Police Arrest Man for Unprovoked Assault

A 41-year-old man of no fixed address will appear in court today in relation to an assault investigation that sent a male to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, shortly after 10:00 p.m., the victim was standing at a bus shelter in the area of King Street West and Caroline Street North. At that time a male approached, engaged him in conversation and then assaulted him. Bystanders assisted the victim to a local establishment while the male followed, continuing the assault. The male was eventually chased away as the victim waited for medical assistance and police were notified.

The victim, a 43-year-old Hamilton man was later transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The male was located a short distance away and was arrested without incident. He was found to be in possession of a controlled substance – Methamphetamine. He was taken into police custody where it was learned he was bound by a probation order and his arrest signified several violations to the order. He was advised of the additional charges.

The male is scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse later today to answer to the several criminal charges.

Police do not believe the accused and victim had any contact prior to the incident.
