Driver Rams Police Vehicle Trying to Flee

A police cruiser is rammed while trying to identify occupants inside a suspicious vehicle.

On May 2, 2020, shortly before 2:00 p.m., an officer was patrolling in the area of Barton Street East and Chapple Street in Hamilton when he noticed a parked grey Mazda with three occupants inside and no front plate.

Police stopped their cruiser several feet from the Mazda’s front bumper in order to identify the occupants. At this time the male driver accelerated forward and rammed the front of the police car while attempting to maneuver free from the area. The failed effort resulted in the three people exiting the car and fleeing on foot. The occupants were quickly apprehended by police and arrested. A search inside the vehicle located crystal meth and various drug items.

Police identified the rear plate as stolen.

The three individuals were brought into custody and release with a future court date of July 8, 2020.
