Female Struck by Vehicle on Cannon Street East

Hamilton Police are looking for witnesses to come forward regarding a female pedestrian struck in the early morning hours of July 31, 2019. A male is in custody and now facing several criminal charges.

On July 31, 2019, shortly after 4:00 a.m., Police attended the intersection of Cannon Street East and Belmont Avenue in Hamilton to reports of a female being struck by a vehicle.

Police attended the location and witnessed a black 2006 Cadillac travelling northbound on Belmont Avenue. Police stopped the vehicle and witnessed an injured female in the backseat. Hamilton Paramedics attended the location and transported the female to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Through investigation police established the Cadillac was involved in the collision and the male driver currently operating the vehicle was the driver at the time of the accident. He was arrested for Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle.

While Police conducted an inventory of the vehicle, illicit drugs and an undisclosed amount of money were located. The vehicle was seized by police for further investigation.

A 44-year-old male was taken into Police custody and is scheduled to appear in court today. As police continue to investigate there is a potential for additional charges.

Hamilton Police are still looking for more witnesses and requesting people in the area to check their surveillance footage.
