A male driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle. He was transported to hospital as a result of the collision. Two other passing motor vehicles suffered minor damage as the result of the felled hydro pole. There were no other reported injuries. 

Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate. The affected stretch of Wilson Street West was closed for several hours for the investigation.

On Saturday June 17 2023, at approximately 2:38 PM a southbound motorcycle collided with a northbound Acura at the intersection of Green Mountain Rd and Upper Centennial Pkwy in the City of Hamilton.

The 35 year-old male rider of the motorcycle, was transported to hospital in serious condition but later succumbed to his injuries. The 25 year-old female driver of the Acura remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The HPS Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.

On Sunday, October 23, 2022, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred on a farm located at Mountsberg Rd in the City of Hamilton. A 39-year-old male was found pinned under a tractor.

Emergency Services were able to free the male from underneath the tractor and he was transported to hospital with possible life-altering, but non-life threatening injuries.

A male driver was northbound on Sherman Avenue turning right onto Clinton Street when a four-year-old boy darted from the sidewalk and was struck as the vehicle passed. The four-year-old boy was transported to hospital and is currently in non-life threatening condition. 

Due to the nature of the injuries, the Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene and has taken carriage of the investigation.

Speed and/or impairment have been ruled out as factors in this collision.

Driver succumbs to injury from collision 

On Saturday June 11, 2022, at approximately 7:30pm a 61-year-old Hamilton man was operating a 2003 Nissan sedan southbound on York Boulevard just past the high-level bridge in the City of Hamilton.  He then entered the northbound lanes and into the path of a 2008 Jeep Liberty.  The front driver side of the Nissan vehicle struck the rear drivers side of the Jeep vehicle that was being operated by a 30-year-old Hamilton male.  The Jeep vehicle sustained significant damage and came to rest along the east curb. 

The Nissan vehicle began to rotate counter-clockwise into the path of a 2022 Mercedes-Benz motor vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old man from the United States.  The front passenger door of the Nissan vehicle was struck by the entire front end of the Mercedes-Benz vehicle.  Both vehicles came to rest along the east curb.

The driver of Jeep vehicle was seen by paramedics and declined to attend the hospital.  Medics also saw the four occupants of the Mercedes-Benz motor vehicle and two female rear passengers were transported to hospital with minor injury.

The driver of the Nissan vehicle was removed by Fire and pronounced dead on scene.  The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was called and carried on with the investigation.

Impairment and Speed have not yet been ruled out as factors involved in this collision.  The road was closed for the investigation for approximately 6 hours.

On Thursday, February 4, 2021, shortly before 7:30 p.m. Hamilton Police responded to Mount Albion Road just south of Greenhill Avenue for a collision.

The vehicle was traveling northbound on Mount Albion Road and the pedestrian was walking southbound in the northbound lanes of the road.

The pedestrian, a 31-year-old male from Hamilton was transported to hospital with serious life threatening injuries.

The driver, a 38-year-old Hamilton man remained on scene and is co-operating with investigators.

Due to the severity of the injuries to the pedestrian, the Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.

On Monday, December 21, 2020, shortly after 11:30 a.m., a 48-year-old Hamilton woman was crossing, with the right of way, in the marked crosswalk of James Street South at Young Street. At the same time, a 36-year-old Hamilton woman was making a left turn in her vehicle from Young Street with a green light and struck the pedestrian, knocking her to the ground.

The pedestrian was suffering from life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.

Hamilton Police are happy to announce the pedestrian has been released from the hospital and continues to recover from her injuries at home.

The driver was charged on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, with careless driving causing bodily harm. She is scheduled to appear in Court on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.

HPS would like to thank the witnesses who came forward and assisted with this investigation.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Hamilton Police and emergency service partners responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Centennial Parkway and South Service Road. Evidence gathered at the scene indicated the driver, a 32-year-old female from Brampton was operating her vehicle westbound on South Service Road when she lost control, left the roadway and collided with a light standard. Her 5-year-old daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Through continued investigation, detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit determined the passenger was not properly secured within the vehicle and the actions taken by the driver resulted in the collision.

The driver is now facing the following charges under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act:

• Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm
• Fail to Ensure Child Properly Secured

She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Vehicle speed has been ruled out as a factor in this collision.

The child continues to recover from her injuries.

On Saturday, January 9, 2021, shortly after 6:00 p.m., an 80-year-old Hamilton man was crossing without the right of way at a crosswalk at Main Street East and Tisdale Street South. At that time, he was struck by a Hyundai sedan that was travelling eastbound on Main Street. A 29-year-old Hamilton man was operating the vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and continues to cooperate with investigators.

The Hamilton Police Traffic Safety Unit & emergency service partners responded to the scene. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.

Hamilton Police need your help in identifying two males who were involved in a motor vehicle collision on James Street South in early November. If you have any information about the incident or can identify the males, please contact police.

On Thursday, November 5, 2020, shortly after 6:00 p.m., a 34-year-old Hamilton man was involved in a minor motor vehicle collision with a black Mercedes Benz sedan. The collision took place in the area of James Street South and Charlton Avenue. Both vehicles pulled off the roadway to exchange information. The driver and passenger of the Mercedes exited the vehicle and a conversation ensued between them and the victim. The victim took photos of the damage to both vehicles and the licence plate of the Mercedes. This upset the occupants of the Mercedes who assaulted the victim, chased him and then stole his phone.

The victim received minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Detectives have not been able to identify the males and are now seeking assistance from the public.

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, shortly before 11:00 a.m., a Hyundai SUV was travelling westbound on Cannon Street East approaching James Street North. At the same time, a GMC Sierra pick-up truck was travelling southbound on James Street. The vehicles collided in the intersection resulting in the GMC truck mounting the curb and striking a pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk waiting to cross. The truck came to rest against a Volkswagen Toureg, just south of the intersection.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 56-year-old Hamilton man and the driver of the GMC, a 34-year-old Niagara Falls woman were both transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The pedestrian, a 34-year-old Smithville woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the collision. Detectives have ruled out driver impairment but all other contributing factors including which vehicle had the right of way, are being considered at this time.

Hamilton Police need your help to identify a minivan that was involved in a late-night fail to remain collision with a pedestrian. 

On Monday, November 30, 2020, shortly after 11:30 p.m., a 20-year-old pedestrian was walking eastbound on Stone Church Road East. While crossing at Redmond Drive, a light coloured van struck the pedestrian, knocking her to the ground and continued northbound on Redmond Drive. The pedestrian walked to a nearby residence where Hamilton Paramedic Services was contacted. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday December 1, 2020, shortly after 3:20 p.m., a 28-year-old Hamilton man was driving a Dodge RAM pick-up truck southbound on Upper Gage Avenue at Royal Vista Drive.

At the same time, an 11-year-old male child was crossing Royal Vista Drive in the marked crosswalk, with the assistance of a crossing guard. The driver failed to stop for both the traffic light and the crossing guard and struck the child.

The child was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver has been arrested for Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm. His matter will be addressed at the John Sopkina Courthouse later today.

Police have ruled out driver impairment and all other contributing factors are being investigated at this time.

On Monday, November 16, 2020, shortly after 9:30 a.m., a dump truck pulling a trailer was travelling westbound on Stone Church Road East approaching Ardleigh Street. At that time a male pedestrian stepped into the lane in front of the truck’s path. The driver immediately attempted to stop his vehicle but ultimately made contact with the pedestrian. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police who had immediately responded.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit was activated and the intersection was closed for several hours as witnesses were interviewed and the scene processed. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Through continued investigation, driver impairment and error along with speed have been ruled out as contributing factors to the collision.

At this time, the pedestrian continues to receive medical treatment in hospital as his condition remains stable but critical.

On Tuesday, November 10, 2020, shortly after 10:00 a.m., a cyclist was operating his bicycle northbound on Centennial Parkway while attempting to make a left turn onto Barton Street. At the same time, a black Dodge Ram pick-up truck was travelling south on Centennial Parkway, through the intersection. The two vehicles collided resulting in the cyclist being dislodged from his bicycle.

The driver immediately pulled over and has been cooperating with police.

The cyclist, a 45-year-old Hamilton man was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment. His injuries are considered serious and he is in stable condition.

As a result of the level of injuries incurred by the cyclist, the Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision or anyone who has dash-cam footage and has yet to speak with police, to come forward.

Detectives have not ruled out any contributing factors to the collision.

On Friday, October 2, 2020, shortly before 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Police and Emergency Services partners responded for a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Upper James Street and Rymal Road. Once one scene, police learned a Honda Odyssey minivan was travelling southbound on Upper James at the same time a Ford Focus sedan was travelling northbound on the same roadway. The vehicles collided which resulted in the two occupants within the Focus being transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.

The 18-year-old male driver from Hamilton, who was operating the Odyssey did not require medical treatment. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Left Turn - Fail to Afford Opportunity to Avoid a Collision.

The 26-year-old male driver from Cambridge, who was operating the Focus continues to recover from his injuries.

On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, the Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit received notification advising the 23-year-old female passenger from Cambridge, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

As a result of the fatality, the Collison Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision or anyone who has dash-cam footage and has yet to speak with police, to come forward.

Out of respect for the family, police are not releasing the identity of the female at this time.

This is the city’s 12th traffic fatality for the year.

On September 21, 2020, shortly before 5:30 p.m., a 14-year-old female and her mother, both from the Oakville area, were riding their horses on a property situated along Millgrove Side Road. The experienced riders were riding on a path not familiar to them when the horse ridden by the 14-year-old became trapped in a marshy bog. The rider was able to dismount the horse and while waiting for help, she became submerged and a short time later she was pulled from the marsh without vital signs. The rider was transported to the hospital however, she succumbed to her injuries.

The identity of the rider is not being released.

On June 3, 2020, shortly before 10:00 p.m., a 19-year-old male was driving westbound on Airport Road in a 2016 Honda Civic with three passengers. The Honda entered the intersection and struck a 2011 Ford Escape driven by a 41-year-old male travelling northbound on Nebo Road. The occupants from both vehicles were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. One female passenger in the Honda succumbed to her injuries.

A joint investigation involving the Hamilton Police Service and the Niagara Regional Collision Reconstruction Unit initially resulted in criminal charges being laid against the driver of the Honda. Through continued investigation, the second driver in the collision has now been charged with alcohol-related offences.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, shortly before 2:00 a.m., a 32-year-old woman from Brampton was driving a black 2016 Mercedes-Benz sedan westbound on the South Service Road towards Centennial Parkway North in the City of Hamilton. The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to strike a traffic light pole in the centre median. Hamilton Police, Fire and Paramedics were called to the scene and the 5-year-old was transported to the hospital where it was determined that she had suffered a life-threatening injury. She currently remains in stable condition.

The investigation remains ongoing and vehicle speed has not been ruled out. At this time, police do believe impairment was not a contributing factor in this collision.

On Sunday, August 9, 2020, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a 53-year-old male from Scarborough was operating a large delivery vehicle eastbound on York Boulevard from Bay Street North. At the same time, a 57-year-old male pedestrian from Hamilton entered into the path of the vehicle and was struck. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and the driver of the commercial vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with police.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has concluded the investigation. Detectives have ruled out speed, alcohol and driver error as contributing factors to the collision.

The driver will not be facing any charges.

At the request of the family, Hamilton Police will not be releasing the name of the deceased.

The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving a single-motor vehicle that occurred shortly before 7:15 p.m. yesterday. A 23-year-old male from Cambridge was driving his vehicle eastbound on Concession 10 West when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver and his dog succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives from the Mountain Division Criminal Investigations Bureau have notified family members of the collision. Out of respect for the family’s request, Hamilton Police will not be releasing the name of the driver.

Driver Sufferers Fatal Injury

Hamilton Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle collision serious injury collision.

On Friday August 28th 2020, shortly before 4:20 p.m., a 44-year-old male from Stoney Creek was driving a dark blue 2006 BMW 4 door vehicle eastbound on the South Service Road from Centennial Parkway North in the City of Hamilton. The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to strike a hydro pole on the south side of the road. EMS, Fire and Police were called to the scene and the driver was pronounced dead.

Speed and Alcohol have not yet been ruled out as factors involved in the investigation.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, shortly after 8:30 a.m., Hamilton Police Service responded to a damaged, abandoned vehicle at the top of Claremont Access at Rosedene Avenue.

Once on scene police observed a white Chevrolet Cruze sedan with extensive front end damage.

Through continued investigation, police learned the vehicle was travelling southbound on the Claremont Access when it drifted and struck a rock face along the shoulder. The occupants then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The area was secured and the female passenger was located. Police determined the role of the female was not criminal and she was released unconditionally. The male driver was not located but his identity is known.

The abandoned vehicle was reported stolen to Hamilton Police on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. The registered owner was notified of the vehicle’s recovery.

Hamilton Police will be submitting an application for an arrest warrant for the male today. Efforts to locate and arrest the male driver continue.

On Monday, June 8, 2020, shortly after 5:00 a.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred on Upper James Street south of Alderlea Avenue involving a motor vehicle and a motorcycle. At the time, a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle was travelling south on Upper James Street when a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV travelling north on Upper James Street proceeded to make a left turn into a commercial driveway. These events resulted in a collision.

The motorcycle rider, a 46-year-old male from Waterford was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene and continues to investigate the collision. At this time detectives have ruled out alcohol, drugs and speed as contributing factors to the collision.

A joint forces investigation has resulted in the arrest of three men who attempted to purchase four firearms. Police seized a loaded handgun, fentanyl and cash.

In late May 2020, the OPP-led Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit commenced a joint firearms importation investigation with the US Department of Homeland Security -Homeland Security Investigations - and the Hamilton Police Service Gangs and Weapons Enforcement Unit. The purpose of the investigation was to target illegal firearm sales in the Hamilton Area.

On Friday, June 5, 2020, shortly before 11:30 a.m., members from the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit, the Hamilton Police Gangs and Weapons Enforcement Unit and Emergency Response Unit set up surveillance of the suspects at a commercial property near the intersection of Barton Street East and Kenilworth Avenue North. As the firearms deal unfolded, officers arrested the suspect who made the purchase. His accomplices, who were operating a motor vehicle in the immediate area observed the arrest and attempted to flee. Their vehicle engaged two police vehicles and came to rest on the front lawn of a residence near Vansitmart Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue North and the occupants were arrested. Police located inside the vehicle a loaded Glock handgun, cash and a small amount of fentanyl.

As a result of this investigation, three men were arrested and appeared in court on Saturday, June 6, 2020. They are facing several firearm-related and other criminal charges.

On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at 9:54 pm, two motor vehicles were involved in a collision at the intersection of Airport Road and Nebo Road, Hamilton. A 2016 Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old Hamilton man was travelling westbound on Airport Road approaching Nebo Road. At the same time, a 2011 Ford Escape driven by a 41-year-old Hamilton man was travelling northbound on Nebo Road when it was struck on its passenger side by the Honda.

Three of the four occupants in the Honda were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A 20-year-old female passenger in the Honda and from the Hamilton area suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The 41-year-old male driver of the Ford also from Hamilton was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police are not releasing any names at this time.

Due to the death of the Honda passenger, the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded and has now taken carriage of the investigation. Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call Detective Constable Jaimi Bannon at (905) 546-4753.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, shortly after 7:15 p.m., a motorcycle travelling upbound on the Jolley Cut collided with a Toyota Corolla in the downbound lanes. The rider, a 28-year-old male from Hamilton was operating a 2012 Honda motorcycle and the driver, a 63-year-old male was operating a 2009 Toyota Corolla. At the time of the collision, the motorcycle crossed into the downbound lanes.

Hamilton Police and emergency service partners immediately responded to the collision. The rider was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment. His condition is currently listed as serious with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries.

The Jolley Cut was closed for several hours as officers processed the scene.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this collision. At this time investigators have ruled out impairment and are still considering other contributing factors

On Saturday, May 16, 2020, shortly after 12:00 p.m., a motorcycle travelling southbound on Upper James Street collided with an SUV in the intersection of Upper James Street and Fennell Ave, Hamilton. The rider, a 25-year-old male from Hamilton was operating a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle and the driver, a 50-year-old male was operating a 2019 Cadillac Escalade SUV. At the time of the collision, the SUV had started to turn left to travel west on Fennell Ave.

Hamilton Police and emergency service partners immediately responded to the collision. The rider was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured in the collision.

The intersection was closed for several hours as officers processed the scene.

On Sunday, April 12, 2020, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Hamilton Police and Emergency Service partners attended 75 Centennial Parkway North, Hamilton for a single-vehicle collision. Initial information provided to police described a black 2018 Ford SUV travelling eastbound through the parking lot, striking the LCBO building. The driver, a 66-year-old man from Stoney Creek succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

With the information available at this time, police believe speed played a role in the collision. The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the possibility of other contributing factors.

On Saturday, December 28, 2019, shortly after 5:00 p.m., a motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Mohawk Road East at Upper Gage when it collided with two pedestrians who were crossing Mohawk Road beyond the intersection. Through continued investigation by detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit, a 54-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, March 5, 2020, to answer to the charges.

The 89-year-old female pedestrian continues to slowly recover from her injuries.

Through investigation, police have determined the deceased was laying on the road moments before the collision.

Additionally, police have identified two vehicles which were travelling northbound on Upper Wellington Street seconds before the collision. The vehicles, a light-coloured four door sedan and a second light-coloured four door sedan with dark tinted rear windows would have crossed paths with the suspect vehicle.

Police are appealing to the drivers of those vehicles, along with the operator of the suspect vehicle to come forward.

Anyone who was in the area of Upper Wellington and Inverness on Sunday morning shortly before 12: 30 a.m. is asked to check their dashcams and contact police.

On Sunday, December 29, 2019, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of MacNab and Barton Street East for a fail to remain collision between a cyclist and a white pick-up truck. The cyclist was transported to the hospital with serious injuries while the suspect vehicle fled.

A public appeal was issued which resulted in the Collision Reconstruction Office receiving several tips. These tips led police to the location of the suspect vehicle and the inevitable identification of the suspect driver.

On Monday, January 6, 2020, Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Detectives arrested a 37-year-old Flamborough man in relation the fail to remain collision. He is scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, to answer to several charges.

Hamilton Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation as the information provided directly led to the successful conclusion.

The cyclist is expected to make a complete recovery.

On Sunday, December 29, 2019, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of MacNab and Barton Street East for a fail to remain collision. Through investigation, police believe a 57-year-old Hamilton man was struck by a vehicle as he crossed the roadway on his bicycle at Barton and MacNab. The vehicle involved continued eastbound on Barton St. and then south on James St. fleeing the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a white pick-up truck.

The Hamilton Police continues to investigate the incident and is appealing for witnesses to come forward and for residents in the area to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity.

On Saturday, December 23, 2019, shortly 12:38 a.m., a 38 year-old-man from Flamborough was riding his ATV eastbound on Mountsberg Road between Highway 6 and Centre Road in Flamborough. The rider lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll onto its side. As a result of the rider not wearing a helmet, he suffered life-threatening injuries to his head after falling to the roadway. Emergency Service Responders attended the scene and transported the driver to the hospital.

There is no further information at this time, alcohol and speed may have been a factor, the investigation is continuing.

On Saturday, November 23, 2019, 73-year-old Daniel Wilson attended the Hamilton Police East End Station located at 2837 King Street East Hamilton, where he surrendered to police. He appeared in court on Sunday, November 24, 2019, to face charges related to a fail to remain collision that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old pedestrian.

The vehicle involved in the incident has been seized by police as the investigation continues.

The head-on collision resulted in the death of the female driver of the Honda and minor injuries to the male driver of the GMC.
