In the evening hours of Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Hamilton Police arrested two suspects in relation to a stolen auto investigation.  

Members of the Hamilton Police B.E.A.R unit located a stolen auto in the area of Fennell Ave East and Upper Gage Ave.  They followed the vehicle until they were able to safely arrest both occupants in the east end of the city.  During a search of the vehicle, police located a sawed off shotgun, and the upper receiver of an assault rifle style rifle.

Two adults were charged with property and firearm related offences. They remain in custody.

During Project Hot Wheels investigators made 33 arrests, laid 157 charges, executed five warrants, recovered 32 stolen vehicles, stolen property, three firearms, ammunition, $9,416.20 in Canadian Currency and seized approximately $93,000 in illicit drugs.

A total of $508,000 in stolen vehicles were recovered during Project Hot Wheels.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada estimates auto thefts cost Canadians close to $1 billion yearly, including $542 million for insurers to fix or replace stolen vehicles, $250 million in police, health care and court system costs and millions more for correctional services.

On November 4, 2021, at approximately 3:10 p.m. police received a call from the owner of a stolen 2018 GMC Terrain. The owner had spotted the vehicle and was following it near the area of King St and Gage Ave. The vehicle was heading up the Claremont access when police began following it. Police did not pursue the GMC but waited until more resources were in the area before attempting to stop the vehicle. Police tried to block the stolen truck on Fennell Avenue but the GMC hit a cruiser before mounting the sidewalk in front of Hillfield Strathallen College.

The four occupants fled the vehicle, with one of the individuals pointing a firearm at an officer. All four occupants were arrested after a brief foot pursuit. The gun was discarded during the chase but was eventually recovered by the Hamilton Police Service K9 Unit. The weapon was located under a vehicle by PSD Radar and was determined to be 4.5 mm BB gun. Hillfield Strathallen College was briefly placed into a Hold and Secure during the investigation.

Four youth were taken into custody and face the following charges:

On Sunday, April, 18, 2021 shortly before 5:00 p.m., Hamilton Police received notification of a stolen vehicle that was being monitored remotely, travelling on the Hamilton Mountain.

Police located the vehicle travelling westbound on Chippewa Road near Tyneside Road. Once the driver viewed police cruisers in the area, it began traveling dangerously and at high speeds. The stolen vehicle was remotely immobilized, which reduced the vehicle's ability to accelerate and avoid capture.

Police activated the cruiser emergency lights however the driver was not compliant. The stolen vehicle was successfully stopped. Multiple attempts were made verbally for the driver to exit the vehicle however they were disregarded.

The driver was removed from the vehicle and arrested without injury.

Minimal damage to the police vehicles.

The male was charged with several offences, and held in custody with his bail opposed.

The male also had two outstanding warrants with the Hamilton Police Service that were also executed.

Four youth have been charged in relation to a string of residential break and enters. The offenders allegedly entered homes, stole property including motor vehicles and then used the vehicles to commit other crimes.

During the month of July 2020, a series of nighttime residential entries occurred on the West Mountain of Hamilton and in the Meadowlands community. The suspects targeted homes where garage doors or side doors were left open or unlocked by the homeowner. After gaining entry into the residence, the suspects stole electronics, cash, jewellery and keys to the homeowner’s vehicle. The vehicles were then used to assist in committing other crimes. Often times the homeowners were asleep during the entry.

Detectives from the Mountain Division Criminal Investigations Bureau have reviewed the evidence gathered and linked four youth to the theft of nine vehicles and property valued in the thousands.

Search warrant applications for the residences of the youth were executed on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. The parties were arrested and appeared for bail hearings on Wednesday, August 26, to answer to a total of 38 criminal charges.

The stolen vehicles have been recovered.

Hamilton Police want to remind the public to conduct a final walk-thru to ensure they have secured their residence before retiring for the evening.

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, shortly after 1:00 p.m., a Hamilton Police officer on proactive patrol observed a white Volkswagen Jetta travelling southbound on James Street North at Wilson Street. At the time, the vehicles were operating in congested traffic and the occupants of the Jetta appeared to be concealing their identity from the officer. An investigation into the vehicle’s status revealed it was reported stolen with the keys on November 8, ’19. The Jetta continued onwards, out of the officer’s sight and a short time later the occupants of the Jetta were located walking in the area of Hughson Street North and Robert Street. They were arrested without incident for possession of stolen property. A search of the immediate area resulted in the recovery of the Jetta in a parking lot near Barton Street and Hughson Street North.

The occupants were taken into police custody. One male was held for a bail hearing on Sunday, November 17, 2019, while the other is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, December 20, 2019.

The Hamilton Police Service is reminding drivers not to leave their vehicles unattended with the keys in the ignition. A professional thief can steal a vehicle without keys within a minute. A rookie thief can steal a vehicle with the keys in the ignition within seconds.

Hamilton Police are looking for a stolen 2004 grey Ford F350 pick-up truck after the driver fled from police. Anyone with information about the vehicle’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Hamilton Police Service.

On Monday, October 28, 2019, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the owner of a grey 2004 Ford F350 pick-up truck recognized their vehicle was stolen from their residence in the area of Garth Street and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway.

On Tuesday, October 29, 2019, shortly before 10:30 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted police after observing the vehicle parked in a strip plaza in the area of Limeridge Road West and Kendale Court. At the time, the occupant of the vehicle was acting in a suspicious manner. Police attended the location; however, the vehicle sped off prior to an investigation. In an attempt to evade police, the vehicle mounted the curb and caused property damage to foliage and a fence. It travelled eastbound on the LINC and was last seen northbound on Upper Wentworth Street.

There were no reported injuries during the incident.

The Hamilton Police Service continues to investigate the incident and is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle. Drivers in the area at the time are asked to check their dash cameras for any images of the suspect vehicle.

On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, shortly after 10:30 p.m., a pizza delivery driver attended a residence in the area of Winona Road and Highway 8 for delivery. While standing at the doorway, he heard a noise, turned around and noted a male figure entering his vehicle and then immediately driving off. The keys to the vehicle a 2007 Mazda 3 sedan, were inside the cabin area at the time of the theft. The homeowner had not ordered the delivery.

On Friday, September 6, 2019, shortly before 4:00 a.m., Hamilton Police recovered the stolen auto.

On Thursday, September 5, 2019, shortly after 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Lockport Way and North Service Road for the report of a stolen auto. Once on scene, police spoke with the complainant who advised he was delivering a pizza to a residence. While standing at the doorway, he heard a noise, turned around and saw his vehicle being driven away. The keys to the vehicle a 2018 Hyundai Tuscon, were inside the cabin area at the time of the theft. The homeowner had not ordered the delivery.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate these two incidents and although they share some similarities, there is no evidence at this time to confirm they are related.

There is no guarantee in preventing crime; however, there are steps that can be taken to minimize the likeliness of becoming a victim. Hamilton Police are reminding vehicle owners and delivery drivers that the number one theft deterrent for an automobile is to remove the keys and lock the vehicle when left unattended.

On August 28, 2019, shortly before 6:00 a.m., police were dispatched to a Suspicious Person call in the parking of 1165 Fennell Avenue East in Hamilton.

Police were told that occupants sitting inside a black sedan and white cube van were parked in the rear lot and looking inside cars. Police located a male and female sleeping inside a black 2018 Acura. While the occupants slept, the officers confirmed the vehicle was stolen and positioned their cruiser to ensure the Acura could not leave. The male and female were escorted out of the vehicle and placed under arrest for possession of the stolen property. While Officers were performing the arrest, a white cube van parked close by started squealing its tires. The van then reversed and rammed the parked cruiser two times causing it to launch into a second cruiser. The cruiser sustained significant damage. The impact also shifted the cruiser's original placement, allowing the black car opportunity to be freed and a distraction from the initial arrest.

The male in the white van tried to escape in his vehicle but he was unable to do so. He was apprehended while trying to run from the scene. The male was placed under arrest for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Further investigation confirmed the driver had an outstanding warrant and registered as a suspended driver. The 2008 white Ford Econoline van was also recorded as stolen.

The male was transported to Central Custody where he was held for Bail.

Inside the motor vehicle, was a black, non-motorized wheelchair that belonged to the homeowner.

During Wednesday, July 17, at 10:30 p.m. and Thursday, July 18, at 8:30 a.m., a 2015 white Dodge Caravan was stolen while parked in front of the owner’s residence, located in the area of Edgemont Street South and King Street East.

On Thursday, July 18, 2019, shortly after 8:00 p.m., police received information about a white Dodge Caravan being driven erratically in the parking lot of 675 Upper James Street. The licence plate provided to police identified the van as being stolen. As the vehicle parked, two occupants a male and female exited and appeared to be unsteady on their feet as they entered the onsite department store.

Hamilton Police attended the area and located the male involved inside the store. He was arrested and during a search, he was found to be in possession of key a fob for the van, drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of Fentanyl.

Through investigation, police learned the male may have had a recent interaction with the Fentanyl. As a precaution, he was transported to the hospital for observation.

The male was subsequently released with two future court dates related to the criminal code offence of possession of stolen property over $5000 and the possession of illicit drugs. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, August 12 and Wednesday, August 28, 2019.

The registered owner was contacted and advised of the vehicle recovery.

On July 11, 2019, shortly after 3:30 a.m., police were conducting proactive patrol in the area of St. Jean de Brebeuf, (SJB) Catholic Secondary School on 200 Acadia Drive, Hamilton. When Police arrived they noticed a white 4-door sedan parked in the school’s rear parking lot. Police approached the suspicious vehicle and a male exited the car, running behind the school towards the power line field. During a search for the male, police witnessed the vehicle go mobile and quickly leave through the school driveway. A few minutes’ later the vehicle crashed into a school portable. The male was located with the assistance of K9 hiding in bushes behind the school.

Further investigation confirmed the vehicle had been stolen the night before from a Mountain residence and the youth was breaching an Undertaking.

The youth was arrested and charged held with his Bail opposed.

On Saturday, July 6, 2019, shortly after 7:30 p.m., police answered a trespasser call in an alleyway between Maplewood Avenue and Balsam Avenue South, Hamilton. When Police arrived they found a stolen Dodge Caravan parked with a male and female inside. The occupants tried to exit the vehicle but they were quickly placed under arrest. Police located a quantity of methamphetamine and counterfeit US currency in their possession as well as an altered .22 caliber rifle inside the stolen van.

The parties were transported to custody and now face multiple firearm and possession charges.

On Friday, June 21, 2019, shortly after 1:30 p.m., the owner of a 2015 Toyota Rav 4 SUV left his vehicle locked in the parking lot of 778 King Street. When he returned nearly an hour later, his vehicle was gone. He confirmed with the assistance of video surveillance, a lone male was seen pacing around the vehicle before gaining entry and driving off.

On Sunday, June 23, 2019, shortly after 9:00 a.m., police received information about a suspicious person in the area of Wentworth Street South and Delaware Avenue. Through investigation, police learned he was the suspect involved in the stolen Rav 4. The male at the time was in possession of a shopping cart that contained tools believed to be used to commit break and enter offences as well as possible stolen items. He was placed under arrest and taken into police custody.

A short time later the SUV was located in a nearby alleyway and returned to the owner.

The male was subsequently released and is scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Thursday, July 18, 2019, to answer to criminal charges.

On June 19, 2019, a Blue-Line Taxi driver called the police to report his 2011 Ford Crown Victoria had been stolen from the parking lot of 1952 King Street East in Hamilton between June 18, 2019, 8:30 p.m. and June 19, 2019, 10:00 a.m.

Around 8:00 p.m. on June 19, 2019, the taxi driver was in the area of Parkdale Avenue and Central Avenue when he observed his stolen vehicle driving through a survey. The owner located the vehicle stopped in front of an address on Reid Avenue and called Police for assistance.

Upon arrival, police found a male sitting in the driver’s seat of the stolen auto and he was placed under arrest for possession of the stolen property. During the investigation, there was evidence to charge the driver with impaired operation by drug. A search located drug paraphernal and a quantity of crystal meth.

The male was charged and held in custody with his bail opposed.

Stolen Licence Plates Recovered

On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, shortly before 5:00 a.m. an off-duty police officer came across an abandoned pick-up truck in the area of First Road and Regional Road 20. The vehicle had sustained heavy damage after leaving the roadway and rolling over several times. The occupants of the vehicle had fled the scene prior to police arrival. A K9 track was conducted; however, it met with negative results. Police have checked local hospitals and taxi services with the same results.

An investigation into the vehicle revealed the licence plates were reported stolen from the Dunnville area and the vehicle had been traded to an unidentified male from outside the Hamilton region. Several items of evidentiary value were located inside the vehicle and were seized.

After reviewing the evidence located at the scene, police believe the vehicle was travelling north on First Road from RR20 when the operator lost control, left the roadway and rolled into the ditch on the east side of First Road.

The licence plates have been returned to the Ministry of Transportation and the vehicle, a grey 2000 GMC Sierra has been seized by police.

Stolen Licence Plates Recovered

Shortly before 9:00 a.m. while on proactive patrol police observed a silver Volkswagen Passat in the area of Melrose Avenue North and Cannon Street East. The actions of the operator led the officer to conduct an investigation into the vehicle which resulted in revealing the licence plates had been reported stolen to Hamilton Police on May 25.

A traffic stop was conducted and the male driver and female passenger were arrested for possession of stolen property.

Through investigation, police identified the vehicle was registered to the female passenger and the driver had provided the stolen licence plates. His driver’s licence status was reviewed and he was confirmed to be a disqualified driver and one suspension.

Both parties were taken into police custody and released with a future court date of Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

The licence plates were returned to the Ministry of transportation.

Stolen Auto and Licence Plates Recovered

On Thursday, June 6, 2019, shortly after 2:30 a.m., police were in the area of 272 Kenilworth Avenue North proactively patrolling the area, known for drug activity. At that time a white 2013 Volkswagen Jetta was observed driving in an erratic manner. With the intent of investigating the driver, police approached the vehicle which was quickly parked in a lot at the corner of Kenilworth Avenue and Newlands Avenue. The driver then fled on foot and was not located.

An investigation into the vehicle’s history revealed it was reported stolen to Hamilton Police on Monday, June 3, 2019. It was and will be returned to the registered owner. The licence plates attached to the vehicle were not authorized and were also reported stolen. They were seized and returned to the Ministry of Transportation.

The investigation remains ongoing.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, shortly after 12:30 a.m. Hamilton Police observed a silver Ford Escape execute a right turn onto Wellington Street South from Main Street East while accelerating to a high rate of speed resulting in the tires squealing. An investigation into the status of the vehicle revealed it was reported stolen 10 days prior. A traffic stop was conducted in the area of Main Street West and Caroline Street South. The two male occupants were arrested without incident. An investigation into the two males revealed they were both bound by court orders and their arrest resulted in violations to conditions within the orders.

A search of the front cabin of the vehicle produced an undisclosed amount of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

The two males were advised of the charges related to court order violations and illicit drug possession. They were taken into police custody and held for a bail hearing. They are scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse later today.

The vehicle was secured by police and will be turned over to the registered owner.

On Sunday, May 5, 2019, shortly before 9:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of 14 Sinclair Court, Hamilton, for the report of a male slumped over the steering wheel of a motor vehicle after a citizen noticed the suspicious activity. 

Once on scene, police observed a male exit the vehicle from the driver’s seat. Inside the vehicle was a female passenger. A licence plate was on the front dash and a different licence plate on the rear. Through investigation, police learned the vehicle had been reported stolen by an outside police agency and the parties were arrested.

As police looked over the vehicle for the stolen auto recovery report they noted efforts to disguise the identity of the vehicle- tampering with the vehicle identification number. Additionally, one of the licence plates was also stolen but not yet reported.

A further search of the vehicle resulted in police locating a small quantity of a substance believed to Fentanyl-Heroin mixture and a small quantity of what is believed to be methamphetamine.

The couple was taken into police custody and searched. Several stolen items were again located.

An investigation into the male’s background revealed he was bound by a probation order and his arrest signified a violation.

The couple will appear in court today to answer to the charges.

The stolen auto was taken into police custody and the original police agency advised of the recovery.

On Saturday, March 9, 2019, shortly before 7:00 p.m., police responded to 657 Upper James Street for the report of a stolen pick-up truck. The owner advised he had parked his truck, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, locked the doors and removed the keys before he entered a store on the property. He returned a short time later to find an unknown male sitting in the driver’s seat. The male reversed the truck into another parked vehicle and drove away.

On Sunday, March 10, 2019, shortly after 3:00 a.m., police responded to a call for a truck abandoned in a ditch in the area of Airport Road and East Cargo Road. The truck was heavily damaged and the engine was running. At the same time, police received information about a male banging on the door of a residence in the area. Officers immediately responded and a male and female believed to be related to the truck were observed. The female was arrested without incident: however, the male attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, he was apprehended and arrested. A search of the male revealed he was in possession of fentanyl.

As the investigation continued police learned the vehicle had been involved in several collisions while being operated by the male. Additionally, the male’s driving privileges had been revoked by the Ministry of Transportation.

The female was subsequently released and the male was transported to police custody. He appeared in court on Sunday, March 10, to answer to several criminal offences.

The truck has been returned to the owner.

On Sunday, February 17, 2019, shortly before 8:00 a.m. police investigated an abandoned vehicle. A Chevrolet Sonic was located in the area of Concession 11 East and Lawson Park, Flamborough. The driver’s side window was ajar and the key was left in the ignition. The registered owner was contacted and they advised their vehicle was parked on their driveway. Police explained the reason for the call and the owner was surprised to hear the vehicle had been stolen. Through conversation, police learned the owner had parked the vehicle at her residence in Fergus shortly before midnight and had accidentally left the keys in the vehicle.

While waiting for the owner to attend the scene police were informed of two thefts, an automobile and a truck and trailer from two residences in the area.

On Sunday, February 17, 2019, at 11:30 p.m., the complainant parked his maroon coloured Hyundai Tucson on his driveway in the area of Concession 11 East and Lawson Park. He hid the keys in the vehicle and did not lock it.

He returned to find his vehicle had been stolen. It remains outstanding at this time.

On Sunday, February 17, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., the owner of a GMC pick-up truck and trailer realized his vehicles had been stolen as well from the same area. The night before at 8:00 p.m. the complainant last saw the vehicles, parked and unlocked on his property with the keys inside.

The red 2016 GMC Sierra pick-up truck and Gooseneck dual axle horse trailer remain outstanding at this time.

Hamilton Police are reminding vehicle owners the number one theft deterrent for an automobile is to remove the keys and lock the vehicle when left unattended.

On Thursday, January 31, 2019, shortly before 4:00 a.m., Hamilton Police observed a Grey Acura MDX SUV parked in a lot near the intersection of Greenaway Avenue and Wilson Street, Hamilton. An investigation into the vehicle’s status confirmed it had been reported stolen from the Mississauga area in November 2018. At the time, the vehicle was occupied by three individuals. Police learned a warrant of arrest existed for the individual in the driver’s seat, a 40-year-old Mississauga man. The three occupants were arrested and taken into police custody. They will appear in court on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, to answer to their charges. The driver remains in custody to be turned over to Peel Regional Police in relation to the outstanding warrant. The vehicle has been secured by police awaiting the owner.

On December 13, 2018, shortly after 8:00 a.m. the owner of a 2017 BMW reported that his vehicle had been stolen from his apartment parking lot on Cannon Street East, Hamilton. The owner contacted BMW assist program and they were able to engage the vehicle tracking system. The GPS confirmed his car was actively moving to different locations within the city. On December 17, 2018, shortly after 3:00 p.m., the BMW was located in the area of Tisdale Avenue South in Hamilton. When two identical white BMW’s were located parked side by side a coordinated police response was arranged. Police arrived and found two male suspects sitting inside the vehicles. Police confirmed it was the stolen 2017 BMW and located a second stolen 2014 BMW that was reported from Ancaster earlier that same day.

Police continued their investigation and remained in the area so they could identify two more males also involved in the thefts. Four males from Hamilton were arrested and charged.

On Monday, December 18, 2018, shortly after 9:00 p.m., the complainant attended the area of Purnell Drive and Clifton Downs Road, Hamilton to meet with an acquaintance. Once at the location the complainant realized the acquaintance was in the company of three unknown males. The parties were engaged in conversation inside the complainant’s vehicle and the complainant was subsequently threatened. The complainant fled the vehicle, leaving it running. The suspects left the area with the complainant’s car, a white 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer (AVLW784), his cell phone and a small amount of cash.

During the interaction, it is believed one of the males was in possession of a firearm.

The complainant was not injured and police do not believe this to be a random event.

The suspects are described as four males, darker in complexion.

Police are urging the public not to approach the vehicle if seen but to contact 911 immediately.

On November 2, 2018, shortly after 5:30 p.m., the owner of a 2007 KIA Sportage reported his vehicle had been stolen from his driveway on Garth Street, Hamilton.

On November 6, 2018, shortly after 2:30 a.m., the owner spotted his car in the parking lot of 675 Upper James with an unknown male inside. The vehicle went mobile, travelling to the area of 1 Hayden Street where he lost control and drove into the Mohawk Dental Office. The owner followed his stolen KIA and notified police. The suspect fled from the scene prior to police arrival.

There has been no report of any injuries. Police continue to investigate.

The City Building Inspector attended the location to investigate for any structural damage.

On Monday, September 24, 2018, shortly after 11:00 a.m., Hamilton Police were in the area of Queenston Road and Nash Road, Hamilton, when a suspicious vehicle was identified. The vehicle, a dark grey Dodge Caravan was observed by police as it entered a nearby plaza. The occupants of the vehicle exited and fled in an attempt to evade police. A short time later, police were able to locate the males and place them under arrest. One of the males was also in possession of a prohibited weapon, spring-loaded knife. Further investigation revealed the van had been reported stolen to Hamilton Police on September 20, 2018.

The males were scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, to answer to the following criminal charges:

On Wednesday, July 12, 2018, a representative for the owner of the car received a telephone call from an unidentified male. He informed the representative the car could be returned under the condition of no police involvement. An agreement was reached and earlier today the representative attended the area of Safari Road and Brock Road and located the vehicle.

Hamilton Police along with the owners of the vehicle are grateful for the assistance provided by the public and media broadcasting the offence which is believed to be integral in creating pressure for its return.

Hamilton Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a stolen 1926 Ford Model T car. This classic car is rare and has great sentimental value to the owner and his family.

On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Hamilton Police received information regarding the theft of a 1926 Ford Model T car that occurred in the Flamborough area. Between mid-March 2018 and June 20, 2018 the vehicle was stolen from a storage area. This Model T is green and black with wide whitewall tires and white spoke rims. The vehicle was likely transported by trailer.

On Monday, June 3, 2018, shortly before 11:00 p.m., a Hamilton Blue Line cab was stolen in the area of Fennel Avenue and Governors Boulevard. The cab was taken by the customer after a physical exchange with the driver. It was then driven in a dangerous manner, narrowly missing several parked vehicles on the way to Central Station, where it came to rest nearly striking the Hamilton Police Headquarters sign.

No injuries were incurred during the incident.

A 29-year-old man of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with Robbery, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Breach of Probation X4.

He will appear in court later today to answer to the charges.

On Thursday, January 4, 2018, shortly after 5:30 p.m., police investigated the theft of a rental vehicle that been left unlocked and running prior to being rented out to a customer. The incident was captured on video surveillance.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, shortly after 9:30 a.m., the stolen auto was observed by the rental agency employees operating on Main Street, east of Gage Avenue. Police were contacted and responded to the area but the driver had already abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers were able to locate and pursue the accused who was eventually captured and arrested.
