Driver Charged in Collision that Closed McNeilly Road

Hamilton Police investigated an early morning single motor vehicle collision that shut down McNeilly Road for hours. The occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital and the 16–year–old driver was later charged with two violations.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at approximately 4:30 a.m., a 1999 Volvo C70 coupe was travelling downbound on McNeilly Road. At that time the vehicle left the roadway, rolled over and continued into the tree line. Inside the vehicle were four occupants; three passengers all 15-years-of–age and the driver 16-years-of-age. The passengers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver’s injuries initially appeared to be serious and the scene was held until his condition was upgraded to non-life-threatening. The roadway remained closed until after 10:00 a.m. as crew worked to remove the vehicle from the tree line.

The investigation of the collision was carried out by the Divisional Traffic Officer. During that time it was learned the driver did not hold the proper licence to operate that motor vehicle.
