Man Arrested After Throwing Lit Cigarette into Stroller

A 44-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with Assault with a Weapon after throwing a lit cigarette into the stroller of a 10-month-old infant.

On Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at approximately 12:32 p.m., police responded to the area of Barton Street East and Wellington Street North for an assault that had just occurred.

Upon arrival it was learned that a male walking by a mother and her child threw a lit cigarette into her stroller. The cigarette landed just below the child’s eye. The child was assessed on scene and released with minimal injuries.

The assault was unprovoked.

The victim and the accused are not known to one another.

The suspect fled on foot.

Police investigated, located and arrested a 44-year-old Hamilton man shortly after.
