Hamilton Man Safely Taken Into Custody After Possessing Firearm

30-year-old Jamison Doherty appeared in court yesterday in relation to a firearm incident that took place early Monday morning. Officers quickly responded to the scene and Doherty was taken into custody without injury to anyone.

On Monday, August 31, 2020, shortly after midnight, Hamilton Police received information about a male banging on a door at a residence in the area of Green Road and North Service Road. The male had left and shortly afterwards a resident of the home returned and after hearing about the incident, retrieved his firearm from inside and began pacing around his front yard. Officers quickly responded and the area was secured. Verbal attempts were made to peacefully resolve the matter, however; the resident failed to follow police instructions. He then entered his home and returned a short time later without his firearm. A physical altercation ensued and he was subdued after police deployed their conductive energy weapon.

The male was taken into police custody and his matter has been addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse where he faced several firearm-related charges.

Despite being legally registered to the male, the firearm was seized pending the outcome of the court proceedings.
