As the new school year approaches, Hamilton Police Service is proud to announce the launch of the "Fill the Pack" Back to School Backpack Initiative. We invite all citizens to join us in making a positive impact on the lives of students in need by donating new backpacks and school supplies.

From July 15 to August 25, donations can be dropped off at any Hamilton Police Service station. All collected items will be distributed to students who need them most, ensuring they start the school year equipped and ready to learn.

Donation Drop-Off Locations:

• Division One, 155 King William Street, Hamilton
• Division Two, 2825 King Street East, Hamilton
• Division Three, 400 Rymal Road East, Hamilton

Items Needed: New backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, erasers, binders, and other essential school supplies

Donation Period: July 15 - August 25

The incident, believed to have occurred on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, involved breaking fourteen windows on the outside of the school, resulting in damages totaling over $10,000. Police have confirmed that the damage was caused by an air gun, also known as a BB gun, pellet gun, spring gun or air soft gun.

Investigators are asking residents, students, parents, and business owners in the area to review their security camera footage from 9:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 for suitable footage that may be related to this investigation.

Hamilton Police are currently investigating a suspicious circumstance in area of W.H. Ballard Public Elementary School.

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police attended the area of WH Ballard Public Elementary School, located at 801 Dunsmure Road in Hamilton in response to a suspicious vehicle.

Information provided to police is a white male, approximately 60 years of age, short stocky build, with grey/white hair, beard, wearing a black t-shirt, driving a grey/silver Honda Ridgeline with dark tinted windows, black tires and rims, was approaching and talking to young children. The male was reported to be asking children it they wanted a ride to go get ice cream. 

Division Two Criminal Investigations Branch is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking residents and businesses in the area to review their security cameras between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., for any suspicious activity and contact Police.

Detectives are also asking for anyone driving in the area at that time with dash cam footage to contact investigators.

On Friday, October 21, 2022, shortly before 10:00 a.m., Hamilton Police entered into an investigation after receiving reports that a student at Westdale Secondary School received threats involving a firearm.

Westdale Secondary School and schools in the area went into hold and secure until 12:00 p.m., at which point police brought the incident to a safe resolution.

Hamilton Police have arrested a 17-year-old male and currently the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Police continue to work on confirming the existence of a firearm.

The incidents occurred both on and off school property.

Hamilton Police were called shortly after 9:30 a.m., to Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School.

An investigation was entered into and as a result a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old female have been arrested for assault level one.

Several others incidents occurred and a 16-year-old female has been arrested for Utter threats and a 36-year-old female has been arrested for Cause Disturbance.  The adult female was not an employee of the school.

On Thursday, June 2, 2022, the Hamilton Police were notified of a bomb threat at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School. The threat indicated that a bomb would be detonated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022.  An investigation was entered into and as a result a 17-year-old male was identified as being responsible. 

On Monday, June 6, 2022, the male was arrested for Uttering Threats and Mischief under $5,000.

A 19-year-old male of Hamilton has been arrested after a threat at Westdale Secondary School. He was charged with Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm X2 and released on an undertaking.  Police expect to make more arrests in the coming days.

A 14-year-old female has been arrested after a threat at St. Jean de Brebeuf. She was charged with Mischief and released on an undertaking. Police expect to make more arrests in the coming days.

On November 26, 2019, shortly before 1:00 p.m., police attended St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton for a disturbance in the back parking lot. When police arrived they located a large crowd along with a mother standing by her vehicle.

Police learned the mother attended the school holding an expandable baton during a verbal dispute with a student holding a knife. The mother was upset about her child being involved in an earlier altercation off school property which had migrated back to the school parking lot. School officials were able to subdue the situation before anyone received injuries.

The police investigation identified that the two involved individuals were both responsible for threatening each other. The adult and youth were arrested and charged.

On Sunday, October 6, 2019, shortly after 10:00 p.m., the HWCDSB received a post on their twitter forum from a suspect who threatened an unspecified school. Hamilton Police Division three detectives initiated an investigation and with the assistance of the Technical Crime Unit, identified the author of the post.

A 16-year-old, Ancaster, male youth was arrested and charged on Monday evening. He was subsequently released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled for court on Friday, November 8, 2019.

On Monday, June 10, 2019, shortly after 12:30 p.m., Hamilton Police received information about a student in possession of a firearm at Westmount Secondary School, located at 39 Montcalm Drive. With the Lockdown protocol in effect, officers quickly responded and secured the area. During the investigation, police detained three male students and recovered a pellet gun.

The Lockdown was lifted at 1:05 p.m. and the school returned to its normal routine.

Police continue to investigate the incident.

Calls were made to the school two days in a row threatening staff and students. Hamilton Police searched the school and did not find anything to validate either threat.

Hamilton Police are confident the calls originated from the same source and were placed from outside the country to cause panic. There is no ongoing threat to the school community in relation to these calls.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. on October 29, 2018, police responded to Bishop Ryan located at 1824 Rymal Road East, after the school received two phone calls from an unknown male threatening to bring a weapon to school and harm staff and students. The school was placed in Lockdown.

After a lengthy search, the school was found to be safe and the Lockdown was lifted at 12:30 p.m. Hamilton Police did not find any evidence to support a valid threat.
