Hamilton police are reminding the public to lock up their cars and houses after an increase in break and enters across Hamilton. The break and enters all share similar patterns.

From May to August 2018, approximately 66 Break and Enter incidents with similar patterns have occurred within the Hamilton area. All the entries took place in the early morning hours. In most cases, the suspects gained access to the home by obtaining the garage door opener from the homeowner’s unlocked vehicle on their driveway. The thieves then entered the house through the unlocked garage entry door, while the homeowners were asleep, taking any valuables in sight. In some cases, the suspects have stolen the car and later committed a fraud with the victim’s bank cards.

Police believe the suspects have targeted residences with Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus vehicles, as well as Dodge Ram and Ford F150 pickup trucks.

Hamilton Police Mountain Detectives have worked closely with other law enforcement agencies to arrest 12 individuals, males and females, 14 to 32-years-of-age from the Hamilton area. The investigation continues as there are still outstanding suspects that need to be brought to justice.

If you have any information that you believe could assist Police with the investigation into this crime you are asked to contact the Detective Sergeant of the Division 3 Criminal Investigations Branch at (905)546-3851.
