives, one dagger style and the other for filleting.

An investigation into the male’s identity confirmed he was a disqualified driver with several prohibitions.

He was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today to answer to several criminal charges.

The Ford Fusion was seized and is scheduled for a 45-day impoundment.
