On Thursday September 24, 2026 at approximately 8:15a.m., officers were called to the area of Centennial Parkway and Queenston Road for a report of a stabbing. Initial information stated that a 45-year-old female was seated on a bench in the Eastgate Square bus terminal shelter reading a book when she was attacked from behind. The interaction was brief and the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

The Victim suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatement.

A full description of the suspect was not captured; however he is believed to be a male wearing a black t-shirt and dark coloured pants. He may also have been wearing a backpack at the time of the incident.

At this time, this incident is believed to have been an unprovoked, random attack.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and asking those in the area between the hours of 7:45am to 8:15am to contact Police if they observed anything suspicious.

Hamilton Police have arrested Ebunoluwa Tomiwa after he turned himself into Police earlier this morning. Tomiwa will be appearing in court for a bail hearing.

Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, 33 years old, of Belleville was arrested for the following charges;

• Trafficking in Persons 

• Procuring for Sexual Services

• Material Benefit – Trafficking of Persons

• Withholding Documents

Each division will initially deploy four dedicated ACTION officers, with the teams expanding to eight full-time officers in each division by January 2027.

ACTION – Addressing Crime Trends In Our Neighbourhoods – provides divisions with dedicated resources to respond to emerging and persistent crime and public safety concerns. Officers will focus on crime trends, chronic offenders and recurring neighbourhood issues while building relationships with residents, businesses and community partners.

“Every neighbourhood is unique, and the concerns of the people who live and work there need to be heard to help inform our response,” says Hamilton Police Chief Frank Bergen. “ACTION gives our divisions dedicated resources to focus on those concerns, strengthen relationships and proactively address the issues impacting community safety and quality of life.”

ACTION officers will use evidence-based and intelligence-led policing to identify where resources are needed and will combine prevention, intervention, enforcement and community engagement to address local priorities.

Officers will be highly visible and in uniform, deploying in marked police vehicles and, where appropriate, on foot and bicycle. Teams will primarily operate during the day and evening, when opportunities for proactive enforcement and community engagement are greatest.

Each team will report to its divisional Crime Manager, allowing officers to be deployed based on divisional crime trends, intelligence and community concerns.

ACTION was originally introduced as a city-wide initiative focused on reducing violence and enhancing community safety. As staffing needs evolved, its proactive approach and resources were integrated into frontline patrol, continuing to support community safety across Hamilton.

The return of ACTION reimagines that model by giving Divisions 20 and 30 dedicated teams tailored to the needs of the communities they serve. The additional staffing was approved in the 2026 police budget.

Division 1 will continue to deploy eight dedicated CORE officers focused on Hamilton’s downtown. CORE will retain its existing designation and operational mandate.

Members of the Hamilton Police Service Central HEAT Unit have seized significant quantities of illicit drugs, prescription medications, Canadian currency and prohibited weapons following a month-long investigation into drug trafficking in central Hamilton.

On September 17, 2026, officers executed two search warrants at residences in central Hamilton as part of an investigation involving Zijie ZHOU.

As a result of searches, officers seized the following:

• 1.4 kilograms of fentanyl
• 900 grams of methamphetamine
• 200 grams of cocaine
• More than 35,000 prescription pills, including oxycodone, hydromorphone, morphine and benzodiazepines
• Canadian currency
• Two prohibited weapons

The illicit drugs seized are estimated to have a street value of approximately $250,000. The prescription medications are estimated to have a street value of approximately $600,000.

Investigators believe that a significant quantity of the prescription medications were initially obtained through legitimate prescriptions before being diverted into the illegal drug trade for non-medical purposes.

As a result of the investigation, Zijie ZHOU has been charged with numerous offences, including, but not limited to:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — Fentanyl, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — Cocaine, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Possession of Prohibited Weapon x2

A 2017 Acura Integra struck a male pedestrian as the driver was exiting the parking garage.

The male pedestrian was transported to the hospital, with serious life-threatening injuries. 

All investigative avenues are being considered at this time.

On Friday, September 18, 2026, at approximately 2:12 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of King Street East and Lawrence Road following reports of a shooting.

Patrol officers located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds and provided assistance. Both were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Shooting Response Team (SRT) assumed carriage of the investigation and believes the shooting was targeted. The Homicide Unit is now assisting with the investigation following the laying of the Attempted Murder charge.

On September 18, 2026 at approximately 1:00a.m., officers were called to hotel on Main Street West near Whitney Avenue for a disturbance. Initial information stated that a group of individuals were physically fighting and one male was bleeding.

Upon arrival, officers located the injured male, a 54-year old male from Hamilton, and provided assistance with his wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hamilton Police Special Constables located the suspect, a 35-year-old male from Hamilton, at a nearby location. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.

The Hamilton Police k9 unit conducted a search of the area and located the knife used in the incident.

Hamilton Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two females wanted in connection with an assault that left a Hamilton woman with serious injuries.

On July 17, 2026, at approximately 10:35 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Market Street, near Caroline Street North, following a report of an assault.

A 47-year-old woman from Hamilton was standing outside the residence when she was approached and confronted by two unknown females. The victim was assaulted and sustained serious injuries that required surgery. She was transported to a local hospital, where she received medical treatment.

Officers conducted a search of the surrounding area; however, the two suspects were not located.

Police are seeking to identify the following individuals:

• Approximately 15 to 24 years of age
• Long black hair
• Wearing a black shirt and black shorts

Suspect 2:

• Female

• Medium build
• Wearing white or grey shorts and a tank top

On Wednesday September 16, 2026 at approximately 7:30p.m., a female youth was walking along the sidewalk of Mud Street near First Road West when she was approached by two males on an E-Scooter. The males produced a BB gun and fired multiple pellets toward her as they scootered by.

The victim continued walking and encountered the males a second time near a pedestrian tunnel close to Valley Park Recreation Center. The males began firing more pellets while the victim attempted to run away.

A description of the suspects could not be obtained, however officers are working on collecting CCTV footage from homes and businesses in the area and are also appealing for witnesses.

The video is connected to an active investigation into two targeted incidents that occurred on July 25, 2026. One youth has been charged, and investigators continue to work to identify the remaining individuals involved.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., a vehicle occupied by several youths attended a residence on the Hamilton Mountain. Two people were sprayed with bear spray, with one sustaining minor injuries.

Investigators believe the individuals at the residence were targeted because of their connection to the intended targets.

Later that afternoon, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to Burkholder Park after receiving reports of a vehicle being driven through the park.

Several youths were observed inside the vehicle. During the incident, the vehicle was driven toward the intended targets while bear spray was discharged from a window. One occupant was also observed holding a large knife outside the vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators believe the two incidents are connected, and both were targeted.

Police identified the driver of the vehicle and made an arrest later that day. The accused, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was held for a bail hearing and charged with:

• Dangerous Operation
• Disguise with Intent
• Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
• Assault with a Weapon
• Administering a Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Bodily Harm
• Fail to Comply with Probation x2

The vehicle used during the incidents had been reported stolen and has since been recovered by police and held for forensic examination.

The investigation remains ongoing as investigators work to identify the remaining individuals involved. Police believe the outstanding suspects are also youths.

On September 14, 2026, at approximately 10:36 p.m., a male entered a convenience store in downtown Hamilton and indicated that he was in possession of a firearm. The male proceeded to rob the business and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On September 15, 2026, at approximately 12:50 a.m., two individuals entered a convenience store in the Crown Point neighbourhood. After remaining inside the business for a period of time, the individuals robbed the store of cash before fleeing the area.

Based on the circumstances of the incidents, investigators believed the second robbery may be connected to the earlier robbery. Members of the Hamilton Police Service BEAR Unit subsequently mobilized in the area and conducted proactive patrols at convenience stores throughout the neighbourhood. Officers spoke with clerks and business owners to make them aware of the recent robberies and provided a visible police presence.

While conducting these patrols, officers interrupted two individuals who were actively in the process of robbing a third convenience store in the Crown Point neighbourhood.

The individuals fled the area on foot but were apprehended by officers following a short foot pursuit. Both were arrested without further incident.

A 21-year-old male has been charged with:

A 20-year-old male has been charged with:

• Robbery x 3
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 6

The investigation remains ongoing. At this time, investigators do not believe there are any additional outstanding suspects.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate the death of a man who was assaulted in May and later died from his injuries.

On May 31, 2026, at approximately 11:20 a.m., police responded to the area of Wentworth Street North and Bristol Street following reports of an assault.

Officers located an adult male suffering from a serious head injury. He was transported to hospital, where he remained until his death on July 30, 2026.

As the investigation progressed, detectives determined the assault occurred in Pinky Lewis Parkette, located at 169 Sanford Avenue North.

Investigators are working to identify the person responsible and believe the suspect frequents the Tim Hortons located at 505 Cannon Street East. Images of the subject are being released.

The suspect is described as:

• Black male
• Medium build
• White T-shirt
• White shorts
• White bucket-style hat

The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives continue to pursue several investigative avenues.

Investigators with the Hamilton Police Major Drugs and Gangs, Human Trafficking Unit have charged a man in connection with a human trafficking investigation.

The investigation began in September 2026, after Hamilton Police learned of a video that was released on social media.  

On August 29, 2026, Ariel Rojas approached a fifteen-year-old youth and offered to facilitate her engaging in sexual services. Rojas asked the victim to participate in making pornographic material.

Ariel Rojas was arrested and held for bail.

Charges:

• Criminal Harassment
• Invitation to Sexual Touching
• Procuring for Sexual Services Under 18
• Fail to Comply Probation (x4)

Hamilton Police are releasing an image of Ariel Rojas as investigators believe there are additional victims and witnesses and are encouraging them to come forward.

On July 22, 2026, at approximately 12:24 a.m., two individuals entered a City of Hamilton facility in central Hamilton and stole several sets of keys belonging to City fleet vehicles. The suspects then left the area in a stolen City vehicle.

Within hours, one of the stolen vehicles was stopped by police in another jurisdiction for stunt driving and seized. At the time of the traffic stop, the vehicle had not yet been reported stolen.

As the investigation progressed, detectives with the Hamilton Police Break, Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (BEAR) Unit connected the vehicle to the break-in. A second stolen City vehicle was later recovered by Hamilton Police during an unrelated investigation. Both vehicles have since been returned to the City of Hamilton.

Investigators identified two men and warrants were issued for their arrest.

Mark MCCOMBE, 55, was arrested in Toronto while attempting to board a flight leaving the country.

Brandon POOLE, 35, remains wanted and is believed to have no fixed address, frequenting the Hamilton, Niagara and Burlington areas.

Both men face the following charges:

• Break and Enter – Commit Theft
• Disguise with Intent
• Theft of a Motor Vehicle

In July 2025, Hamilton Police received a report concerning content posted publicly to an account on the social media platform X. The Hamilton Police Hate Crime Unit began an investigation into the account and the material being shared.

Through the investigation, police identified Simran MANDER, 27, of Stoney Creek, as the individual believed to be operating the account.

Following the required consent of the Attorney General to proceed with charges, MANDER was arrested on September 9, 2026, and charged with:

• Wilful Promotion of Hatred
• Wilful Promotion of Antisemitism
• Advocating Genocide

The charges have not been proven in court.

On Monday, September 7, 2026, at approximately 6:22 p.m., the man was found unresponsive on the sidewalk near Dundas Street East and 1st Street. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Based on the circumstances known at the time, the death was not considered suspicious.

In the days that followed, investigators reviewed video footage, spoke with witnesses and received additional information, including findings from a post-mortem examination. As the investigation progressed, information emerged that raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

The death is now being investigated as suspicious and the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit has assumed carriage of the investigation. At this time, the death has not been classified as a homicide.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Dundas Street East between Spring Creek Drive and 1st Street from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on September 7 and may have witnessed anything that could assist the investigation.

Police are also asking residents, businesses and motorists in the area to review security, doorbell and dash camera footage from that timeframe. Investigators are particularly interested in any footage that captured activity along Dundas Street East or the surrounding area.

On Friday, September 4, 2026, shortly before 7:00 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of John Prentice Park, near Renata Court. Officers located three males near a wooded area of the park. Two were arrested nearby, while a third fled the area.

The Shooting Response Team, with assistance from Divisional Criminal Investigations, assumed carriage of the investigation and determined that a firearm had been discharged multiple times.

On September 8, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at a Hamilton residence and seized several firearms, ammunition, armoured plating and tactical equipment.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals have been charged:

• A 27-year-old Oakville man with Careless Use of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
• A 25-year-old Thornbury man with Careless Use of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

A 25-year-old Dundas man has also been identified and is currently wanted for Careless Use of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.

Investigators continue to seek information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have dash camera, residential security or cellphone video from the area at the time of the shooting.

On September 9, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers were called to the area of Main Street West and Frid Street for a report of a stabbing. A 16-year-old male victim called 911 and reported that he had been randomly attacked by an unknown male and believed he had suffered a stab wound.

Officers immediately attended the area and located the victim. He was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

Several roads in the area were closed to assist with the search for the suspect and the investigation.

The suspect was located nearby and arrested without incident. Members of the Hamilton Police K9 Unit searched the area and successfully located the weapon believed to have been used in the attack.

The operator of the aforementioned motorcycle was transported to a local area hospital by EMS, with serious, life threatening injuries.  The stretch of Queenston Road (east and west), between the north and south exits to the Redhill Valley Parkway will be closed for several hours.

The initiative is a direct action coming out of the Downtown Safety Summit, where community partners, businesses and residents identified drug activity and its impact on the downtown as an ongoing concern. Since the Summit, Hamilton Police have continued to move forward with actions informed by those discussions, including the opening of the new police substation in Jackson Square.

Information submitted through the online reporting tool will be reviewed by the appropriate Divisional Crime Manager. Reports can help police identify recurring locations, patterns and emerging concerns, and may support operational planning or follow-up by officers.

An online report does not necessarily result in an officer being dispatched or attending immediately. If an incident is in progress, there is an immediate risk to public safety or emergency assistance is required, call 9-1-1. The new tool is intended specifically for observed drug-related activity. It is not a general reporting mechanism for broader concerns related to social disorder.

Report Drug-Related Activity Online

Hamilton Police continue to work with residents, businesses and community partners on actions identified through the Downtown Safety Summit to improve safety and address concerns affecting Hamilton’s downtown and communities across the city.

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, shortly after 4:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a pedestrian-involved collision on King Street West near Dundurn Street North.

A Ford Edge SUV was exiting the Tim Hortons Plaza parking lot onto King Street West when it lost control and struck a 54-year-old man waiting in a nearby bus shelter. The man was transported to hospital with serious, life-altering injuries. The female driver was not injured.

On Monday September 1, 2026, the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit concluded this investigation. As a result, a 36-year-old female from the City of Hamilton has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm, contrary to Section 130(3) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The first days of school bring increased pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic to our roads. Everyone has a role to play in ensuring students can travel to and from school safely.

 School bus safety

School buses make frequent stops to pick up and drop off students. Drivers are reminded to:

• Stop when approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Drivers travelling in both directions must stop unless separated from the bus by a median.
• Remain stopped until the bus has resumed motion, the lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm is no longer extended.
• Never pass a stopped school bus.
• Watch carefully for children who may be crossing the road or walking near a bus.
• Allow extra time when travelling through neighbourhoods during school drop-off and pick-up periods.
• Parents and caregivers should remind children to wait for the bus at a safe distance from the roadway and to follow the bus driver's instructions.

E-bike and e-scooter safety

Students using e-bikes and e-scooters to travel to school should understand the rules of the road and take appropriate safety precautions.

 Riders are reminded:

• You must be at least 16 years of age to operate an e-bike or e-scooter.
• Riders 16-17 years old must wear a helmet.
• Follow traffic signs, signals and applicable rules of the road.
• Use lights and reflective equipment when riding in low-light conditions.
• Be especially cautious at intersections, driveways and pedestrian crossings.
• Parents and caregivers are encouraged to discuss safe riding habits with young people before they begin travelling to school independently.

Driver awareness

Drivers are reminded that children do not always behave predictably around roadways. A child may suddenly enter the street, cross between parked vehicles or be distracted by friends.

 Drivers should:

• Slow down and remain alert in school zones and residential neighbourhoods.
• Follow posted speed limits and obey crossing guards.
• Stop and yield to pedestrians who are crossing the roadway.
• Avoid stopping or parking in locations that block crosswalks, sidewalks, bus stops or sightlines.
• Put phones and other distractions away while driving.
• Check carefully for pedestrians and cyclists before turning or opening a vehicle door.
• Expect increased congestion and leave earlier rather than rushing through school-area traffic.

 Hamilton Police will have an increased presence around schools as students return to class and will continue to monitor traffic and address unsafe driving behaviour.
