Police Catch Drug Dealer

Police arrest a Hamilton man for theft and discover he had several outstanding court matters related to drug trafficking and other serious offences. He will appear in court later today.

On Monday, April 29, 2019, shortly after 1;00 p.m., police were in the area of James Street North and King Street West when they were approached by a Loss Prevention Officer. He advised he had just witnessed a male commit at theft at the Rexall Drugstore located inside Jackson Square and was in pursuit of the male when he came across the police. He pointed out the suspect to police who instructed the male to stop. The male defied police and took off running and entered a taxi cab. Police continued to pursue the male and the taxi cab was safely stopped near the Go Station on Hunter Street. The male exited the cab but was quickly arrested for theft under $5000. A search of the male revealed he was in possession of the stolen property, two unopened boxes of cologne.

Through further Investigation of the male, police learned there were several outstanding warrants for his arrest along with the fact he was bound by other court orders. His arrest represented a violation of those existing court orders.

The male was taken into police custody where an additional search revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of illicit drugs believed to be crack cocaine.

The male is scheduled to appear in court today to answer to several charges related to this incident along with outstanding charges related to drug trafficking, assault police, mischief, forcible confinement, utter threats and violations to previous court orders.
