Police have now spoken to all the individuals involved in Friday’s altercation at Jackson Square and are not looking for any more suspects.

On April 24, 2026, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to reports of a shooting inside Jackson Square. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

“Our community continues to grieve the loss of a 16-year-old whose life was cut short in an act of senseless violence. The fact that another young person is alleged to be responsible is deeply troubling. This is not just a police matter – it is a community call to action,” said Chief Frank Bergen. “We should all be concerned when violence becomes an option for youth instead of resolution and hope.”

Hamilton Police are searching for a 14-year-old male in connection with a shooting death at Jackson Square.

On April 24, 2026, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to reports of a shooting inside Jackson Square. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Nabil Askafe of Hamilton. Nabil’s family has requested privacy as they deal with their loss.

Two males were observed fleeing the area eastbound toward James Street. Police have identified one of the suspects as a 14-year-old youth, who is currently wanted in connection with this incident. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him. Police are urging him to contact investigators or seek legal counsel and turn himself in. He is facing a 2^nd degree murder charge.

Police are currently seeking judicial authorization to release the suspect's name and photo. 

Police believe there was an altercation prior to Nabil’s death inside the mall. During the physical altercation, the suspect brandished a firearm and shot Nabil. Police are also asking the individual who was with the suspect to also come forward so investigators can talk to him.

Investigators have executed two search warrants at residences in the City of Hamilton where the male was believed to be. Despite these efforts, the accused remains at large. Hamilton Police will not stop until he is taken into custody.

The 17-year-old male is wanted for:

• Second Degree Murder
• Attempted Murder x2

The shooting targeted a group of individuals in the downtown core. While firing at his intended targets, the accused struck and killed 26-year-old Belinda Sarkodie, an innocent bystander.

Hamilton Police are urging the 17-year-old male to obtain legal counsel and surrender to police. As a reminder, anyone who knowingly aids the accused in avoiding arrest may face criminal charges.

On December 15, 2024, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Hamilton Police were called to Peddles Tavern after a male had been stabbed. Shah Ghafoori, 34-years-old, was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Pierce Herod, 28-years-old, from St. Catharines, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with 2^nd degree murder.

At this time, it appears the victim and suspect were not known to each other and the attack was unprovoked.

Niagara Regional Police Service have arrested a female believed to be involved in homicides in Toronto, Niagara, and Hamilton.

On October 1, 2024, at 2:08 p.m., police responded to a call for Service in the Keele Street and Dundas Street West area. At that time, it was reported that a woman in her 60s was located deceased inside a residence with visible trauma to her body. 

On October 2, 2024, at 2:49 p.m. emergency services personnel responded to John Allan Park in the City of Niagara Falls for a report of a disturbance. When 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), arrived on scene they found an adult male suffering from critical injuries.  Despite medical intervention efforts by Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Niagara Falls Fire Service, 47-year-old Lance Cunningham was pronounced deceased at the scene.

On October 3, 2024, at approximately 12:26 p.m., Hamilton Police received a 911 call requesting an ambulance to the parking lot of 209 MacNab Street North, where an unresponsive male was found with significant injuries consistent with a stabbing. Police and Hamilton Paramedics responded to the scene, and the victim, 77-year-old Mario Bilich was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators were able to link the Hamilton homicide to the recent murder in John Allen Park in Niagara Falls, determining the suspect matched the description in both cases. An additional link was made to the active homicide investigation from October 1 in Toronto. 

As a result, 30-year-old Sabrina Kauldhar was arrested in the Burlington area by Niagara Police Service uniform officers and subsequently charged with first degree murder in the Hamilton homicide and second-degree murder in the Toronto and Niagara investigations. 

Investigators believe Mario Bilich and Lance Cunningham were randomly targeted, while Kauldhar was known to the Toronto victim. 

This remains an ongoing investigation by Homicide detectives; as they continue to determine the timeline of events, they are asking anyone with information, or who may have seen Kauldhar between October 1 and her arrest on October 3 at 5:45pm in Burlington.

Detectives are also attempting to identify a female who was observed on CCTV footage on October 1 at the Giant Tiger located at 2025 Guelph Line in Burlington buying clothing that Kauldhar had in her possession at the time of her arrest.

Hamilton Police have charged three individuals in connection with the 2021 homicide of Sheydon Storer.

On December 21, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to the area of Upper Wentworth and Mohawk Road for shots fired. Upon arriving, police located 24-year-old Sheydon Storer lying in his driveway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sheydon’s murder appeared to be targeted and planned.

Over the past three years, detectives have been actively investigating, following up on evidence and pursuing new leads. At the time, a crucial piece of evidence was footage from a nearby video surveillance system, which police believed captured the getaway vehicle arriving just before the murder and leaving immediately after. Investigators released a photo of the vehicle, requesting the public's assistance.

In fall 2023, the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit joined with the Intelligence Unit to form Project Ohio with the sole purpose of investigating Sheydon Storer’s murder.

As a result of Project Ohio, investigators have charged the following persons:

Ahmed Issak Hussen

• 23-years-old from Hamilton
• Charge:  First Degree Murder

Kamaldeep Dhaliwal

• 22-years-old from Hamilton
• Charges:  First Degree Murder

Also charged in relation to this investigation:

Tasnim Beauvais

• 24 years-old from Edmonton
• Charges:  Accessory after the Fact to Murder and Obstruct a Peace Officer

With these arrests, Sheydon’s family would like to share the following statement:

The victims have been identified as Barbara Church, a 77-year-old resident, and Derek Emmons, a 51-year-old individual. Barbara Church was found deceased on the bed with a stab wound, while Derek Emmons was also found deceased from a self-inflicted injury.

A knife with blood was recovered from the scene. Following autopsies, the police have determined Barbara Church’s death to be a homicide and Derek Emmons’ death to be a suicide.

Efforts to locate Barbara Church’s next of kin have thus far been unsuccessful, and police are continuing their search for any surviving relatives.

Derek Emmons’s family has been notified of his passing.

At this time, police do not believe there are any additional suspects related to this incident.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m. Hamilton Police, along with emergency services, responded to a residence on Ottawa Street near Main Street. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals inside the apartment who were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. At this time, no suspects are being sought, and the identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Paramedics responded to a medical call at 36 Queen Street South, where they discovered 46-year-old David Fugler unconscious in his room. Fugler was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early the next morning.

An autopsy conducted on Monday, August 5, 2024, led police to determine that Fugler's death was a homicide.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, police arrested Hemraj Lakhan, Fugler's 40-year-old roommate, on charges of second-degree murder. Lakhan is being held for bail and is scheduled to appear in court today.

David Fugler’s family has been informed of the ongoing investigation and has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Police have confirmed that no firearms were involved. However, mental health is believed to have played a role in the incident. Hemraj Lakhan was previously known to the police.

Police are not seeking any additional suspects in connection with this investigation.

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Paramedics responded to a medical incident at 36 Queen Street South. A 46-year-old resident, David Fugler, was found unconscious in his room and was transported to the hospital. Tragically, David passed away early the next morning.

The coroner notified the Hamilton Police Service of the death. Following an autopsy conducted on Monday, August 5, 2024, the results led police to determine that the death was a homicide. The Homicide Unit was subsequently called in that afternoon.

Police are currently securing the scene at 36 Queen Street South and will maintain a presence in the area throughout the day.

David’s family has been informed of the investigation and has requested privacy during this difficult time. David was a beloved son, brother, and friend.

At this time, no arrests have been made. Police have confirmed that firearms are not involved in this investigation, and David was not previously known to the police.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and will be in the area over the next couple of days, speaking to witnesses and collecting video.

Earlier this month, police announced the arrest of Donte Smith for manslaughter in relation to the investigation. Smith remains in custody after his bail was denied at a hearing on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Albert Hyseni was injured following the incident and was transported to hospital where he received treatment and was later released.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate the murder of Randy Peardon and announce the arrest of 23-year-old Alexander La from Hamilton, in connection with this homicide. La, who remains in custody on other charges, was charged today with second-degree murder. The cause of death has been confirmed as multiple gunshot wounds.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, Hamilton Police were called to 100 Connaught Avenue for reports of a deceased male. The scene was secured, and the Homicide Unit commenced an investigation. An autopsy confirmed that Peardon's death was a homicide. Peardon lived in the area but did not reside at the address where he was found.

While we have a clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding the murder, investigators continue to examine the events that followed. On October 3, 2023, Hamilton Police responded to reports of shots fired at 111 Herkimer Street in Hamilton. Upon arrival, officers located Tito Kelly, who was deceased. Investigators believe this incident resulted from a drug transaction that led to both sides exchanging gunfire.

A second male, whose name will not be released at this time, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and received treatment at a hospital.

Police have arrested thirty-six-year-old Brampton resident, Donte Smith, for manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing as officers believe at least one other parties was involved. Smith remains in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for July 11.

On Sunday, June 30, 2024 at approximately 4:35a.m., the Hamilton Police Service responded to reports of a shooting along Highway #6 in Flamborough between Concessions 7 and 8.   This shooting originated from a disturbance that had occurred at a large house party taking place in a short-term rental property along Highway #6.  This disturbance continued onto the highway resulting in shots being fired at a car parked on the shoulder of the highway and at another car stopped in a nearby gas station.

One male was located in the parked vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.  He was transported to local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.  The deceased has now been identified as 45-year old Tobenna Obiaga of Halton Region.  

Family have provided a photograph of Tobenna to be released to the media.

Two of the occupants in the vehicle at the nearby gas station also suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds and were later released from hospital.  A fourth person was also injured at the house and was released from hospital with minor injuries that were not firearm-related.  

Witnesses described a dark grey sedan fleeing the scene of the shooting but no further suspect description is available at this time.

Police are still guarding the property and several cars left at the scene pending search warrants being issued later today.  Investigators believe that there are numerous witnesses to this homicide that have not come forward to speak to police and those witnesses are urged to contact the Homicide Unit.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to a reported shooting near Concession 6 E. Upon arriving, police found a male victim with non-life-threatening injuries. The male reported he had been shot at a party located in a nearby short-term rental property. Upon arriving at the property, police learned at least two other victims had fled the scene and one later succumbed to his injuries in a car nearby. A female sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are working to identify the victim and locate next of kin.

There were approximately 60 people in attendance at the party. Investigators are interviewing witnesses to determine what took place. At this time, police do not have a suspect or vehicle description.

Highway 6 is closed in both directions between Concession 6 E and Concession 7 E. Halton Regional Police Service and OPP are assisting with traffic as investigators process the scene.

Video surveillance on Main Street East shows an unknown male picking up another male in a green Nike tracksuit at the corner of Leinster Avenue South and Main Street East at 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. He drives him a few hundred metres down the road and drops him off at the corner of Connaught Avenue South and Main Street East. 

The man wearing the green Nike tracksuit has been identified. Investigators are now working to identify the unknown individual who picked him up.

The vehicle is a four-door red Hyundai Elantra with black rims.

Hamilton Police are releasing the name of the city’s recent homicide victim, 37-year-old Randy Peardon from Hamilton.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on June 15, 2024, Hamilton Police were called to 100 Connaught Avenue for reports of a deceased male. The scene was secured and the Homicide Unit was called to investigate.

An autopsy confirmed Peardon’s death was a homicide. He lived in the area but did not reside at the address where he was located. 

The residence continues to be held by police pending the execution of a search warrant. Police expect to be in the area for at least another day.

Police have canvassed the area for witnesses and video. Investigators are now in the process of examining the video that has been collected.

Investigators continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward, including those with video surveillance that captures the area from Melrose Avenue South to Gage Avenue along Main Street and Connaught Avenue to Dunsmure Rd between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 15.

The Homicide Unit immediately took carriage of the investigation due to the suspicious circumstances around the death.  

On Thursday evening, police executed two search warrants in Hamilton in relation to the investigation.    Michael Castiglione, a 36 year old man from Hamilton, has been charged with second degree murder.      

Police are not seeking additional suspects or involved vehicles and believe the incident was isolated, as the deceased and the accused, were known to each other.

Hamilton Police are continuing to investigate following the discovery of a body at Pier 4 Park on Tuesday morning. The deceased has since been identified as, Jason Gallant, a 50 year old man from the Hamilton area.  

The Homicide Unit is investigating as the death has been deemed suspicious.    The cause of death is currently unknown with an autopsy expected within the next two days.

Homicide investigators can now confirm, with the public’s assistance, police have recovered the black Honda Civic used by the shooter. This vehicle was located in Hamilton’s east end and detectives continue to investigate the movements of this vehicle around the city both before and after the shooting. 

Investigators have also reviewed video footage from numerous cameras in the area in an attempt to identify the suspect(s) involved in this murder.

As the family of Alexander Circiumaru mourns the loss of their beloved son and brother, they have chosen to share a letter conveying their thoughts and emotions during this challenging period.

     We have no words to express our heartbreak – we can only keep praying for justice. The man who maliciously, with no care for human life, took our son Alexander Lee Circiumaru on 3-6-24 will be brought to justice. The individual has no right to be a part of society and to be free.      We want to say how much gratitude we have for the man who was willing to help our son with CPR. We also want to thank the first responders, paramedics, police and anyone who witnessed and was able to give statements. Genuinely, thank you all. Hamilton Police continue to investigate the City’s second homicide of the year.

On Wednesday March 6, 2024, shortly before 1:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 119 King Street West, Hamilton.  Officers arrived on scene locating a male on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. The male was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. 

The victim of this murder has now been identified as, 19-year-old, Alexander Circiumaru of Hamilton.  Family have provided the below photograph to be released to the public.  A post mortem examination is taking place today in Toronto.

Investigation has revealed that Alexander Circiumaru was walking on the sidewalk when a single male shooter jumped out of a car and shot several times before returning to the car and fleeing westbound on King Street West.  The vehicle was last seen continuing westbound in the area of King Street West and Queen Street North. 

The shooter is described as a male, dressed all in black clothing and wearing a face mask.  The suspect vehicle is believed to be a newer model Honda Civic black or dark grey in colour with a spoiler on the trunk. 

Police believe this to be a targeted attack and are reviewing area CCTV video in an effort to identify those people involved.

Suspects were seen fleeing the area. At this time, there are no suspect or vehicle descriptions. Investigators believe this to be a targeted shooting.

Around 7:42 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2024, Hamilton Police responded to a call at a residence in Stoney Creek, close to Trafalgar and Mud Street. There, they found 56-year-old Kuldip Singh from Stoney Creek suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. 

Sukhraj Cheema-Singh fled the scene in a dark blue mid-size SUV, later identified as a blue 2022 Ford Edge with a Quebec licence plate. Hamilton Police arrested Cheema-Singh at 2:55 p.m. in the area of Dufferin St. and Eglington Ave W. He was still driving the vehicle.

Cheema-Singh will appear in court on February 13, 2024.

Hamilton Police release names of deceased and suspect in recent homicide. 

At approximately 7:42 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2024, Hamilton Police were called to a home in Stoney Creek, near the intersection of Trafalgar and Mud Street. Officers discovered a 56-year-old man with severe injuries. He was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old, Kuldip Singh of Stoney Creek.

The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old, Sukhraj Cheema-Singh, the son of the deceased.

Sukhraj Cheema-Singh is wanted by police for First Degree Murder. Sukhraj remains outstanding and is considered armed and dangerous. 

Sukhraj Cheema-Singh fled in a dark blue mid-size SUV. It was last seen travelling northbound on Trafalgar towards Mud Street.

The suspect and victim were known to each other. Witnesses within the residence told police the male suspect fled immediately after an altercation with the victim. 

The suspect fled in a small dark coloured SUV. It was last seen travelling  northbound on Trafalgar towards Mud Street. Investigators believe the suspect was in the area for approximately 30 minutes prior to the incident. 

At this time, the victim’s name will not be released.

Hamilton Police are appealing for a female witness to come forward relating to the recent homicide of Daniel Musafiri.

On December 29, 2023, police were called to the area of Queen Street and York Blvd at 10:48 p.m. for reports of shots fired. Upon arriving, police found Daniel suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased.

Investigators have now determined that Daniel was at Boulevard Billiards prior to his death. Upon exiting, he was confronted by a suspect driving a 2022 black Dodge Challenger Hellcat. A short verbal exchange took place between Daniel and this individual before Daniel was fatally shot.

The Challenger was last seen traveling South on Queen Street from the parking area of 103 Queen Street North, immediately after the murder occurred. This vehicle has not been recovered.

The suspect is described as:

• Male
• Middle-Eastern appearance
• Fair complexion
• 25-30 years old
• Full, long beard

Investigators also believe a female witness was present and has important information relating to the homicide. Police encourage this individual to come forward. She is described as

• Dark flip-flop sandals

Detectives continue to review video surveillance footage and additional images may be released at a later date.

On December 29, 2023, police were called to the area at 10:48 p.m. for reports of shots fired. Upon arriving, police found a male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased. The male has since been identified as Daniel Musafiri from Hamilton.

Suspects were seen fleeing the area. At this time, there are no suspect or vehicle descriptions.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in relation to the murder of Tyler Hayden Robitaille.

On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m. Hamilton Police responded to reports of a man bleeding and unconscious in the area of MacNab Street near Jackson Street. The victim was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Hamilton Police have arrested, Tyler Barberstock, 35-year-old man of Hamilton for Second Degree Murder charges.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to reports of shots fired outside Satellite Tires at 100 Nebo Rd. Laffin was at his workplace when the shooting happened. He managed to flee to a neighbouring property where he was shot several more times and succumbed to his injuries. 

Laffin is survived by his parents, sister, grandmother, and a two-year-old son.

Investigators are seeking a dark-colored 4-door SUV in connection with the shooting. The shooter is described as a male, black, approximately 6 ft tall, with a thin build. He was seen wearing dark clothing and a surgical mask.

Residents can expect a continued police presence in the area for the next 48 hours. Police are processing the scenes, collecting video evidence, and interviewing witnesses. The motive for the homicide remains unknown.

On the morning of Monday, November 27, Hamilton Police responded to reports of a stabbing in the area of Park Avenue North and York Boulevard, arriving at the scene shortly after 8:30 a.m. 

Following police response to the incident,  Nathan Kanis-Lynch, a 25-year-old individual, was subsequently arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of a 52-year-old man from Hamilton. Mr. Kanis-Lynch remains in custody.

Hamilton Police responded to a stabbing in the area of Park Avenue North and York Boulevard shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023. Upon arrival,  a male in his 50s was located with injuries. Despite being transported to the hospital, the male was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators continued to canvass witnesses, pursue leads, and search for the suspect described by witnesses as a white male in dark clothing. Shortly after 11:00 a.m. police arrested a 25-year-old male and the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate. It's important to note that the investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been laid at this time.

In efforts to gather more information, investigators are appealing to businesses and residents in the area to review any surveillance footage that may assist the case.

With the permission of the family, Hamilton Police confirm 36-year-old Tito Kelly from Hamilton is the victim of the city’s most recent homicide.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate the shooting that took Tito’s life as investigation has revealed a small royal blue four door sedan with dark tint fled the scene westbound on Markland Street at a high rate of speed. 

Police are appealing to home owners and motorists in the area to check their cameras between the hours of 10:50 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. for images of the vehicle. 

Police can confirm a loaded firearm was located at the scene.

On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m. Hamilton Police responded to reports of a man bleeding and unconscious in the area of MacNab Street near Jackson Street. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and immediately administered first aid to the victim. The victim was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Hamilton Police Homicide Unit are now investigating the death of a 33-year-old man of Hamilton. The scene continues to be held at this time as it is being processed.

The victim sustained an injury that was life-threatening, though the cause of death has still not been determined.

At this time, the police are actively seeking any potential witnesses to this incident and urge anyone with information to come forward.

On March 2, 2020, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Giorgio Barresi returned to his residence on Portofino Place in Stoney Creek. He was confronted in his driveway by a single suspect and was shot multiple times. Giorgio succumbed to his injuries almost immediately.

The suspect attended the area in a four-door sedan parked by the intersection of Portofino Place and Lido Drive. It is believed that at least one other individual remained with the suspect vehicle during the incident. The suspect walked back to the vehicle after the shooting, which then fled south on Lido Drive.

Initial information showed historical ties between Giorgio Barresi and the Musitano traditional organized crime group. This investigation involved over 50 Judicial Authorizations and was part of Project Skyfall through 2020-2021. 

On September 1, 2023, after an intensive investigation, the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit laid first-degree murder charges on two Toronto individuals.  

Charged:

• Jamal Chemin, 41-years-old from Toronto
• Sorossa Moude, 27-years-old from Toronto

Although investigators believe these two individuals are involved in this homicide, police continue to urge anyone with additional information to come forward to speak with police.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in relation to the murder of Everton Frost.

On Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 8:12 p.m., Hamilton Police and Hamilton Paramedic Service responded to reports of a shooting on Morris Avenue. Police and Paramedics arrived on scene to find the victim, 23-year-old, Everton Frost, in the middle of the roadway with gunshot wounds. Everton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hamilton Police have arrested, Salomon Bashir, a 20-year-old man of Hamilton for First Degree Murder charges and will appear in court today.

On July 2, 2023, Hamilton Police were called to a residence on Cadham Blvd just after 10:00 p.m. for multiple 911 calls. Officers arrived to find a 16-year-old male victim who had been stabbed by his 22-year-old cousin at a family gathering.

The victim was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Bistoyong was arrested this morning and charged with first degree murder. He will appear in court this afternoon.

The victim’s family is devastated by their loss and have asked for privacy. They do not wish to release the name of their son at this time and Hamilton Police will respect their wishes.

Hamilton Police are confirming that 62-year-old Jacquelyne (Jackie) Buckle was the victim in last evening’s homicide on Herkimer St.

On Monday, June 26, 2023, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a mid-rise building on Herkimer Street for reports of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, police located Jackie without vital signs. She was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Her 34-year-old son, Daryl Buckle, was arrested for first-degree murder and appeared in court earlier this morning.

Police are continuing to hold the scene and are not seeking additional suspects in this investigation.

“Carissa and Aaron were two beautiful souls.  They were such family oriented people who were so full of life and love. They loved their family, friends, each other, their fur baby Max and their time spent enjoying the outdoors and nature. They were days away from moving into their new home and starting the next chapter of their lives. They took pride in their home and always paid their bills on time.  They were planning on getting married this summer. They were hardworking, honest, giving people who would do anything in their power to help anyone who needed it.  They were respectable, responsible, law-abiding citizens. Carissa was very dedicated to her career, she loved her job, her school family and all of “her kids” as she called them.  Her passion outside of the outdoors was her career.  Aaron was very well respected in his union and he had just finished his five years of education, he passed his exams with flying colours and was planning to write his ticket.  He possessed so much knowledge inside his profession.  After a long day of work, Aaron could always be found working on his truck or tinkering around doing some kind of mechanic work. When they weren’t excelling and enjoying their careers they could be found camping and enjoying time with friends and family. Anyone who crossed paths with Aaron or Carissa knew that the special bond they shared with each other and their family and friends is something that everyone will be able to carry with them and cherish forever. Both of them had a heart of gold, imagine when you put those two hearts together.  What happened to Carissa and Aaron was truly an act of unnecessary violence and they will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing them.”

On February 28, 2021, the Hamilton Police Service responded to a shooting that occurred in the area of 347 Arvin Avenue, Stoney Creek.  A 26-year-old female was located suffering from serious injuries and transported to hospital, while 39-year-old Tyler Pratt was found deceased at the location. The female victim survived her injuries. 

Oliver Karafa and Yun (Lucy) Li were identified as suspects in the investigation and arrested in Budapest, Hungary in June 2021 for the murder of Tyler Pratt and attempted murder of the female victim.  

Li was granted bail in January 2022, while Karafa has remained in custody since his arrest.  

On May 29, 2023, Li was arrested for Breach of a Court Order x2.  An investigation conducted by the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit revealed that on May 22, 2023, Li failed to comply with distinct conditions of her release that resulted in her arrest. She will be held pending a bail hearing.    

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, Hamilton Police responded to 322 Jones Road in Stoney Creek and found two deceased victims. A 27-year-old female and 28-year-old male were both tenants at the residence.

The 57-year-old landlord barricaded himself in the residence with firearms that were registered to him. Hamilton Police Emergency Response Unit contained the area, while negotiators engaged in contact with the male in an attempt to peacefully resolve the incident.

At one point during the negotiations, the suspect fired at the Hamilton Police armoured vehicle. The suspect later fired additional rounds, which resulted in an interaction with police.

The Special Investigations Unit has been contact and has invoked their mandate. There is no longer a threat to public safety.

Families of both victims have been notified. At this time, the victims’ names will not be released.

On Friday, March 24, 2023, shortly before 4:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to the area of Sanford Avenue North and Acorn Street for a shooting that had just occurred. Robert Barberstock, a 53-year-old Hamilton man, was found deceased inside a residence by gunshot wound.

Through investigation, it was learned that a suspect involved in the shooting of Robert Barberstock also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., Hamilton Police and emergency services attended the Red Rose Motel located at 553 Queenston Road, for a man with a life threatening leg injury. Investigation revealed that the injury to the leg did not occur at the motel. 

Hamilton Police have arrested, Luke Willems, a 38-year-old man of Hamilton for First Degree Murder charges.

On Friday, March 24, 2023 shortly before 4:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to the area of Sanford Avenue North and Acorn Street for a shooting that had just occurred.  A 53-year-old Hamilton man was found deceased inside a residence.  

The Homicide Unit has been investigating and can confirm that the deceased male has been identified as Robert Barberstock.   Police believe this was a targeted attack and are currently looking for three to four male supsects who were seen fleeing from the scene.   

Police have confirmed that Barberstock was killed from a gun shoot wound.

On Thursday, November 10, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police responded to 195 Ferguson Avenue North in Hamilton for reports of a deceased 38-year-old female who was found in her apartment. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene. Police believe Danielle died late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. 

On December 31, 2022, Homicide detectives were made aware that the 16-year-old was enroute back to Canada from Czcehia. He was arrested without incident at Pearson International Airport later that day.  

Hamilton Police Service would like to thank our law enforcement partners for their assistance with this case, as it relates to the youth accused who fled to Czechia.  This includes Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), RCMP Interpol services, Global Affairs Canada and the Peel Regional Police Service.

The youth had a brief court appearance and has been remanded into custody. 

The cause of death is not being released as it remains evidence. Given the age of the suspects and the fact the case is before the courts, additional information will not be shared.

Hamilton Police are investigating a homicide after a 23-year-old male was killed on Morris Avenue in Hamilton.

On December 11, 2022 at 8:12 p.m., Hamilton Police and Hamilton Paramedic Service responded to reports of a shooting. First responders arrived on scene to find the victim in the middle of the roadway with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim is 23-year-old Everton Frost from Hamilton. 

At this time, investigators are still trying to determine the events surrounding Everton’s death but believe the incident was targeted.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 42-year-old female in connection with the murder of 38-year-old Danielle Strauss of Hamilton. She is the second adult arrested in the case. 

On Thursday, November 10, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police responded to 195 Ferguson Avenue North in Hamilton for reports of a deceased 38-year-old female who was found in her apartment. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene. Police believe Danielle died late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

Today, a 42-year-old female was charged with accessory after the fact of murder in relation to the Strauss homicide. This charge is relation to the 16-year-old male youth currently in custody. 
The Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) prohibits the investigators from releasing her name as it may lead to the identity of one of the youths charged with 2nd degree murder. The accused will make a brief court appearance tomorrow morning at the John Sopinka Courthouse. 

Detectives continue to investigate those who may have assisted the youth involved in this murder. 

The cause of death is not being released as it remains evidence. Given the age of the suspects and the fact the case is before the courts, additional information will not be released.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 40-year-old female in connection with the murder of 38-year-old Danielle Strauss of Hamilton. 

On Thursday, November 10, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police responded to 195 Ferguson Avenue North in Hamilton for reports of a deceased 38-year-old female who was found in her apartment. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene. Police believe Danielle died late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. 

Today, a 40-year-old female was charged with accessory after the fact of murder in relation to the Strauss homicide. The YCJA prohibits the investigators from releasing her name as it may lead to the identity of one of the youths charged with 2nd degree murder. The accused will make a brief court appearance tomorrow morning at the John Sopinka Courthouse. 

Detectives continue to investigate those who may have assisted the youth involved in this murder. 

The cause of death is not being released as it remains evidence. Given the age of the suspects and the fact the case is before the courts, additional information will not be released.
