On Friday, May 12, 2023, shortly before 7:00p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the intersection of Upper Wentworth and Stone Church Road East, after a Honda motorcycle travelling northbound collided with a Chevrolet van travelling southbound on Upper Wentworth.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 33-year-old Hamilton man, was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 49-year-old Hamilton woman, was also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Hamilton Police have charged the 49-year-old Hamilton woman with Careless Driving Causing Death under the Highway Traffic Act.

On Thursday April 13, 2023, shortly after 9:30p.m., a Yamaha motorcycle was northbound on Upper James Street approaching Twenty Road.  The motorcycle, carrying a driver and a passenger, collided with a southbound Toyota SUV.

The passenger was thrown from the motorcycle and later pronounced dead in hospital.  The motorcycle driver was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV was treated in hospital before being released.

Hamilton Police investigation uncovered evidence of a third vehicle involved in the collision and have now identified the driver.

The driver of the third vehicle, a 44-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with Fail to Remain Cause Bodily Harm under the Criminal Code of Canada.

The 44-year-old Hamilton man will be appearing in court on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, shortly after 2:20p.m., Hamilton Police along with emergency partners responded for a motor vehicle collision involving a Suzuki motorcycle and a Ford commercial van at the intersection of Main Street East & Province Street South in the city’s east end.

An 18-year-old Hamilton man was riding westbound on Main Street, when he collided with a southbound commercial van being driven by a 36-year-old male from Barrie, Ontario. The motorcyclist was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Due to the severity of these injuries, the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was called out and has taken carriage of the investigation.

Investigators have yet to rule out any factor in this ongoing investigation.

On Tuesday, June 1, 2021, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Hamilton Police and emergency service partners responded for a single motor vehicle collision involving a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle on Regional Road 20 in the City of Hamilton.

A 26-year-old male from Hamilton was riding westbound near Fifth Road East, when for reasons not known, he left the roadway hit a culvert and was thrown from the motorcycle. The male was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Due to the severity of the injuries to the rider, the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was called in and has taken carriage of the investigation.

Rider impairment has been ruled out, but all other factors are being investigated.

On Monday, May 17, 2021, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Hamilton Police and Hamilton Paramedics responded to Limeridge Road East, just west of Upper Kenilworth Avenue in the City of Hamilton for a motor vehicle collision between a yellow 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle and grey 2020 Hyundai Sonata.

Preliminary information indicates that a grey 2020 Hyundai Sonata was travelling eastbound on Limeridge Road East and began to conduct a U-Turn. The male motorcycle driver then struck the driver’s side of the Hyundai and the motorcyclist became wedged under the vehicle. The Hyundai driver completed a U-Turn and continued westbound 100 metres with the motorcyclist dragging under the vehicle.

The driver and possible passengers of the Hyundai exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

Hamilton Paramedics, Hamilton Fire and Hamilton Police responded to the collision and the victim was pronounced dead on scene. Investigation is being conducted by the Collision Reconstruction Unit and Mountain Station Detectives.

Police have yet to learn the identity of the motorcyclist or the Hyundai vehicle driver and possible passengers.

Speed and driver impairment have not yet been ruled out as factors involved in the investigation.

On Monday, August 3rd, 2020, shortly after 1:00 am., a motorcycle travelling southbound on West 5th lost control just past Brantdale Ave, Hamilton. The rider, a 21-year-old male from Hamilton was operating a 2006 Honda motorcycle. When the rider lost control he mounted the curb and made contact with a pole. The impact caused fatal injuries.

The intersection was closed for several hours as officers processed the scene.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this collision and at this time investigators have ruled out speed and impairment as factors.

On Sunday, October 6, 2019, shortly after 8:30 p.m., Hamilton Police received information about a motorcycle collision at Barton Street East and Emerald Street North. Once on scene, police located the male rider with obvious injuries to his lower body and head. The rider, a 40-year-old male from Hamilton was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police identified witnesses and through investigation it was leaned the motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Baron Street when the rider lost control and struck the centre median. He was subsequently thrown from the motorcycle. The scene was held until an additional medical assessment was conducted. The rider’s injuries have been determined to be non-life-threatening.

Charges are not being laid in this incident.

The motorcycle sustained major damage and was removed from the scene.

On Thursday, August 9, 2019, at approximatley 3:00 p.m., Hamilton Police Officers observed two males exit a vehicle which had just parked beside a motorcycle in the area of Catherine Street North and Murray Street. After exiting the vehicle one of the males started the motorcycle with a vice grip. Observing this suspicious activity police subsequently detained the two males and began an investigation. As a result, one of the males was arrested for an outstanding warrant and police learned the motorcycle was stolen. The second male was arrested for possession of the stolen property.

The investigation led to the seizure of one (1) kilogram of Methamphetamine and a quantity of Cocaine. As a result of the investigation, police have charged a total of four people with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and proceeds of crime. They were all taken into police custody and held for a bail hearing.

The investigation remains open as police continue to review the evidence seized and additional charges could be laid at a later date.

On Tuesday, July 23, 2019, shortly before midnight, police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Industrial Drive near Gage Avenue North, Hamilton.

A black 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling westbound on Industrial Drive at a high rate of speed when it exited the roadway and collided with a rock face located along the north side of the road.

The 25-year-old male rider from Hamilton was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. He was transported to the hospital where his death was pronounced.

A postmortem is scheduled for this morning.

Police have not ruled out any contributing factors to the collision.

On Sunday, December 2, 2018, at approximately 11:30 a.m., emergency response units from police, fire and paramedics attended a collision at the intersection of Mohawk Road East and Lawfield Drive, involving a Volkswagen Golf and a motorcycle. Information provided to police described the motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed as it entered the intersection on Mohawk Road from Upper Sherman Avenue. The motorcycle then collided with the Volkswagen as it initiated a turn from Lawfield Drive onto Mohawk Road. The rider was thrown from his ride, landing on the roadway. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The two occupants of the Volkswagen, a 24-year-old male driver and the 22-year-old female passenger were both medically treated and cleared on scene. They cooperated with police during the investigation.

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit has conducted an extensive investigation while the rider continued to receive medical treatment. On Sunday, May 26, he was arrested at Hamilton Police Central Station, taken into custody and appeared in bail court later that day.
