Hamilton Man Arrested on Firearms Charges

Hamilton Police arrested a 27 year-old man for firearm-related charges over the weekend.

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, Hamilton Police responded to reports of a male inside a dwelling on Somerset Avenue in possession of a firearm.

After a short interaction with police, the male exited the dwelling. A loaded firearm was recovered in the suspect’s vehicle.

The male is facing the following charges:

· Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

· Possession of a Prohibited Loaded Firearm

· Unsafe Storage

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Scott Shewfelt of Dunnville was arrested and charged with the following offences:

·         Sexual Assault

·         Sexual Exploitation

Scott Shewfelt will appear in court on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

It is confirmed Scott Shewfelt is a Youth Worker, Hamilton Police believe that there may be more victims and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, three businesses in the Waterdown area were targeted in a string of break and enter incidents. Hamilton Police’s Break, Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Unit took identified two males involved in these crimes.

During an attempt to arrest one of the suspects on Monday, September 9, 2024, a 25-year-old male rammed a marked police vehicle while fleeing from a traffic stop. He was located and arrested, alongside a second male, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 by members of the Hamilton Fugitive Apprehension Unit.

Jacob Benford (25 years-of-age from Hamilton) faces the following charges:

On Friday, September 6, 2024, 23-year-old Justin Hicks of Welland was arrested in Hamilton and charged with multiple offenses, including:

• Eight Counts Possession of Burglary Tools
• Possession Over $5,000 – Motor Vehicle

During the investigation, three search warrants were executed, leading to the recovery of numerous stolen items from local businesses. Investigators also located five stolen vehicles, including three pickup trucks and two high-end automobiles.

The Hamilton Police Service continues to collaborate with neighbouring police agencies, and further charges are anticipated.

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, members of the High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) were conducting a search in the area of Augusta Street and John Street South to which they located and arrested the 34-year-old Hamilton woman. 

Thanks to timely tips from our community she was arrested without incident.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, shortly after 2:30 a.m., officers patrolling the area near Wentworth Street South and Main Street East observed suspicious activity surrounding a vehicle. Several individuals were gathered around the vehicle, prompting further investigation.

During investigation into of the 36-year-old female driver’s licence, officers detected a strong smell of cannabis from inside the vehicle. At this time, the male passenger began reaching for his waistband continuously. The male passenger abruptly exited the vehicle and fled on foot, continuing to reach for his waistband while discarding items along his path.

Officers pursued and arrested the 26-year-old male from Fenwick. A loaded firearm, along with various illict drugs, including suspected cocaine, over 6 grams of fentanyl, cannabis, and methamphetamine, were seized . The female driver, a Hamilton resident, was also arrested.

On the evening of Sunday, September 1, 2024, shortly before 6:00 p.m., a shooting occurred in the area, prompting an immediate investigation. On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, members of the Emergency Response Unit located the suspect at a downtown location. The suspect was arrested without incident.

The individual arrested is a youth and cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They remain in custody pending a bail hearing and are facing multiple charges, including:

4. Assault with a Weapon

On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Hamilton Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 111 Herkimer Street in Hamilton. Upon arrival, police located the deceased, Tito Kelly. Through investigation, police believe this was an isolated incident involving a drug transaction where both sides exchanged gunfire.

His arrest today marks a significant step forward in this investigation.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024 a 14-year-old female and a 15-year-old female were approached by the male driver of a white motor vehicle. The driver pulled up alongside the youth, attempted to engage them in conversation, and asked them to get in his car. The youth obtained the licence plate of the vehicle and called 911.

Police responded promptly and were able to locate and arrest the suspect a short time later. The male was charged with two counts of Criminal Harassment. His bail was opposed, and he remains in custody.

Hamilton Police urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety and the role of community awareness in preventing crime. On October 3, 2023, Hamilton Police responded to reports of shots fired at 111 Herkimer Street in Hamilton. Upon arrival, officers located Tito Kelly, who was deceased. Investigators believe this incident resulted from a drug transaction that led to both sides exchanging gunfire.

A second male, whose name will not be released at this time, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and received treatment at a hospital.

Police have arrested thirty-six-year-old Brampton resident, Donte Smith, for manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing as officers believe at least one other parties was involved. Smith remains in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for July 11.

During this ongoing attempted murder investigation, police located evidence of a conspiracy to murder a person unrelated to the initial shooting.   On April 4, 2024, members of the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit arrested Kamaldeep Dhaliwal of Hamilton and charged him with Conspiracy to Commit Murder. 

From further investigation into this matter, a second person involved in this conspiracy to commit murder was identified as 27-year-old Michael Francis of Niagara Falls.  Michael Francis appeared in court on Friday, June 28, 2024 charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder.

This investigation is ongoing with efforts to identify the other co-conspirators in this plot to commit murder.  The number of co-conspirators and the nature of the evidence leading to this arrest will not be disclosed at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Yesterday afternoon, the Hamilton Police Central High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) was in the area of an encampment on Wellington Street South and Hunter Street East when they observed two youths approach. One youth went inside a tent for a short period while the other stood watch outside. The youths then proceeded to another encampment in the area of East Avenue South and Hunter Street East – Bishop’s Park. Again, one youth entered a tent while the other kept watch outside.

The youths then moved to the area of Ferguson Station, where they met up with a third youth. While seated on a bench at Ferguson Station, the youth who had been entering tents took out a digital scale and placed it on the bench beside him. Shortly thereafter, he weighed some substance, and police observed a hand-to-hand drug transaction. 

All three youths were arrested after the third drug transaction was observed. One youth was found to be in possession of 2.35g of fentanyl, 19 hydromorphone pills, and $74.30 in Canadian Currency. He appeared in court today.

The seized illicit drugs are valued on the street to be over $600.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate a shooting that occurred in the area of King Street East and East Avenue North last week and are asking for the public's help in locating an outstanding suspect.

On Monday, May 6, 2024, a shooting occurred in the area of King Street East and East Avenue North in Hamilton. During the incident, a bystander, a man in his 50s, was grazed by a stray bullet. He was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

The Hamilton Police Service Shooting Response Team has continued to investigate the incident. As a result, they are now seeking one outstanding suspect in connection with the shooting.

A warrant has been issued for Jonas Campanaro, a 21-year-old Hamilton man, on the following charges:

• Discharge Firearm with Intent
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm – Loaded
• Reckless Discharge of a Firearm

Patrick Swayze, a 34-year-old Hamilton man, was arrested today on an outstanding warrant related to this incident. He faces the following charges:

• Assault with a Weapon
• Three Counts of Fail to Comply with Probation
• Eight Counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order
• Two Counts of Operation while Prohibited
• Point Firearm
• Use Imitation Firearm During Commission of Offence
• Three Counts of Possession Contrary to Order

During the arrest, officers recovered a firearm, which has been confirmed to be the same one used in this incident and displayed in the video footage released to the public. Swayze will also face additional charges based on today's arrest; however, the investigation remains ongoing.

Hamilton Police Investigated a Fail to Remain Motor Vehicle Collision

At 7:18 am, the Hamilton Police responded to a fail to remain collision that occurred at Upper Ottawa and Rymal Road in which two suspects were observed fleeing the scene on foot. Officers were quick to respond to the area, locate and apprehend two males closely matching the description. Investigation led to identifying both males as, Barry White and Di yar Abdulrafar Majid, who were wanted by Police on outstanding arrest warrants.

Barry White was wanted in several investigations with charges that included a break and enter that occurred to a residence near Wilson Street, West, and Orchard Drive, in Ancaster, on March 11, 2024. During this entry the resident’s vehicle was stolen. In addition, he is facing other charges in relation to other stolen vehicles and several counts of failing to comply with a court order. Di yar Abdulrafar Majid’s outstanding warrant was in relation to the possession of a stolen vehicle.

Both males were brought before the court for a bail hearing today on their outstanding criminal warrants. Barry White was remanded into custody while Di yar Abdulrafar Majid was released with a future court date.

The collision involved a single motor vehicle. The vehicle collided with a traffic light pole resulting in the pole being completely severed. City officials responded to make repairs. Police are still investigating this collision.

Trevor Tyler Linklater, a 35-year-old male from Hamilton, has been charged with multiple drug trafficking and firearm offenses, including:

·        Possession For The Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

·        Possession For The Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Ten Counts of Possession Contrary to Order

·        Two Counts of Fail to Comply with Probation

He has been remanded to custody pending a future bail hearing.

Kayla Shawnte Duvall, a 31-year-old female from Hamilton, faces charges related to drug trafficking:

·        Possession For The Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

·        Possession For The Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

She has been released and is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.

On Thursday evening, police executed two search warrants in Hamilton in relation to the investigation.    Michael Castiglione, a 36 year old man from Hamilton, has been charged with second degree murder.      

Police are not seeking additional suspects or involved vehicles and believe the incident was isolated, as the deceased and the accused, were known to each other.

He is facing several charges:

Ahmed's charges stem from an ongoing investigation into a targeted shooting that occurred on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Beach Boulevard and Wickham Avenue in Hamilton.

The investigation remains active, with efforts underway to identify any additional individuals involved.

As the investigation progresses, specific details regarding the evidence leading to Ahmed's arrest cannot be disclosed.

On Thursday, February 15, 2024, Hamilton Police executed three search warrants at dispensaries in the East End of Hamilton – Shroomyz, Fun Guys, and Shroom Godz. The operators were arrested without incident, marking a significant step in curbing the illegal distribution of Psilocybin products.

The execution of the search warrants resulted in the seizure of over $100,000 worth of illicit Psilocybin products. The Hamilton Police Service emphasizes that the possession, distribution, and sale of Psilocybin remains illegal in Canada, and these recent arrests underscore our commitment to enforcing this within our city.

On Thursday, February 15, 2024 shortly after 3:00 p.m. Hamilton Police arrested a man following a flight and he now faces charges of 

·         Common Nuisance - Endanger Life

·         Cause Disturbance

·         Assault in Aircraft in Flight

The male continued to make threats to flight staff, creating a disruptive and unsafe environment for staff and passengers. The disturbance, stemming from alcohol-related issues and a desire for a cigarette in flight, prompted multiple passengers to intervene and assist the on-flight staff.

Officers gathered evidence and statements from those reporting the incident, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the situation. Despite the unsettling circumstances, all passengers remained safe, and no one on the flight required medical treatment.

The 54-year-old will appear in court for a bail hearing this morning.

The collaborative efforts of airline staff, passengers, and Hamilton Police were instrumental in bringing this incident to a swift and safe conclusion.

With all the alternatives and communication surrounding the topic of impaired driving, the issue persists as a significant concern on our roadways.

No arrests for impaired driving occurred on Super Bowl Sunday. However, Hamilton Police did arrest ten individuals for impaired driving over the weekend, with eight impaired by alcohol and two impaired by drug.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, Hamilton Police were called to a fast food restaurant in the area of Upper James Street and Fennell Avenue. Police responded to an incident where a 30-year-old male customer grew irate at the drive-thru window upon discovering that the restaurant had run out of rice for the burrito he had ordered.

The 30-year-old opted to park his vehicle and enter the restaurant to express his concerns. As the staff encountered difficulty in persuading the customer to leave, they called the police for assistance. During the police interaction with the customer, it was discovered that the irate individual was impaired.

30-year-old Hamilton man was subsequently arrested and charged with the following;

• Operation While Impaired (Alcohol)
• Resist Arrest
• Failure to comply with Demand

From mid-December 2023 to the present, a bold suspect targeted these establishments, using a rock to shatter windows and gain illicit access. In response, Hamilton Police swiftly launched a comprehensive investigation, leading to an arrest.

Our officers' diligent efforts have successfully identified a suspect linked to at least 16 of these brazen break-ins, bringing a sense of relief to affected businesses and the community at large.

On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the Break and Enter Unit executed a search warrant in the Ancaster, culminating in the arrest of Joey Robert Hudson, a 44-year-old male.

Joey Hudson now faces multiple charges, including:

·       16 Counts of Break and Enter Commit

·       16 Counts of Disguise with Intent

·       16 Counts of Disobey Court Order

·       16 Counts of Failing to Comply with Probation

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m. Hamilton Police responded to a reported theft at a commercial establishment in Jackson Square, where a suspect was allegedly seen carrying a firearm. Following a search, police arrested the suspect at the intersection of Main Street and Hughson Street. Upon conducting a search, police confirmed the firearm was a pellet gun.

Hamilton Police have arrested 25-year-old, Nickolas Renato Reda for the following charges;

• Carrying Concealed Weapon
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Theft under $5000
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000
• Two Counts of Fail to Comply Probation

Nickolas Renato Reda had his bail opposed and will be attending court.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a motel near King Street East and Wentworth Street in response to reports of an individual struck in the face with a firearm. Police searched and located a male fitting the suspect's description walking near King Street and Emerald Street. The officers executed a gunpoint arrest.  Subsequent to the arrest, a search revealed a pellet gun and a butterfly knife in the suspect’s possession.

Hamilton Police have arrested 37-year-old, Christopher Macleod for the following charges;

• Possession of Prohibited Weapon
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Fail to Comply Probation
• Two counts of Contrary to Order

Christopher Macleod had his bail opposed and will be attending court.

When responding to weapons calls, police must treat the situation as if lethal weapons are involved until a thorough investigation determines otherwise. Unfortunately, visually differentiating between real firearms and replicas is often impossible until the investigation is completed. Hamilton Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in relation to the murder of Tyler Hayden Robitaille.

On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m. Hamilton Police responded to reports of a man bleeding and unconscious in the area of MacNab Street near Jackson Street. The victim was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Hamilton Police have arrested, Tyler Barberstock, 35-year-old man of Hamilton for Second Degree Murder charges.

Thanks to the vigilant actions of a conscientious citizen, Hamilton Police have successfully arrested two males and removed a loaded firearm, ammunition, and illicit drugs from our city streets. On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, just after 10:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a call in the area of Mountain Avenue North and Jones Street following a concerned citizen's alert. The citizen reported observing two males walking south on Mountain Avenue, with one of them appearing to be in possession of a firearm.

Promptly responding to the call, officers conducted a thorough search of the area, resulting in the arrest of a 17-year-old male and a 19-year-old male.

Upon searching the 17-year-old,  police discovered a loaded Glock handgun equipped with a full auto switch, an extended magazine carrying 28 rounds of ammunition, $1500 in Canadian Currency, and  500 grams of Fentanyl.

Charges for the 17-year-old male from Toronto include:

• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Possession for the Purpose of Schedule 1-Fentanyl
• Two Counts of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
• Proceeds of Crime Under $5000
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm (Loaded)
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

The 19-year-old male from Hamilton faces the following charges:

• Fail to Comply with Youth Sentence
• Disobey Court Order

On the morning of Wednesday, November 29, 2023, just before 11:00 a.m., Hamilton Police received information indicating the presence of a male, potentially armed, on the premises of Bernie Custis Public Secondary School. While responding to the call for service, additional information revealed that the individual had entered a vehicle, which subsequently left the area. The vehicle was immediately located at a nearby gas station with five occupants, all of whom were apprehended due to the initial suspicion of a firearm. However, no firearm was found in the vehicle, and further details indicated that the weapon had been left in the school within a bag.

In the interest of safety, Bernie Custis Public Secondary School, the recreation center, and Jimmy Thompson Pool were placed under lockdown for several hours as the police conducted a thorough search. Fortunately, everyone remained safe during this process.

The 15-year-old male, identified as a student of Bernie Custis Public Secondary School, is now facing the following charges:

On the morning of Monday, November 27, Hamilton Police responded to reports of a stabbing in the area of Park Avenue North and York Boulevard, arriving at the scene shortly after 8:30 a.m. 

Following police response to the incident,  Nathan Kanis-Lynch, a 25-year-old individual, was subsequently arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of a 52-year-old man from Hamilton. Mr. Kanis-Lynch remains in custody.

On Thursday, November 23, 2023, 34-year-old Daniel Picone of Hamilton was arrested and charged with the following offences:

On Thursday, November 9, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., four masked individuals entered KC convenience on Parkdale Avenue North wielding a knife, and made demands upon the business owner. After a failed attempt, the suspects fled in a stolen white Honda van. After calling police this engaged business owner quickly thought to use his group chat with other business owners in the area to alert them to what had just happened. A short time later the same four suspects who were still masked arrived at the Big Bee convenience which is located on Barton Street East however the employee had been alerted to the robbery attempt in the area, saw the masked individuals and secured the door before entry was made. The suspects fled the area and attended the Wholesale Club. In the parking lot of the Wholesale Club located on Barton Street East the suspects approached an individual and attempted to rob them of their vehicle. The suspects were unsuccessful and continued to flee in the white Honda van. The fleeing van then stuck another vehicle in the intersection of Nash Road North and Barton Street East. The four suspects fled the collision and were quickly located and arrested by our officers.

On Monday, October 30, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Hamilton officers were patrolling the area of King Street East and East Avenue North in response to ongoing community complaints.

While patrolling the area, officers encountered an individual in an alleyway with conditions to stay out of the area. The individual attempted to flee on foot when approached by the officers, resulting in a brief struggle and subsequent arrest.

In a search incident to arrest, police located a loaded Glock 19 firearm, a box of 9mm ammunition, two pieces of crack cocaine, and a quantity of cash in the accused’s possession.

Hamilton Police have arrested  a 38-year-old man, Tim Junior Miller for the following charges;

This effort has resulted in a significant number of arrests, the seizure of various weapons, including firearms, the recovery of stolen property, and illicit drugs. These arrests encompassed individuals wanted for property and victim-related offenses, as well as weapon offenses and violations of previous judicial releases.

In April of 2022, Hamilton Police initiated Project KORA (Keeping Offenders Responsible and Accountable), a comprehensive initiative that involved multiple units from within our service. The primary objective of this project was to hold individuals committing offenses accountable and reduce the number of wanted individuals in our community.

Throughout this project our dedicated officers, hailing from various units within the service, invested considerable time and employed their investigative skills to locate and apprehend these outstanding offenders, ensuring they were held accountable for their actions. The officers pursued leads relentlessly and followed up on information regarding the whereabouts of the offenders until they were brought into custody.

In addition to the charges related to the wanted individuals, 295 further charges have been filed with the courts.

A substantial quantity of illicit drugs were seized, including 272 grams of Fentanyl, 5.5 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of cocaine, and illegal oxycodone pills. Additionally, investigators recovered various weapons, such as brass knuckles, hatchets, knives, pellet guns, a crossbow, throwing stars, a taser, and five firearms.

Further, over $4,800 in Canadian currency was seized as proceeds of crime.

On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 7:00 a.m. officers observed a victim run towards them during general patrol. The victim reported being robbed in Woodlands Park, located at 501 Barton Street East in Hamilton. The victim, suffered injuries during the incident and came forward to report the crime.

Upon investigation, it has been determined that the incident occurred within a tent situated within the park, escalating into a confrontation where the victim endured threats and was subsequently robbed by the suspect.

The suspect, a 28-year-old man, was promptly identified and arrested within the park. Additionally, a black handgun-style pellet gun was located during the arrest.

Joshua Pilgram is charged with Robbery, Utter Threats, and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

On March 2, 2020, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Giorgio Barresi returned to his residence on Portofino Place in Stoney Creek. He was confronted in his driveway by a single suspect and was shot multiple times. Giorgio succumbed to his injuries almost immediately.

The suspect attended the area in a four-door sedan parked by the intersection of Portofino Place and Lido Drive. It is believed that at least one other individual remained with the suspect vehicle during the incident. The suspect walked back to the vehicle after the shooting, which then fled south on Lido Drive.

Initial information showed historical ties between Giorgio Barresi and the Musitano traditional organized crime group. This investigation involved over 50 Judicial Authorizations and was part of Project Skyfall through 2020-2021. 

On September 1, 2023, after an intensive investigation, the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit laid first-degree murder charges on two Toronto individuals.

• Jamal Chemin, 41-years-old from Toronto
• Sorossa Moude, 27-years-old from Toronto

Although investigators believe these two individuals are involved in this homicide, police continue to urge anyone with additional information to come forward to speak with police.

“George, we think of you and your final moments every single day. We take comfort that charges have now been laid in George’s death,” says family spokesperson Roberto Bucciarelli. The family has requested privacy.

On Saturday, July 15, 2023, shortly before 12:00 p.m. Hamilton Police responded to Woodlands Park after receiving information about a stabbing in the tented area of the park. Upon arrival, officers located a 37-year-old male victim without vital signs. The male was transported to hospital however is no longer in hospital.

Through the dedication and investigative work, officers were able to identify and arrest a suspect in connection with the attack.

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, shortly before 9:00 p.m. officers observed the suspect exit a vehicle in the area of Sanford Avenue North and Cannon Street East, officers quickly identified and arrested 62-year-old Mark Ribson for Aggravated Assault.

During the evening hours of Saturday, June 24, 2023 into the early morning hours of Sunday, June 25, 2023, police received reports of several commercial entries into businesses the Waterdown area along Dundas Street East (Highway 5) between Hamilton Street and Highway 6, Flamborough. Two suspects were pictured and positively identified by police. Investigators linked one of the suspects to a series of similar style entries from July and August of this year that took place throughout our city.

On Friday, August 18, 2023 at 1:00 a.m. one of the pictured suspects entered a commercial establishment, police were alerted, attended and arrested Paul ST. PIERRE.

St.PIERRE is charged with:

·         Eight Counts Break and Enter Commit – Theft

·         Two Counts Break and Enter with Intent

·         Two Counts Attempt Break & Enter

·         Two Counts Disguise with Intent

·         Two Counts Theft Under $5,000.00

·         Two Counts Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.00

·         Possession Burglary Tools

At the time of these offences, ST. PIERRE was Wanted on a Canada Wide Parole Revocation Warrant. He has been before the courts and his bail was opposed.

A 43-year-old female from Hamilton was also charged for her role in the entry on Friday, August 18, 2023 with Break & Enter Commit – Theft and will appear in court on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

On Monday, August 14, 2023, shortly after 08:30 p.m. a loud exhaust on a blue BMW travelling in the area of Wentworth Street and Main Street caught the attention of a Hamilton officer.

A traffic stop was conducted and through investigation police located 0.64 grams of crack cocaine and 24 grams of crystal meth.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, a vehicle was reported stolen from the  area of Paris Ontario and was later located near Limeridge Mall in Hamilton. Hamilton Police officers responded to the stolen auto however the vehicle proceeded to strike a marked police cruiser before fleeing from police. A short time later the vehicle was located in another part of Hamilton abandon.

On Monday, June 19, 2023, Cody Atkinson, a 22-year-old male from Hamilton, was arrested and is charged with the following:

·         Vehicle Theft

·         Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

·         Possession, Use, Traffic Credit Card

·         Fail to Comply Probation

During the course of this investigation, our detectives were faced with challenging circumstances. In the City’s East End our detectives located a stolen vehicle and one of the suspects continued to ram police vehicles and pointed a firearm at police. The firearm was later deemed to be a replica firearm not capable of discharging ammunition however appeared authentic. Detectives were able to safety arrest the occupants of this stolen vehicle and no one was injured.

On Thursday, July 6, 2023, shortly before 5:00 p.m., a lone male suspect entered a bank in the area of Barton Street East and Kenilworth Avenue North during operating hours. Once in the bank, the male walked to a teller, passing a note demanding money and stating that he had a gun. The suspect was provided a quantity of cash and left on foot.

Hamilton Police responded to reports of the robbery and located the suspect in the area of Graham Avenue and Main Street East. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested the male suspect.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in relation to the murder of Everton Frost.

On Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 8:12 p.m., Hamilton Police and Hamilton Paramedic Service responded to reports of a shooting on Morris Avenue. Police and Paramedics arrived on scene to find the victim, 23-year-old, Everton Frost, in the middle of the roadway with gunshot wounds. Everton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hamilton Police have arrested, Salomon Bashir, a 20-year-old man of Hamilton for First Degree Murder charges and will appear in court today.

47-year-old Ogaga OWHAROSIGHE, currently from Hamilton, is charged with one count of Sexual Assault.

At the time of the offence, OWHAROSIGHE was employed as a Personal Support Worker (PSW).

On Saturday, June 3, 2023, shortly before 7:00p.m. Hamilton Police responded to the area of Centennial Parkway and Neil Avenue for reports of an individual with a firearm. A citizen was walking his dog in the area, when a male exited a residence, began yelling and pointed a firearm at the victim. The citizen called police.

Police immediately set up a perimeter in the area, located the suspect and became involved in a foot pursuit, where the male suspect ran into a commercial business. Police affected the arrest and located a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun.

The accused, Devan Frank Butler, a 21-year-old man of Hamilton, has been charged with the following offences;

Since the beginning of the year, Hamilton Police have seized 80 crime guns, this is a 45 % increase year to date from 2022.

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, shortly before 7:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to the area of Charlton Avenue West and Bay Street South for a report of a male with a firearm.

Police attended the area and received information that two males exited a cab, pointed a firearm and then entered a residence in the area.

During the investigation police located the males and seized the firearm. As a result two male youths were charged.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for arson to a multi-unit apartment that occurred in February this year.

On Friday, February 10, 2023, at approximately 5:40 a.m., Hamilton Police and emergency partners responded to a multi-unit apartment fire at 40 Oxford St in Hamilton.

Through investigation, it was learned that an unknown male attempted to set fire with an incendiary device to the apartment building that houses over 197 units.    

A suspect was captured on video using a propane tank and blowtorch attachment to attack the utility room and set a fire. 

With the assistance of the public, Hamilton Police have arrested a 36-year-old man, Christopher Michael Norton for the following charges;

• Arson - Disregard for Human Life
• Possession Incendiary Material
• Mischief under $ 5,000 (Damaging Property)

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, shortly after midnight, Hamilton Police responded to the area of Crockett Street and East 34^th Street after receiving calls for shots fired.

Police located evidence consistent with that of a shooting and entered into an investigation.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, Hamilton Police arrested the alleged gunman, Joseph Soules.

Vehicle and residential search warrants were executed on the west mountain and investigators located a loaded prohibited firearm and a quantity of illicit drugs which have an estimated street value of over $100,000.

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023 shortly before 1:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to the area of Sanford Avenue North and King Street East for a shooting that had just occurred.

Upon arrival police confirmed that a shooting incident took place and located two people suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to hospital and have since been released.

Investigators worked to gather information and arrested Wisler Sebastian Rosima shortly after 6:00 p.m. last night.

Investigators are not looking for any outstanding suspects at this time. Investigators confirm that this was a targeted incident.

The accused is facing the following charges:

·         Discharge Firearm with Intent

·         Two Counts of Aggravated Assault

·         Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

·         Possession of a Firearm knowing Possession is Unauthorized

·         Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

·         Six Counts of Disobey Court Order

The accused appeared in court this morning and remains in custody.

Hamilton Police were called to the intersection of Barton Street West and MacNab Street North shortly after 9:00 p.m. on the evening of Tuesday, April 25, 2023. As a result of this collision two individuals were transported to hospital in critical condition. A 73-year-old man was later pronounced deceased in hospital.

On Monday, May 1, 2023, at approximately 11:40 p.m., a female was exiting a city bus in the area of Mud Street West and Paramount Drive when an unknown male followed her off the bus.

The suspect continued to follow the victim towards a nearby trail where he sexually assaulted the victim.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2023 shortly after 9:00 p.m. Hamilton Police received several 911 calls from citizens who reportedly observed erratic driving of a motor vehicle.

Hamilton Police entered into the investigation and conducted a tactical vehicle intervention on the vehicle in question resulting in the safe arrest of a 63-year-old man.
