Replica Firearm Seized During Early Morning Investigation of Trespassers

19-year-old James Wilson appeared in court on Sunday morning after police investigated a group of trespassers and he was found to be in possession of a loaded replica firearm.

On Sunday, August 4, 2019, shortly before 2:30 a.m., police observed three individuals loitering in the parking lot of Streetlight Christian Centre, located at 82 Ferguson Ave. The group was seen with cans of Sprite and a small open bottle of rum on the pavement. A male in the group moved a black backpack that was on the ground and it made the sound of glass clanging together. Police approached the group and through investigation determined the presence of additional alcohol and BB gun pellets. One male appeared to be very uneasy and acting suspiciously. As police continued the line of questioning, they learned the same male was in possession of a black handgun. Upon further review, the gun was proven to be a loaded replica handgun. The male was placed under arrest for carrying a concealed weapon. He was taken into police custody.

An investigation into the male’s identity revealed he was bound by two probation court orders and his arrest signified a direct violation to one of the orders for the possession of the weapon. He was advised of the additional charges related to the offences.

On Sunday, August 4, 2019, 19-year-old James Wilson appeared at the John Sopinka Courthouse to answer to the criminal charges.
