Police have arrested a 25-year-old male for three counts of Mischief Under $5,000.

The accused was observed writing the tag “Ducer” 16 times within a 20-minute timeframe on buildings, bus shelters and city/ hydro poles in the area of Main Street East and Sherman Avenue in Hamilton yesterday morning.

On Wednesday, July 28, 2022, shortly before 9:30 a.m., police were called to the area of Main Street East to check on a male performing graffiti on various locations. When police arrived they noticed a male fitting the description walking. The male saw police and fled. Police pursued the suspect and he was placed under arrest for Mischief Under $5,000. During the search police located evidence consistent with Mischief in his possession.

Charges:

·         Three Counts of Mischief Under $5000

·         Fail to Comply Probation

Graffiti is any writings or drawings on a surface placed there without authorization of the owner of the object on which it was written. Graffiti is an act of vandalism and it places a significant burden on the City of Hamilton.  It increases the fear of crime in the area and requires a large amount of money to eradicate.

How to Report Graffiti

If your property or business is marked by graffiti, remove it as soon as possible.  The quick removal of graffiti is the most effective means to prevent further acts of vandalism.

Report existing graffiti by calling 905-546-2489 or online at www.hamilton.ca/graffitiform.  Please be as specific as possible in the location and description of the graffiti.  Incidents of graffiti will be prioritized and ones that are considered harmful to the community will be immediately removed.

Property owners are responsible for removing graffiti from their own property as per City By-law.
