On Sunday, July 21, 2024, shortly before 1:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Upper James Street between Dickenson Road East and English Church Road East in Hamilton.

At this time investigators can confirm a 2010 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling southbound on Upper James Street when it was rear-ended by a 2016 Honda Civic.
The Hyundai was driven by an 86-year-old and her 59-year-old daughter, both from Hamilton. The Honda was driven by a 24-year-old man from Hagersville. Both vehicles came to rest on the west shoulder of Upper James Street.

All three individuals involved in the collision were transported to hospital. The 86-year-old driver has life-threatening injuries, while the 59-year-old passenger and the 24-year-old driver have serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Hamilton Police are actively seeking any potential witnesses to this collision and urge anyone with information to come forward. Investigators are also requesting motorists who were in the area at the time of the collision to check their dash cameras, and residents or businesses with surveillance cameras to review their footage between 12:40 p.m. and 12:55 p.m. Any relevant footage may assist in the investigation.

On Monday, January 9, 2023, shortly before 4:45 a.m., a southbound pickup truck on Centennial Parkway South crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with a northbound SUV.  The initial collision forced the SUV into a collision with a third vehicle. 

The 35-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle, and breaching the conditions of his probation. The investigation is now complete and the suspect faces an additional criminal charge of Operation While Prohibited, as well as two provincial charges; Driving While Suspended, and Careless Driving.

Hamilton Police Investigate Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

On Saturday, December 10th, 2022 shortly after 9:00 pm, Hamilton Police responded to the area of Upper Wentworth Street and Elite Drive for reports of a fail to remain motor vehicle collision.

Police can confirm a collision occurred involving a male pedestrian and a stolen vehicle that fled the scene.  The stolen vehicle was located a short time later abandoned.  Emergency Services transported the male to hospital where he remains with critical, life threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this incident and will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.  Detectives are asking residents and businesses in the area to review their security cameras between the hours of 9:00pm and 10:00pm, for any suspicious activity and contact Police.  Detectives are also asking for anyone driving in the area at that time with dash cam footage to contact investigators.

On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Highway 8 and Westover Road in Flamborough for a male that was struck.

A 64-year-old man was struck by a transport truck within a business. Life saving measures were taken to save the male, however he was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Hamilton Police are assisting the Ministry of Labour as they have carriage of the investigation.

Due to Ministry of Transportation guidelines this will be deemed a motor vehicle collision and is the city’s 12th traffic fatality of the year and the 11th involving a pedestrian.

On Thursday, May 5, 2022, shortly after 2:00p.m., a 49-year-old Hamilton woman operating a bus was stopped, preparing to pick up a passenger on Main Street West, near Locke Street in the City of Hamilton.

At this time, a 75-year-old female was operating a 2012 Honda Civic eastbound on Main Street approaching Locke Street. The Honda vehicle left the roadway, striking a building, and the 49-year-old bus operator as she was exiting her vehicle.

The 49-year-old was transported to hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.

The 75-year-old female driver of the 2012 Honda Civic did not suffer any injury.

At the time of the collision, the 75-year-old female driver was arrested at the scene and has since been released pending further investigation. Due to the severity of the collision, the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was called in and has taken carriage of the investigation.  

Impairment is not a factor in this collision.

This is the City’s 11^th traffic fatality of 2022 and the tenth involving a pedestrian.

On Monday, April 25, 2022, shortly after 9 :00 a.m., a 51-year-old Hamilton man was operating a 2021 Peterbuilt transport truck towing a trailer northbound on Dundurn Street South, towards the intersection of King Street West. This intersection is controlled by a traffic light.  The driver began to conduct a left turn to proceed westbound on King Street West.

At the same time, a 31-year-old Hamilton man was operating a 2017 Acura sedan southbound on Dundurn Street North and proceeded into the intersection.  The front of the Acura and the front passenger corner of the Peterbuilt collided and came to rest just west of the intersection. 

The 31-year-old driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to hospital with serious injuries.  A 12-year-old passenger who was in the Acura was taken to hospital with minor injuries.  

The 51-year-old driver was not taken to hospital and has provided a statement to police. 

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.  Investigators have not been able to rule out any contributing factors.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, the male was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was driving westbound when his vehicle lost control and hit a concrete pole.

The investigation remains on-going in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Hamilton Police will not be releasing the identity of the deceased at this time.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on February 5, 2022, the male was struck by a single motor vehicle while attempting to cross the street.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and continues to cooperate with investigators.

This is the City’s third traffic fatality of 2022. The name of the male will not be released out of respect for the family at this time.

On Thursday, October 14, 2021, shortly before 10:20 p.m., a 38-year-old male attempted to run across Main Street West at Binkley Road, from the north side to the south side of the street, however was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound.

The driver remained at the scene and tended to the male until Hamilton Emergency Services arrived.

The male was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 20-year-old male was riding westbound on King Street West at Queen Street South when he collided with a southbound motor vehicle being driven by a 22-year-old male.

Both drivers are from Hamilton.

The motorcycle rider was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Due to the severity of these injuries, the Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.

Investigators have yet to rule out any factor in this ongoing investigation.

The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving a single-motor vehicle that occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. yesterday.

On Sunday, June 13, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred in the west end of Hamilton. A 72-year-old man from Hamilton was driving his black 2019 BMW sedan on Main Street West when it struck a pole at Whitney Avenue.

The intersection was closed for several hours as the Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene.

At this time police have not ruled out any contributing factors to the collision.

On Sunday, August 9, 2020, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a 53-year-old male from Scarborough was driving a large delivery vehicle eastbound on York Boulevard from Bay Street North in Hamilton. At the same time, a 58-year-old male Hamilton resident entered into the path of the vehicle and was struck causing serious injury to his chest and abdomen. The pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and the driver of the commercial vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

Police believe that speed and alcohol are not factors involved in this investigation. The driver will not be charged in this collision.

The occupants of the GMC vehicle were unharmed and the Honda driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. A 72-year-old Hamilton woman who was a passenger in the Honda was injured during the collision. She was transported to the hospital by Hamilton Paramedic Service and later died of her injuries.

The Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. The driver of the GMC vehicle has been charged. Speed and impairment have been ruled out.

Police are not releasing any names at this time.

On March 9, 2019, shortly after 2:05 p.m., the Hamilton Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a GO bus and a pedestrian at the Hamilton GO Centre located at 36 Hunter Street East, Hamilton.

A GO Bus parked at the bus terminal began reversing from the parking location resulting in a collision occurring between the bus and an 84-year-old woman from Brantford. The pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. The Hamilton Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the location and continued with the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, the GO Bus Driver has been charged. He will appear in court on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.
