A 38-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested following a standoff, during which a handgun was involved.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, just after 11:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to an incident at an address near Mountain Avenue South and Maple Avenue in Stoney Creek, prompted by a reported sighting of a weapon.

Upon arrival in the area, officers were confronted by an individual pointing a firearm at them, prompting an immediate withdrawal. In response, the police established a containment perimeter to manage the situation, in which, roads were closed off and residents in the area were advised to remain within their homes, until the situation was made safe.

Following instructions from police, the occupants of the residence, identified as an adult male and an adult female, exited without incident and were subsequently arrested.

45-year-old male, Sean David Thorburn has been charged for the following offences;

• Breach of Firearm Regulation
• Two counts of Fail to Comply
• Forcible Confinement
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Point Firearm
• Possession Contrary to Order
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm- Loaded
• Possession of Prohibited Weapon
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000

Further investigation uncovered that Sean David Thorburn is presently wanted by both Medicine Hat Police Service and RCMP Detachment.

It was determined that the adult female was a victim in the situation and was released unconditionally.

During the execution of a search at the residence, police discovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun with four bullets in the magazine inside the home. Additionally, it was confirmed that the vehicle parked in the driveway, a white Ford F550, had been reported stolen from the Guelph Area. Subsequent search of the vehicle led to the finding of a stun gun.

Police located and arrested 38-year-old, Justin Mattina, who was believed to have been present in the residence before the arrival of the police.

Justin Mattina has been charged with three counts of Fail to Comply.

Over the last month, members of the Major Drug and Gangs Unit executed residential, vehicle and trailer search warrants resulting in a substantial quantity of suspected cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, codeine, and oxycodone pills. The estimated street value of the illicit drugs exceeds $156 thousand dollars.

In addition to the drug seizures, detectives located a handgun, prohibited extended magazine, prohibited weapons, and numerous rounds of ammunition. This highlights the multi-faceted approach taken by our investigators to address various aspects of criminal activity.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 3, 2023, a 32-year-old man was robbed of cash at gunpoint in the area of James Street North and Cannon Street West.  Hamilton Police Division One detectives continued the investigation, determined that it was a targeted attack and identified the suspect as a 43-year-old Hamilton man. 

Thomas Gordon Major was arrested without incident yesterday evening in possession of a loaded handgun and drugs.

Thomas Gordon Major has been charged with the following offences;

• Robbery with Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Possession of a Loaded Restricted Weapon
• Three Counts of Possession Contrary to Order
• Possession for the Purpose – Cocaine, Fentanyl & Methamphetamine

Thomas Gordon Major had his bail opposed and will be appearing in court today.

Hamilton Police seized drugs, weapons and arrested a 30-year-old man of Hamilton at Woodlands Park during proactive foot patrols to address ongoing community issues involving frequent drug overdoses and violent assaults.

On Friday, July 14, 2023, police were conducting foot patrols through Woodlands Park, when they observed a male in the distance carrying a hard case. Police began to walk in the direction of the male, who then placed the case behind a tent and left the area. Police searched the case and located a compound bow and 2 arrows, which were seized for public safety.

On Monday, July 17, 2023, police were conducting foot patrols at Woodlands Park, when they observed drug paraphernalia and drug residue near a group of individuals. As a result, police arrested Khadar Houssein Ibrahim, a 30-year-old man of Hamilton for the following charges:

• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Meth
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl
• Three Counts of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
• Two Counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order
• Seven Counts of Possession Contrary to Prohibition Order

During the arrest, police seized the following;

• 33.4 grams of meth
• 6.8 gram Fentanyl rock
• spring loaded expandable baton with a push button
• brass knuckles

Stolen automobile investigation leads to the seizure of illicit drugs, Canadian currency and more.

In the evening hours of Thursday, May 12, 2022, Hamilton Police executed a residential search warrant and arrested two suspects in relation to a stolen Lincoln SUV in the area of Rymal Road East and Upper Sherman Avenue.

Two adults were charged with property and drug related offences and were located at the residence. 

They remain in custody.

Police seized 13.2 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately $1.5 million dollars. The recovered stolen Lincoln SUV was valued at approximately $7,000.

Police also located and seized three replica firearms, multiple fraudulent vehicle plates and indicia of drug trafficking during the execution of the warrant.
