The protest, marked by road blockages, scattered debris, and a burning steel drum, prompted a thorough investigation by the Hamilton Police. The following individuals have been charged in connection with the incident:

1.    Patricia Rae Mills, 39-year-old female from Hamilton

2.    Sahra Abib Soudi, 26-year-old female from Hamilton

·         Charges:

·         Mischief Under $5,000

·         Disguise with Intent

3.    Victoria Maria Wojciechowska, 27-year-old female from Hamilton

·         Charges:

·         Mischief Under $5,000

·         Disguise with Intent

On Thursday, May 26, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Premier Doug Ford attended the airport on a campaign stop. A protest subsequently formed outside the premises and eventually moved onto private property, blocking the road to the Cargojet facility. The protesters were asked to move off the roadway. All individuals complied but one individual refused to move and was arrested.

The individual was transported off the property and immediately released with a ticket for Trespass to Property.

The protest continued to operate peacefully off private property for the remainder of the campaign rally.

A 38-year-old male from King City was arrested for failure to comply with a court-imposed release order and was held in custody pending a bail hearing. The male has since been released. A 39-year-old female from Brampton was also arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant and has since been released from custody.

The individuals both face charges under the Reopening of Ontario Act for organizing an event that exceeds the number permitted under the legislation.

On Sunday, May 16, 2021, a Hugs Over Mask event took place in the area of Hamilton City Hall with over 20 in attendance. Later in the day, a pro-Palestine protest took place at Hamilton City Hall with nearly 1,000 individuals in attendance.

At both events, the number of attendees exceeded the number permitted for an outdoor gathering. Eight individuals were charged at the Hugs Over Mask protest and 12 at the pro-Palestine event. In addition, two organizers of the pro-Palestine event were charged under the Reopening Ontario Act.

Due to the large crowds present at the pro-Palestine event, police will continue to review the incident in the coming days and may lay further charges.

On Sunday, April 18, 2021 a Hugs Over Masks event took place in the area of Bay Street South and Main Street with over 45 in attendance.

Both events were protesting the current COVID-19 restrictions and the majority of individuals were not wearing a mask or face covering. At both events, the number of attendees exceeded the number permitted for an outdoor gathering.

The organizers were present at both events.

On Sunday, February 7, 2021 at approximately 12:00 p.m., Hugs Over Mask protesters attended the forecourt of City Hall to protest current COVID restrictions.

All individuals involved were not wearing a face covering.

The City of Hamilton By-Law Enforcement and Hamilton Police attended the event and confirmed that the individuals were in violation.

On January 19, 2021, around 5:00 p.m., a group of 18 individuals assembled at City Hall. The group were not wearing masks or social distancing and refused to disperse when requested. Made up of individuals from across Ontario, the group has held similar events in other jurisdictions and has planned further demonstrations in Woodstock and London.

Fourteen adults were issued tickets under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act section 7.0.11(1), which carries a fine of $880. None of the individuals who received tickets were homeless.

Hamilton Police have laid 27 charges since the stay-at-home order came into effect on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Hamilton residents have been largely compliant with the current restrictions.

On January 3, 2021 there were over 40 in attendance and on January 10, 2021 there were over 60 in attendance.

Prior to the event on January 10, 2021, Hamilton Police identified the organizers and informed them that the planned gathering would be breaching offences under the Reopening Ontario Act and that charges would apply. The organizers went ahead with the event.

The Hamilton Police Service attended both events and confirmed that the number of attendees exceeded the number permitted for an outdoor gathering. The organizers were present at both events.

A person convicted of this offence is liable to a minimum fine of $10,000.

On November 23, 2020, at approximately 12:00 noon the Defund The Police event began. During the course of the day, the number of participants in attendance ranged between 80-100 people in the forecourt at City Hall.

The City of Hamilton By-Law Enforcement and Hamilton Police Service attended the event and confirmed that the number of attendees exceeded the numbers permitted for an outdoor gathering. The organizer was present and identified. A 26-year-old female resident of Hamilton has been issued a Provincial Offences Act Summons for: 'Fail to comply with a continued section 7.0.2 order as per Ontario Regulation 364/20, of the Reopening Ontario Act, 2020, section 10.1(1). A person convicted of this offence is liable to a minimum fine of $10,000. She will appear in court on February 1, 2021.

On February 24, 2020, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Hamilton Police responded to reports of a number of people gathered on the rail tracks near the Bayview Junction. At its height, there were about 30 people in the area.

Hamilton Police respect everyone’s right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. The primary goal was to preserve peace and maintain a safe environment for everyone. Police used discretion to balance the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly while also upholding the law.

The protesters had been served with an injunction by CN Rail to leave the site late Monday evening. Hamilton Police established a dialogue with the protesters throughout the day and encouraged the protesters to abide by the injunction and peacefully leave the area.

The protesters packed up and left around 5:00 p.m.

The blockade resulted in cancellation of Metrolinx service at the West Harbour GO, Hamilton GO, St. Catharines GO and Niagara Falls GO stations, as well as affected CN and CP rail service. Hamilton Police would like to thank the public for their patience during the service disruption.

On February 24, 2020, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Hamilton Police responded to reports of a number of people gathered on the rail tracks near the Bayview Junction. The protesters blocked the railway resulting in cancellation of service at the West Harbour GO, Hamilton GO, St. Catharines GO and Niagara Falls GO stations.

Lickers was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of Tuesday, December 24, 2019.

Further, on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, Hamilton Police laid additional charges against Alaa Al Soufi. Mr Al Soufi was previously arrested and charged on October 23rd, 2019. These additional charges were as a result of witnesses coming forward and the review of further video evidence.

Charges: Assault Level One, Theft Under $5,000, Intimidation, Disguise with Intent

Al Soufi’s additional charges were laid at his scheduled court appearance.

In the middle of the park, away from the main Hamilton Pride festivities, officers located a large disturbance between two groups of individuals. Numerous people were engaged in a physical confrontation where several individuals received injuries. Police separated both groups and they were escorted off the property.

The following individual is facing two charges of Assault With a Weapon:

Christopher Vanderweide, 27, from Kitchener

His bail has been opposed.

This marks the fourth individual charged related to the altercation in Gage Park. This includes one individual who was arrested for a parole violation for participating in a public demonstation where peace was disrupted and two individuals who turned themselves into police as a result of breaching probation for participating in a demonstration that was not peaceful.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate the events at Hamilton’s Pride celebration. Police continue to encourage victims and witnesses to come forward to further the investigation, with the possibility of laying additional charges.
