Project Day Break Tackles Spike in Property Crime
A Hamilton Police Service special project created to deal with a small spike in property crimes saw some impressive results when it concluded, with 21 arrests over a four-week period. Project Day Break, a city-wide project, was aimed at reducing property crime, including break and enters and thefts.
Hamilton Police officers were deployed from various units across the service. As a result, there were 21 arrests and 82 Criminal Charges, including 29 Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges. The following drugs were seized during the project:
- 207.6g Crystal Meth (7.5oz)
- 139g Coke (5oz)
- 75.5g Marihuana (2.5oz)
- 23.5g Magic Mushrooms (.85oz)
- 357 pills (various)
Six search warrants also resulted in the recovery of over $100,000 in stolen property and vehicles, $10,000 in cash, as well as 10 firearms and 7,600 rounds of ammunition. Five people were arrested on outstanding warrants during the project.
The Project ran from June 4 to June 30, 2018.
