Hamilton Police Appeal for Witnesses to Early Morning Fire

Hamilton Police Service is appealing for witnesses to an early morning fire in Dundas.

On July 9, 2018, at approximately 3:45 a.m., Hamilton Fire and Hamilton Police Service were dispatched to a house fire at 8 Greening Court in Dundas.

Two individuals in their 60s were in the residence at the time. One male was able to escape the home and knock on a neighbour’s door for help. The female was unable to escape. She was rescued from the home by Hamilton Fire and pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition. Sadly, the male died as a result of his injuries late this afternoon.

The scene is being held by the Hamilton Police Service in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office. As no cause of the blaze has been determined, investigators are treating the fire as suspicious. This is expected to be a lengthy investigation due to the severe damage to the residence. At this time, there is no estimated damage amount.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
