Illegal Right Turn Leads to Drug Dealer Arrest

A Hamilton Police officer conducting proactive traffic enforcement stops van with a suspended driver in possession of multiple illicit drugs. A 39-year-old Hamilton man is scheduled to appear in court today to answer to several charges.

On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, a Hamilton Police officer set up traffic enforcement at the intersection of Upper Ottawa Street and Rymal Road East in response to red light turn violations. Shortly before 10:30 a.m., the officer observed a white Ford van commit an infraction. A traffic stop was attempted but the vehicle failed to immediately stop. As police followed the vehicle, two plastic bags were tossed from the driver’s side window. A short time later the vehicle came to a stop. The officer spoke with the driver who was unable to produce the appropriate driving documents. He then retrieved the plastic bags and examined their contents which were discovered to be illicit drugs. A further investigation into the driver’s identity revealed he was currently bound by two driver’s licence suspensions.

A 39-year-old Hamilton man was arrested and taken into police custody. He was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court today to answer to several charges.

The vehicle was removed from the scene by an associate of the driver.
