Hamilton Police Arrest Barricaded Male

After lengthy negotiations, Hamilton Police have arrested a 16-year-old male who had barricaded himself inside a Stoney Creek Mountain residence. A 22-month-old female received injuries after allegedly being assaulted with a weapon by the male. She was transported to hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, shortly before 3:30 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to a 911 call at a residence in the area of Rymal Road East and Trinity Church Road. The preliminary information provided to police included injuries to a child under the age of two. Police attended the residence where they were met outside by a teenage female and two children. After confirming injuries to the child, the victim was transported to hospital for further treatment.

Through investigation, police learned a male related to the incident had barricaded himself inside the residence. Resources including Crisis Negotiators, Tactical, K-9 and Patrol Officers were called to the scene and secured the residence.

Rymal Road East from Trinity Church Road to Dakota Boulevard was closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

Hamilton Police contacted the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board and school administrators at Bishop Ryan Catholic School to advise of the situation. Police and administrators continued to work together as the school remained open during the course of the investigation.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., Tactical Officers forced entry into the residence and safely secured the 16-year-old male without incident. He was arrested and taken to hospital for further examination.

Police continued to search the residence and located the family dog deceased. Police believe the male is responsible for the dog’s death.

The injured child, a 22-month-old female, is currently in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
