Police are still looking to arrest 27-year-old Jason Anthony Long on charges of Attempted Murder and Robbery in relation to an incident at 646 Main Street East on the evening of February 10, 2021.

The 30-year-old victim is still on life support and his prognosis is not favourable. Decisions are to be made on whether medical intervention will be withdrawn. Should the victim succumb to his injuries the current charges against 33-year-old Madelene Peternel will be upgraded to First Degree Murder, and the charges on the arrest warrant for Jason Long will also be amended.

Investigators are continuing to review hundreds of hours of CCTV footage from around the crime scene and are awaiting forensic results as they work towards identifying the third suspect.

The victim’s previously reported stolen Acura was recovered on February 12, 2021, in the area of King Street East and Connaught Ave.

Anyone who is knowingly assisting Jason Long to evade his arrest will face charges of Accessory After the Fact.

Today, homicide detectives from the Hamilton Police Service Major Crime Unit charged 38-year-old Keith Overholt with the 1st-degree murder of Andrew Ainscow and attempted murder of a 39-year-old male from the City of Hamilton. Overholt is expected to be arraigned on these new charges when he appears in court on November 19, 2020, at the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton.

These charges will be in addition to the attempted murder charge laid on Overholt for the attack on a 46-year-old female which occurred on November 9 at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Queen St. and York St. in the City of Hamilton.

Police have found no connection to Overholt and the victims. Investigators allege these victims were randomly attacked by Overholt.

Investigators believe the murder of Ainscow occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. on November 10 and the attempted murder occurred at the intersection of MacNab and Bold St. at approximately 1:25 a.m. Overholt was arrested by Hamilton Police at approximately 1:30 a.m. after responding to the earlier incident at MacNab and Bold.

Investigators are now satisfied that they are in possession of a knife believed to be the murder weapon. No other suspects are being sought in this case.

These matters are now before the courts and Police cannot comment on the evidence that is now before the court.

Around 4.30 p.m. on July 3, 2020, Hamilton Police were called to a purse snatching in the area of John Street South and Hunter Street. The culprit was chased by some witnesses who were confronted by the suspect who produced a knife.

Police arrived moments later and the suspect was apprehended. The arresting officers recognized him as the male from an earlier media release and notified Major Crime Investigators.

The male was conveyed to Central Station, interviewed and charged with the Attempted Murder of the 22-year-old female at Corktown Park earlier that morning.

Calvin David Horvat (30-years-old) of No Fixed Address will appear in a Hamilton Court on Saturday morning to be formally charged with Attempted Murder.

Shortly before 4 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, a 22-year-old female was walking through Corktown Park in Hamilton when she was attacked by a male and received multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

The victim’s 28-year-old boyfriend came across the attack as it was occurring and the male fled the scene westbound through the park.

The victim’s boyfriend attended a nearby building and asked for a tenant to call 911.

Hamilton Police officers arrived on scene first and performed first aid that was crucial to the victim’s chances of survival. When Hamilton Paramedic Service attended, they took over the treatment and transported the victim to hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She is currently still unconscious and is listed in stable condition. The male on scene was initially detained but was released after being interviewed by detectives. 

The suspect is described as male, white, short dark hair buzzed or combed back, early 30s, shirtless, medium build, clean shaven with some stubble.

Police are continuing a canvass of the area for surveillance footage and are asking anyone who was in the Corktown Park to James Street South area around the time, and who may have witnessed something relevant, to call.

The male captured in the image below is a person of interest whom police are looking to identify and interview. Anyone who knows this individual is asked to contact police.

Investigators have been unable to interview the victim at this time. The motive for the attack is unknown, and the weapon used has not been recovered.

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Hamilton Police and Hamilton Paramedics responded for reports of a shooting in the area of Sheila's Place/Ellis Kitchen located at 455 King St. E in Hamilton.

Police arrived on scene at approximately 2:34 a.m. and located a 24-year-old male with a gun shot injury to his head. The victim was transported to the Hamilton General Hospital by ambulance.

This male victim was treated at hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Investigators are seeking the following suspect:

• Male Black
• 20-30 yrs.
• White hooded jacket
• Light coloured pants
• Dark shoes
• Wearing a black satchel

This male was seen running from the scene northbound on East Ave. from King St. E. after the shooting.

Investigators are also seeking witnesses in this matter. At this time, witnesses are not forthcoming with information. Detectives are continuing to canvass the area.

On October 8, 2018, just after 9 a.m., Hamilton Police Service East End Patrol officers and a volunteer Hamilton Fire Fighter responded to a 911 call at a private residence on McNeilly Road in Stoney Creek. Upon arrival, they found a male in his 50s suffering life-threatening stab wounds. The male was transported to the hospital by EMS. A male in his 20s surrendered to Police without further incident.

The investigation revealed that this had been a family disturbance and the victim was the father of the male who had surrendered to Police. There was never any danger to the public.

The investigation was conducted by East End Divisional Detectives. Due to the circumstances involved, the continuing investigation will be taken over by the Major Crime Unit with ongoing support from the East End.

The accused male will appear in Court at John Sopinka Courthouse on October 9, 2018, facing the charge of Attempt Murder.
