Due to the severity of injuries, the Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit was activated and is assisting the Division 2 Criminal Investigation Detectives.

Hamilton Police closed the westbound lanes on the LINC for several hours to investigate the five-car collision. The investigation determined the driver of the F350 pick-up truck was travelling home to Michigan for the holidays when he fell asleep and crashed into the rear of the white Santa Fe travelling ahead. The forceful impact caused a chain reaction with three other cars travelling in the same direction.

A 61-year-old male driver from Welland received the initial impact and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and a 44-year-old Hamilton man driving a blue Mini Cooper was transported to hospital with less serious injuries.

The sequence of the collision was captured on the rear dash camera of the fifth car involved. The video has been uploaded for viewing.

 38-year-old, male from Michigan has been charged with Careless Driving.

Hamilton Police would like to remind the public about the importance of taking breaks when driving long distances and recommend breaking every 2-3 hours of driving - “Stay Awake and Stay Safe”

At approximately 6:20 a.m., on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, Mr. Peric was southbound on Trinity Church Road. It was dark, poor lighting and foggy weather conditions. Mr. Peric was not wearing a helmet, dressed in dark clothing and his riding lights were not visible to traffic at the time of the collision. While making a left turn onto Golf Club Road, Mr. Peric crossed in front of a southbound motor vehicle which struck him from behind, throwing him from the saddle and causing life-threatening injuries.

The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted a thorough investigation and determined the driver of the motor vehicle was not at fault for the incident and no charges are pending.

The 17-year-old male driver was arrested and will be facing four counts of Dangerous Driving causing Bodily Harm. As the accused is a young person, his name will not be released.

On Friday, August 17, 2018, shortly before 9:30 a.m., Hamilton’s Emergency Services partners responded to reports of a collision involving a cyclist and cement mixer truck at the intersection of King Street West and Queen Street North, Hamilton.

The cyclist, a 77-year-old Hamilton man has succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the cement mixer is cooperating with police.

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene of the collision and has carriage of the investigation which is still ongoing at this time.

On Thursday, August 16, 2018, shortly before 12:30 a.m. Hamilton’s Emergency Services partners responded to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and HSR Bus on Main Street West near Locke Street South, Hamilton.

Information obtained at the time depicts the male entered onto the roadway where he struck the side of an eastbound HSR Bus that was travelling on Main Street West. The bus driver is cooperating with police.

Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors to the collision. 

The male pedestrian, a 35-year-old Hamilton man was transported to hospital and remains in serious condition.

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene of the collision and has carriage of the investigation which is still ongoing at this time. No charges have been laid at this time.

On Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 shortly before 6:00 p.m., a 13-year-old male cyclist from Hamilton was crossing westbound on Upper Wentworth at Elite Drive, Hamilton while on his bicycle,. A collision occurred involving the bicycle and a 2005 Ford Pick-up truck. The 39-year- old male driver from Hamilton stopped his truck quickly but the cyclist was thrown off his bicycle, to the roadway. The cyclist has been transported to the Hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver is cooperating

On Friday, July 20, 2018, Warren Lewis  appeared in bail court and was released on a recognizance with a surety. The charges against both drivers were relayed as the following.

The next court appearance is scheduled for August 13, 2018, to set a date for trial.

On Saturday, June 16, 2018, shortly before 3:00 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision between a motorcycle and a pick-up truck on Miles Rd. at Whitechurch Road East, Hamilton.

A 44-year-old Hamilton man was operating a motorcycle travelling westbound on Whitechurch Road East when a collision occurred with a pick- up truck traveling southbound on Miles Rd. at Whitechurch Road East.

The motorcyclist was transported to hospital by Paramedics suffering serious injuries while the driver of the pick- up truck was not injured.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit of the Hamilton Police Service continues to investigate the collision. Any witnesses to the collision who have not already spoken with Police are being asked to contact the investigators at (905) 546-4753 or (905) 546-4755.

Through the course of the investigation, it has been learned that just prior to the collision, two Mercedes Benz motor vehicles were actively engaged in a street race at speeds over twice the speed limit on Queenston Road. As the Toyota motor vehicle entered onto Queenston Road from a private drive near Delena Avenue, it was struck on the driver’s side by the silver Mercedes Benz vehicle. After the collision with the Toyota vehicle, the silver Mercedes Benz vehicle careened westbound in the eastbound lanes of Queenston Road causing a secondary collision with the Ford Escape vehicle.

The operator of the white Mercedes Benz vehicle failed to remain at the collision scene, leaving the area without providing any information or assistance to involved persons.

During this investigation and the assistance from witnesses, a second Hamilton male 23 year old has been identified as the operator of outstanding vehicle has been identified and arrested. He has now been brought before the courts and is remanded into custody until Monday, June 18, 2018. The white Mercedes Benz vehicle has been located, seized and will be examined for any evidence.

On Wednesday June 13th, 2018, at approximately 5:30pm, police, fire and paramedics responded to reports of a multi vehicle collision on Queenston Road at Delena Avenue, Hamilton.

Emergency crews responded and rendered medical assistance to the 25 year old Hamilton woman who was driving a 2013 Toyota Yaris. The woman was unresponsive at the scene. Paramedics transported her to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

A 37 year old Hamilton man was operating his 2010 Ford Escape when he was struck head on. The 37 year old male was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.

A 35 year old Hamilton man was operating a 2009 Mercedes C35 was transported to hospital but treated and released with minor injuries. This driver was charged with Dangerous Driving causing Death and was held in custody.

Alcohol and speed were a factor in this collision.

On Thursday, June 14, 2018, at approximately 1:45 p.m., police, fire and paramedics responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision between a motorcycle and a cargo van on Garth Street at Madonna Drive, Hamilton.

Information indicated that a 30-year-old Hamilton man was operating the motorcycle and travelling southbound on Garth Street from the area of Rymal Road west, at a rate of speed higher than the posted 50/kmhr speed limit. A 39-year-old Hamilton man was operating a cargo van which was travelling northbound on Garth Street. The van began to conduct a left turn onto Madonna Drive when it was struck by the motorcycle.

Witnesses to the collision provided medical assistance to the motorcyclist before he was transported to hospital by Paramedics. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the cargo van remained on scene and is cooperated with the investigation.

This investigation will continue under the care of the Collision Reconstruction Unit of the Hamilton Police Service. Witnesses to the collision and events prior to the collision are being asked to contact the investigators at (905) 546-4753 or (905) 546-4755.

This is now the 8th fatal motor vehicle collision for the City in 2018.

There have been 6 drivers fatally injured this year.

On Monday May 28, 2018, just after 11 p.m., police, fire and paramedics responded to reports of a collision between a motorcycle and an automobile in the area of Dundas Street East, just west of Avonsyde Boulevard.

Emergency crews responded and began rendering medical assistance to the operator of the motorcycle, a 34 year old Burlington man, who had sustained critical injuries.

The 34 year old man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 27 year old female operator of the automobile was transported to hospital with minor injury.

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene of the collision and has carriage of the investigation which is still ongoing at this time. Investigators through their initial investigation indicated that speed was a factor. No charges have been laid at this time.

The truck hit a bench with a statue of sleeping Jesus before coming to a halt, preventing any further damage or injuries.

If the truck continued in its path it would have headed into oncoming westbound vehicular traffic and pedestrians on King Street
