Hamilton Man Arrested for Stealing After Police Track him Down

Hamilton Police arrested a local man after he used a cab to attend the stores and steal nearly $1000 worth of products. He appeared in court on Tuesday, May 14.

On Monday, May 13, 2019, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Hamilton Police officers attended the Fortinos Grocery store located at 65 Mall Road in response to a shoplifting incident. Information provided to police by witnesses included the actions of the male suspect who attempted to steal six cases of beer and several packages of high-end meat when he was confronted by the store’s Loss Prevention Officer. The suspect fled the scene in a taxi cab leaving the items behind valued at nearly $500.

The investigation into the incident continued and police were able to identify the male. It was then learned that during the cab ride the male had the driver make several stops including the LCBO located at 76 Mall Road. While at the LCBO, the male stole bottles of alcohol valued at $300.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2019, shortly after 7:30 a.m., police attended the suspect’s residence. He was arrested without incident and taken into police custody. The male appeared at the John Sopinka Courthouse later in the day to answer to several criminal charges.

The alcohol was not recovered.
