Male is Charged with Several Fraud Related Offences after a Routine Traffic Stop

Hamilton Police pulled over a 2005’ black Volvo with suspicious front plates attached to the vehicle. During the traffic stop police located several stolen credit cards and personal identification inside.

On June 24, 2018, shortly before 2:30 p.m., Hamilton Police were brought to the attention of an older style Volvo S40, exiting the parking lot at 1603 Main Street West, Hamilton. A routine traffic stop was conducted after police observed that the front plate had been altered. The driver was not able to provide proper vehicle or personal documentation. He was placed under arrest for, “use of plates not authorized”.

Police continued their investigation at the scene and located several stolen credit cards and personal identification.

The male has been charged with 62 criminal offences.

Christopher Clapp (43-years) Scarborough resident.

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fraud Under $5000
  • Several counts of Fail to Comply Probation
  • Several counts of Identity Theft
  • Possession of stolen property Under $5000

Clapp was held for a bail hearing and scheduled back to John Sopkina Courthouse on, July 3, 2018.
