The accused is scheduled for a bail hearing this morning and is facing the following charges:

-         Dangerous Operation

-         Assault with a Weapon

-         Fail to Comply with Release Order

-         Failure to stop after an accident

Hamilton Police Service has seen a significant increase in the number of complaints to the Aggressive Driver’s Hotline with regards to the proliferation of performance vehicles throughout the city. These complaints include loud exhaust systems, illegal light packages, loud stereo systems and the associated behaviours including street racing, dangerous driving and stunt driving. 

“We hear you, Hamilton,” says Superintendent Marty Schulenberg, “We’ve listened to residents from Stoney Creek to Waterdown that the excessive noise caused by a small number of cars, trucks and motorcycles is having a negative impact in our community.”

From June 18, 2021 to August 31, 2021, 1047 charges were laid, including the following:

• 40 Stunt-related charges
• 40 Vehicles towed
• 371 Muffler Infractions
• 580 Other related offences

“While Project TORQUE is over, we will continue to crack down on poor driving behaviours and vehicles with illegal modifications. We encourage residents to keep reporting to assist us in our efforts to keep our roads safe,” says Schulenberg.

On March 29, 2021, police were proactively patrolling Highway 6 North in the evening hours around 8:30 p.m. when a white Volkswagon was observed by an officer traveling Southbound at a high rate of speed. Using radar, the officer measured the vehicle to be travelling 124 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle by activating his emergency lights. However, the vehicle continued on at a high rate of speed and went over a hill before veering into oncoming traffic lanes. The vehicle then lost control before coming to rest in the ditch on the east side of Highway 6 North.

When police arrived on scene the vehicle was on fire and the driver had fled the vehicle. Officers searched the area for the driver and a K9 officer was called to the scene. The driver was eventually located hiding in the field nearby and was arrested and transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, shortly before 3:00 a.m., Hamilton Police attended a parking lot at 674 Queenston Road after receiving several complaints involving a silver coupe with one headlight. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle conducting donuts as it drove around the lot. Emergency lights and sirens were activated however, the driver refused to stop. For safety reasons, the officers maintained their position while continuing to monitor the vehicle. The vehicle briefly left the parking lot and upon its return, the driver exited the vehicle and was arrested without further incident.

The driver, a 28-year-old Hamilton man was taken into police custody. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, to answer to criminal charges.

Hamilton Police towed a 2005 Infinity G35 from the scene.

Hamilton Police are looking for a stolen 2004 grey Ford F350 pick-up truck after the driver fled from police. Anyone with information about the vehicle’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Hamilton Police Service.

On Monday, October 28, 2019, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the owner of a grey 2004 Ford F350 pick-up truck recognized their vehicle was stolen from their residence in the area of Garth Street and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway.

On Tuesday, October 29, 2019, shortly before 10:30 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted police after observing the vehicle parked in a strip plaza in the area of Limeridge Road West and Kendale Court. At the time, the occupant of the vehicle was acting in a suspicious manner. Police attended the location; however, the vehicle sped off prior to an investigation. In an attempt to evade police, the vehicle mounted the curb and caused property damage to foliage and a fence. It travelled eastbound on the LINC and was last seen northbound on Upper Wentworth Street.

There were no reported injuries during the incident.

The Hamilton Police Service continues to investigate the incident and is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle. Drivers in the area at the time are asked to check their dash cameras for any images of the suspect vehicle.

On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, shortly before 7:00 p.m., while conducting mobile patrol on the LINC near the Upper Wellington overpass, police observed a driver operating a vehicle while using his cell phone. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle which continued westbound as the driver and passenger switched seating positions. The vehicle swerved during the process almost striking the curb. Once the occupants assumed their new positions the vehicle came to a stop. The officer approached the vehicle on the passenger side to arrest the original driver. An altercation ensued and the male was able to flee. A perimeter was set-up; however, he was not located. The driver who remained at the vehicle was arrested. Police observed in plain sight a bottle containing a liquid substance containing Codeine, which is in violation of the controlled drugs and substance act. The bottle was seized and the male was taken into police custody.

Further investigation, revealed the male was currently bound by a probation order. His arrest signified violations to that order.

The male was held for a bail hearing. He will appear in court today to answer to several criminal charges.

The vehicle was towed to a secured compound.
