On Monday, October 26, 2020, shortly after 11:00 p.m., two groups of males were involved in a dispute in the area of 525 Stone Church Road East. During that incident, a single gunshot was fired and the males disbursed prior to police arrival. Once on scene, police secured the area and later discovered the single shot had struck an unoccupied parked vehicle.

At this time there is no information to suggest anyone sustained an injury as a result of the incident.

Detectives from the Mountain Division Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate. Area residents are asked to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity.

On Sunday, October 27, 2019, shortly before midnight, a couple was in a residence on Bowman Street when they were assaulted after opening the door to three masked males. The male victim, 19-years-of-age from Etobicoke, received injuries from a sharp-edged weapon. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female victim, 19-years-of-age from Hamilton, was sprayed with an unknown aerosol irritant. She was medically treated at the scene.

The three masked suspects fled the scene. They are described as being brown-skinned and wearing dark clothing.

Through investigation, police believe this was a targeted incident in relation to a disturbance that took place at the residence the night before.

Hamilton Police Detectives are asking residents in the area to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity.

On Tuesday, July 16, 2019, shortly before 5:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving two females at the Urban Core Health Centre, 71 Rebecca Street.

The victim, a 34-year-old female of no fixed address, was transported to the hospital with minor lacerations to her hands. Detectives attended the hospital and spoke the victim however; she is not cooperating with the investigation.

Through the investigation, police were able to identify an 18-year-old female believed to be the other female involved. She was arrested on an outstanding warrant and turned over to a neighbouring police agency. The females are known to each other and this incident was targeted.

In the middle of the park, away from the main Hamilton Pride festivities, officers located a large disturbance between two groups of individuals. Numerous people were engaged in a physical confrontation where several individuals received injuries. Police separated both groups and they were escorted off the property.

The following individual is facing two charges of Assault With a Weapon:

Christopher Vanderweide, 27, from Kitchener

His bail has been opposed.

This marks the fourth individual charged related to the altercation in Gage Park. This includes one individual who was arrested for a parole violation for participating in a public demonstation where peace was disrupted and two individuals who turned themselves into police as a result of breaching probation for participating in a demonstration that was not peaceful.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate the events at Hamilton’s Pride celebration. Police continue to encourage victims and witnesses to come forward to further the investigation, with the possibility of laying additional charges. On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to reports of a street disturbance in the area of Sherman Avenue north of Barton Street East. Prior to police arrival, people believed to be involved in the incident were observed fleeing through an alley, west of Sherman Avenue. Once on scene police became aware of a disturbance at a nearby residence on Barton Street. They attended the location and with the front door already open continued to hear screaming and disorder. In order to check on the safety of the occupants, police entered the residence and discovered three males who claimed to have been assaulted with an aerosol irritant. The males also displayed minor injuries believed to have been obtained in a physical altercation prior to police presence. Further information surrounding that incident was not provided to police.

Through investigation, police learned the males were involved in the original disturbance. Evidence was gathered to support their roles in damaging a residence on Sherman Avenue; several windows and a door affected, valued at approximately $1000.  

The males were arrested and taken into police custody. They were subsequently released and are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 13, 2019, to answer to the charge of Mischief.

On March 28, 2019, shortly before 1:00 p.m., an Etobicoke resident attended the John Sopkina Courthouse at 45 Main Street East, for a scheduled court appearance. The male became agitated during the court proceedings and threw plastic cups inside the courtroom and hallway. He then exited the courthouse through the front doors, finding an opportunity to kick benches, mailbox, knock over magazine and newspaper dispensers before crossing the road and arming himself with a two by four that he threw at the window of the Provincial Courthouse at 50 Main Street East.

Courthouse Special Constables called the police for assistance due to public safety and the male’s unpredictable and aggressive behaviour.

Police arrived and located the male behind the courthouse, exiting from the rear of a parked car on John Street South. The vehicle was stopped and the male was arrested at the corner of John Street South and Hunter Street East in Hamilton.

The accused was brought into Central custody with his bail opposed.

Charged: Adam Peron (31-years-old) Etobicoke resident

Charges:

• Cause Disturbance
• Mischief
• Assault (Resist Peace Officer)

The Hamilton Police responded to the area and determined that during the dispute several persons incurred injuries from an edged weapon. The injured persons did not suffer life threatening injuries. A 36 year-old male was arrested in relation to the incident and charged with aggravated assault and three counts of assault with a weapon and possession of weapons dangerous to public peace. There are no outstanding suspects.
