An arrest of a 43-year-old man for impaired driving leads to police seizing a loaded firearm.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at approximately 4:00 a.m. Hamilton Police responded to a possible impaired driver at a fast food restaurant on Cootes Drive. Upon arrival, police located a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in the drive-thru with an unresponsive single passenger in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Police gained entry to the vehicle and checked on the wellbeing of the driver, who was hunched over and appeared sweaty. The driver eventually gained consciousness and was disoriented and unsteady on his feet.

Police arrested the 43-year-old man after locating drugs and evidence to support drug use.

During a search of the vehicle, police located the following;

• 20g of crystal methamphetamine
• 2 glass pipes with residue
• An unloaded Smith and Wesson M and P handgun
• Two magazines containing .45 calibre rounds
• 20 pills of oxycodone

Hamilton Police have charged 43-year-old, Frank Curto for the following;

• Operation while Impaired by drug
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm - Loaded
• Unsafe Storage
• Possession of a Restricted Firearm
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
• CDSA 5(2) Methamphetamine
• CDSA 5(2) Oxycodone
• Possession of Proceeds of Crime under $5000.00
• Failure or Refusal to comply with Demand (Drugs)

Hamilton Police are asking the public for their assistance in identifying a suspicious vehicle and driver.

On Sunday, April 9, 2023, Hamilton Police entered into an investigation after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Mead Avenue and Tate Avenue in the East End of Hamilton between 1:00p.m. and 2:00p.m.

The vehicle and driver are described as;

Driver:

• Female
• White
• Thin build
• Late 20’s or early 30’s
• Freckles
• Black hair
• Blue eyes

Vehicle:

• Black GMC pickup truck
• Crew cab
• Short box with tonneau cover with distinctive rims

Hamilton Police responded to complaints of an impaired driver and located a sawed-off shotgun.

On Sunday, February 12, 2023, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Hamilton Police received reports of a possible impaired driver in the area of Barton Street and Sanford Avenue.

Hamilton Police responded to the area, located the vehicle and after investigation, arrested the driver for impaired driving. During the search of the vehicle, police located a sawed off shotgun.  

The 37-year-old male driver has been charged with;

• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drug.
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon.
• Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm.
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm.
• Fail to Comply with a Probation Order X2

On Thursday, May 19, 2022, at approximately 6:15p.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of the Lincoln Alexander Parkway, east of Golf Links Road in the City of Hamilton. There were six vehicles involved, one tractor trailer and five passenger sedans.

A 50-year-old Hamilton man suffered serious injury but is in stable condition. Other involved parties were transported to hospital, but later released, reporting minor injuries.

The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, was called in and has taken carriage of the investigation.

On Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at approximately 2:30 p.m., a 14-year-old female pedestrian of Hamilton was crossing Dundurn Street at Main Street East.   The female was struck by a 2016 Hyundai motor vehicle that was being driven by a 49-year-old Hamilton male.

The 49-year-old Hamilton male is facing the charge of Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm under The Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

The 14-year-old pedestrian is at home recovering from the injuries sustained from the collision.  

On Thursday, July 22, 2021, shortly before 2p.m., Emergency Services responded for a collision involving a cyclist and a motor vehicle at the intersection of Bay Street and Jackson Street in the City of Hamilton.

The cyclist was riding northbound on Bay Street in the bike lane. The vehicle driver, also northbound on Bay Street, had initially stopped for traffic before proceeding to make a left turn onto Jackson Street, in front of the bicycle. The cyclist collided with the vehicle as a result. The male cyclist was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Hamilton Police have now laid a charge against the driver of the 2018 BMW motor vehicle in regards to this collision.

The 38-year-old cyclist from Hamilton remains in hospital undergoing treatment for his injuries but is now listed in stable condition.
