On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, the victim, a 94-year-old man of Hamilton, began receiving phone calls from a male impersonating an RCMP police officer. The victim was told that his grandson was arrested for having a large quantity of drugs in his vehicle and was in police custody. The scammer then demanded the victim pay a $120,000 bond to release his grandson.

Another male, posing as the victim’s grandson, came on the phone franticly pleading with the victim to pay the bond, so that he could be released from police custody. Worried about his grandson, the victim agreed to pay a portion of the demanded bond money, as it was all he had at the time.

The monetary losses sustained were minimized by the financial institution that stepped in when the victim attempted to obtain money from their account.

Later that same day, a female playing the role of a court courier, attended the victim’s residence and collected the money. The victim was advised there was a court imposed ‘gag order’, and he was not permitted to notify anyone of what happened or his grandson would remain in prison.

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, the victim received more phone calls from the suspects demanding the remainder of the bond money. The suspects directed the victim to place the money in an envelope at an undisclosed location. At this point, the victim became suspicious and notified the Hamilton Police Service

 Hamilton Police have arrested two males for the following charges:

Police are seeking at least one additional suspect, believed to be a female, for their involvement in this crime.

The public is reminded that it is not the practice of any police service to collect money for court purposes.

On Friday, November 1, 2019, shortly before 3:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to reports of a disturbance at a residence in the area of Congress Court and Mount Albion Road. Initial information provided to police noted a physical altercation and a male yelling.

Once on scene, police observed a male exit the residence and when he realized the police were present he fled. Police issued instructions to stop running but the male continued as he attempted to remove items from the inside of his pants. After a short foot pursuit, the male was caught by police. He was detained while police investigated the disturbance. During that time, police identified the male was in possession of a black satchel which contained illicit drugs and a large sum of cash.

The male was placed under arrest for the possession of the drugs. He was taken into police custody where further investigation revealed he was bound by a court order. His arrest signified a violation of the order.

The male was held for a bail hearing. He appeared in court earlier today to answer to the charges of trafficking heroin, possession of proceeds of crime and fail to comply with a court order.

The illicit drugs and cash were seized as evidence.

Police were able to locate signs of a disturbance in the area of the residence; however, there were no complainants.

While on proactive patrol a Hamilton Police officer noted a driver operating his vehicle without his seat belt activated. A traffic stop resulted in police locating a firearm, ammunition, drugs and cash. The male was taken into police custody and appeared in court today.

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Hamilton Police observed a red Honda Civic operating on Main Street East near Tisdale Street South. At the time the driver was not wearing his seatbelt. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was unable to produce the appropriate documentation. Through investigation, police learned the information provided by the driver was incorrect. He was placed under arrested and taken into police custody.

A search of the driver revealed he was in possession of illicit drugs, Canadian currency and personal identification. In accordance with the law, the immediate area around the driver’s seat was searched and a .357 Magnum handgun, ammunition as well as additional drugs were located.

An investigation into the driver’s identity confirmed his arrest was in violation of two court orders and the existence of an outstanding warrant of arrest in Quebec.

The driver was taken into custody and appeared in court today to answer to numerous criminal charges.
