Hamilton Police Investigate City’s 18th Homicide

Hamilton Police are investigating the City’s 18th homicide after a male was killed earlier this morning on Barton Street.

On December 13, 2021, at approximately 4:10 a.m., police received a 911 call that a 22-year-old male had been intentionally struck by a motor vehicle in an apartment parking lot. First responders attempted life saving measures onsite but the male succumbed to his injuries. A 24-year-old male was arrested by responding officers at the scene.

The Major Crime Unit was immediately called in to investigate. After interviewing several witnesses and reviewing video evidence, 24-year-old Junaid Mohamed Nizami has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder. The victim and the accused were known to each other but the extent of their relationship is still under investigation as Detectives work through interviews. Police continue to investigate the motive.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim until family has a chance to notify next of kin.

There is a heavy police presence around 2520 Barton Street and police ask the public for patience as we conduct our investigation. Officers continue to canvass for witnesses and video.

Given that charges are now before the court, investigators are limited in the information that can be released moving forward.

If you have any information that you believe could assist Police with the investigation into this crime, you are asked to contact Detective Robert Di Ianni at 905-546-3836.
