Hamilton Police continue to investigate the murder of Randy Peardon and announce the arrest of 23-year-old Alexander La from Hamilton, in connection with this homicide. La, who remains in custody on other charges, was charged today with second-degree murder. The cause of death has been confirmed as multiple gunshot wounds.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, Hamilton Police were called to 100 Connaught Avenue for reports of a deceased male. The scene was secured, and the Homicide Unit commenced an investigation. An autopsy confirmed that Peardon's death was a homicide. Peardon lived in the area but did not reside at the address where he was found.

While we have a clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding the murder, investigators continue to examine the events that followed. On the morning of Monday, November 27, Hamilton Police responded to reports of a stabbing in the area of Park Avenue North and York Boulevard, arriving at the scene shortly after 8:30 a.m. 

Following police response to the incident,  Nathan Kanis-Lynch, a 25-year-old individual, was subsequently arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of a 52-year-old man from Hamilton. Mr. Kanis-Lynch remains in custody.

To respect the privacy of the victim and their family, no information about the deceased will be disclosed at this time.

On Friday, March 24, 2023, shortly before 4:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to the area of Sanford Avenue North and Acorn Street for a shooting that had just occurred. Robert Barberstock, a 53-year-old Hamilton man, was found deceased inside a residence by gunshot wound.

Through investigation, it was learned that a suspect involved in the shooting of Robert Barberstock also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., Hamilton Police and emergency services attended the Red Rose Motel located at 553 Queenston Road, for a man with a life threatening leg injury. Investigation revealed that the injury to the leg did not occur at the motel. 

Hamilton Police have arrested, Luke Willems, a 38-year-old man of Hamilton for First Degree Murder charges.

Hamilton Police Service and York Regional Police continue to seek the public’s assistance in locating wanted person Daniel Tomassetti in relation to two homicides.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017, Mila Barberi was shot and killed as she stood by her vehicle in the parking lot in Vaughan, Ontario.  Her boyfriend was also shot and survived. Her murder was linked to Angelo Musitano, who was shot and killed in Waterdown Ontario on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.  

The linkage resulted in a multi-jurisdictional investigation between Hamilton Police, York Regional Police and the Hamilton-Niagara detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. As a result of the investigation, dubbed Project SCOPA, an arrest warrant was sought for Daniel Tomassetti in connection with these murders and attempt murder.

The Hamilton Police Service Board has a $50,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Daniel Tomassetti. On Thursday, November 22, 2018, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Marko (Mark) Bakir was shot to death on his own driveway at an address on Clifton Downs Road in the City of Hamilton.  Police have continually investigated Marko's murder for nearly four years.

Today, the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit is announcing the arrest of, 43-year-old, Mark Buzzelli of Hamilton, for his role in the murder of Mark Bakir.  Buzzelli was arrested without incident at a business in Burlington, Ontario.

Buzzelli has been charged with Accessory after the fact of murder.

Buzzelli will have a brief court appearance today at the John Sopinka Courthouse.

On Sunday, August 7, 2022, police received information that a number of emails had been sent to a variety of media outlets with information related to a deceased person. 

Based on the information, police attended a residence at 175 Catherine Street South and located a deceased male in his 60s. The male had injuries consistent with foul play and the case was deemed a homicide. 

At this time, a positive identification has not been made of the deceased due to the level of decomposition. Investigators have been in contact with family members related to the apartment's occupant and they are aware of the ongoing investigation. 

An autopsy will be performed in the coming days and additional steps taken to identify the deceased.

Police have charged 41-year-old Jonathan Lewis with 2nd degree murder. Police are not seeking additional suspects and believe this was an isolated incident. There will be continued police presence in the area of 175 Catherine Street South for the next couple of days while investigators process the scene.

On Sunday, March 6, 2022, shortly before 6:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to the area of Tisdale Street South and Erie Avenue after reports of a male victim thrown from a black BMW.

He was lying on the road suffering from a gunshot wound.

The male was later identified as 39-year-old Shane Grenier of Hamilton.

Today, the Hamilton Police announce the following arrests:

Owen Nathaniel Silverthorne (21-years-of-age, Hamilton)

Janeil Gordon (21-years-of-age, Hamilton)

·         Second Degree Murder

Both Silverthorne and Gordon have been remanded into custody.

Hamilton Police make an arrest in the 2018 Homicide investigation into the death of Marko Bakir.  

On Thursday November 22nd, 2018, at approximately 8:15 pm, Marko (Mark) Bakir was shot to death on his own driveway at an address on Clifton Downs Road in the City of Hamilton.  Police have continually investigated Marko's murder for nearly four years.

Today, the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit is announcing the arrest of 28 year old Alessandro Giammichele of Hamilton for the 1^st degree murder of Marko Bakir.  Giammichele was also known as “Gino” and “Sandro”.

Giammichele was arrested by Hamilton homicide detectives in the City of Thunder Bay on May 18^th, 2022 without incident.  Giammichele is formally from the City of Hamilton.

Giammichele had a brief court appearance via video link in Thunder Bay and has since been remanded into custody in Thunder Bay.

25-year-old, Abdelaziz Ibrahim of Hamilton will also be charged with the 1^st degree murder of Marko Bakir. Ibrahim is currently in custody on unrelated matters.

The Hamilton Police Major Crime Unit has issued a warrant for the arrest of a 40-year-old man of Hamilton.

On Sunday, July 18, 2021, at approximately 9:46a.m., Christopher La Rose was stabbed during an altercation at a motel on Queenston Road in the City of Hamilton. La Rose was found a short distance away and died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Hamilton Police have now issued a warrant for the arrest of 40-year-old, Myles Blackburn of Hamilton for First Degree Murder. Blackburn is described as being 6’4” and approximately 190 lbs. The weapon used in this attack has not been recovered and Blackburn should be considered dangerous. If seen, members of the public are encouraged not to approach him and call 911 immediately.

On Friday, June 25, 2021 shortly after 10:30 a.m. Hamilton Police responded to the area of Victoria Avenue South and Young Street in Hamilton. A 38-year-old male was located in a wooded area and pronounced deceased on scene.

The death was suspicious and the Hamilton Police Major Crime Unit assumed the investigation. The deceased has been identified as Jed Anger Junior a 38-year-old man of Hamilton. 

A postmortem was able to determine the cause of death, however the manner of death was unable to be determined.

Through continued investigation the Major Crime Unit has learned there was an altercation between Jed and two people in the wooded area that resulted in the Jed's death.

Now that charges are before the courts, investigators will not discuss evidence as it pertains to the case.

This was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public.

The Major Crime Unit is not looking for any more suspects.

On Monday, March 2, 2020, Giorgio Barresi was shot and killed in the driveway of his residence while his wife and children were inside their home.

The suspects arrived in a light coloured sedan and parked at the end of his street, waited for Giorgio to return home before a lone gunman approached and murdered him. The suspects fled in the sedan to a nearby highway quickly fleeing the area before police arrived.

The murder of Giorgio was planned. It is believed that the suspects were aware of his habits and routines which afforded the opportunity to confront Giorgio at his residence that night.

Investigators believe that the actions of these suspects indicate that there are people within our community who know what happened to Giorgio that night and the events that led up to his murder.

Investigators are hopeful that the $50,000 reward will stimulate further leads and motivate individuals with knowledge about this murder to come forward.

Giorgio Barresi was a father of three children who he loved dearly and is now no longer here to witness their beautiful milestones.

Based on information Police believe, 28-year-old Oliver Karafa and 25-year-old Yun (Lucy) Lu LI boarded a flight from Canada to Eastern Europe approximately 24 hours after the murder of Tyler Pratt and the attempted murder of the second victim.

Police believe that Karafa and Li are aware that they are wanted in relation to the incident and are actively evading police.

Oliver and Lucy if you are seeing this we encourage you to turn yourself in. Hamilton Police are working closely with international authorities and we are positive that our investigation will lead to your whereabouts. We will continue to relentlessly pursue you.

Hamilton Police have made an arrest in the murder of David Stevens. Stevens was killed in his apartment in January.

Around 11.30 p.m., on January 29, 2020, 46-year-old David Stevens was on his laptop inside his apartment at 21 Harvey Street, Hamilton, when he was shot through his door. When Hamilton Paramedic Service arrived minutes later, he was unresponsive and taken to the Hamilton General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have now charged 23-year-old Shajjad Idrish of Stoney Creek with First Degree murder in the killing of David Stevens. Idrish appeared by video in court this morning at the John Sopinka Court House and was remanded into custody.

Shajjad Idrish was arrested by Brantford Police Service on February 14, 2020, for the murder of Jason Kossatz, and the Attempted Murder of two other persons that occurred on February 8, 2020, at the Galaxy Motel on Colborne Street in Brantford. Idrish has been in custody since his arrest by Brantford Police Service.

In the David Stevens murder, three individuals were observed on video kicking in the front door of the Harvey Street rooming house. All three entered the residence and were seen running out again 30 seconds later. It was during this time that David was fatally shot.

The three individuals then fled in a silver or grey coloured, Chevrolet Cruze, 2015 model or older, four-door with no sunroof which was captured on video accelerating from the scene.

Major Crime investigators believe they have identified the other two males who were with Idrish when David Stevens was killed. None of these individuals were known to David Stevens.

The investigation revealed that the three males attended 21 Harvey Street to settle an ongoing dispute between Idrish and one of the other occupants in the seven apartment rooming house. David Stevens was not the intended target of the shooting. Several tenants have since moved out of the rooming house, including the intended target.

Only one weapon was fired inside 21 Harvey Street and that gun has not been recovered.

On March 6, 2020, a 19-year-old male from Hamilton was arrested for the murder of David Stevens. This male was released unconditionally after being interviewed by police. He remains a suspect in the ongoing investigation.

On April 30, 2020, Major Crime investigators interviewed a 20-year-old male from Hamilton. He is believed to be the third person who entered the Harvey Street residence when David Stevens was killed. This individual was informed of his status in the case.

Investigators recommended that the aforementioned 19 and 20-year-old males seek legal advice as to their status, in this case, may change as the investigation continues and further evidence is anticipated to be unveiled.

Police are still looking for the silver or grey Chevrolet Cruze pictured below. This vehicle is likely an outstanding stolen vehicle from Brantford which was stolen on the night of the murder and was bearing Ontario licence plate BKXP 727. Anyone who observes this vehicle or has knowledge of its whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.

UPDATE #2: Arrest Made in the Gladys Little Homicide

About 9.20am on Sunday 24^th May 2020 Hamilton Police received information from staff at a local shelter that Larissa Shingebis was staying there.

Uniform members immediately responded to the shelter where they located Shingebis and arrested her without incident for the First Degree murder of Gladys Little.

Shingebis was transported to Central Police Station where she is to be interviewed. She will be formally charged with the murder on Monday morning.

Investigators wish to acknowledge the assistance of the local media in disseminating Larissa Shingebis’ image and letting the community know of her wanted status in this random killing. Police also wish to thank the staff at the shelter for notifying of Shingebis’ whereabouts allowing her to be apprehended in short notice.

Gladys Little’s family have been notified of the arrest which has provided them with some conciliation that their mother’s killer is no longer a threat to anyone else.
