Hamilton Police continue to investigate an assault that took place at Take Back the Night. 

On Thursday, September 21, 2023, at approximately 8:25 p.m., police were on site for the Take Back the Night march in the downtown core. Just as the march began, police were approached by multiple women stating that a male party had just assaulted one of the participants. The suspect had attempted to grab the victim’s sign and when he was unsuccessful, assaulted the victim. The suspect was arrested a short time later. 

A 29-year-old male has been charged with Assault Level 1.

A review of this case has been conducted by the Hamilton Police Hate Crime Unit and this occurrence was classified as a Hate Crime.
