Hamilton Man Charged in Dispensary Robbery Involving Firearm

A 19-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested after discharging a firearm at an employee of an illegal marihuana dispensary in downtown Hamilton. He appeared in court on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, to answer to several firearm-related offences.

On Saturday, March 9, 2019, shortly after 8:30 p.m., police were made aware of an armed robbery at Cannabis Culture located at 275 King Street East. During the incident, a 35-year-old male victim was injured after being shot by one of the suspects. The three suspects fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.

Police arrived a short time later and located the victim at the rear of the business. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hamilton Police detectives have continued to investigate the robbery and identified one of the suspects.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, Prince Onyia was arrested without incident. He was taken into police custody and on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, appeared in court to answer to several criminal offences.

The investigation is ongoing as two suspects remain outstanding.
