Investigators learned a lone, male suspect arrived at the financial institution on a bicycle, leaving the bike outside by the building. Entering the business, the suspect approached a bank teller, passed a note demanding cash and verbally threatened the employee while motioning they were in possession of a weapon. The suspect was confronted by other employees in the bank and the suspect fled empty handed. 

Upon exiting BMO bank, the suspect returned to his bicycle location only to discover a fellow delinquent had stolen his bike. The dazed and confused male then kicked their legs in high gear and escaped north on Upper Paradise Road…. on foot. The suspect was last seen near Upper Paradise Road and Elmwood Avenue.

The robbery suspect is described as the following:

• Wearing a long, multi-coloured scarf, black sunglasses, blue surgical mask, black jacket with fur trim, black gloves, dark pants, white shoes

The bike thief is described as the following:

Hamilton Police were made aware of a possible bike ‘Chop Shop’ operating out of an encampment located at the intersection of Main Street and King Street East, commonly referred to as the Delta. Citizens reported there were numerous bicycles believed to be stolen.  

Officers responded to the area and determined that the bicycles did not belong to encampment residents. While in the area, a citizen reported that someone had stolen the steel bicycle rack from a nearby McDonald's parking lot the night before. Officers went to McDonald's to return the bike rack and discovered that CCTV footage captured the theft. Police have identified the male responsible for the theft.

A 50-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with:

• Fail to Comply with Probation

Police seized eight bicycles from the location. Some of the bikes had been painted and/or dismantled, making identification of the bicycle owners difficult. Police would like to remind community members that the best way to ensure your property can be returned to you is to register bicycles through our online bike registry.

On average, 450 bicycles are stolen in Hamilton every year, and only four per cent are recovered. Only 30 per cent of recovered bicycles are returned to their owner because police often have a hard time matching the bicycle to its owner.

In December 2021, the Hamilton Police Break Enter and Robbery Unit began an investigation into the trafficking of stolen property through a Hamilton Pawn Shop. 

The investigation revealed that over $200,000 in stolen property has been trafficked through the pawn shop since 2018.

Police have arrested and charged an individual in relation to these crimes.

Strileski is held for a bail hearing and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Hamilton.

Investigators have identified seven local businesses as victims of crime. Police are continuing to work on locating other victims and return the property to their lawful owner.

On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, shortly after 0300p.m., Hamilton Police executed search warrants at a downtown address, after receiving information that it was the storage location for multiple stolen items.

On Monday, July 27, 2020, shortly before 1:30 p.m., Hamilton Police observed a white BMW sedan in front of a residence in the area of Wellington Street North and Wilson Street. At that time, two male occupants exited the vehicle and entered the residence. An investigation into the status of the vehicle revealed the licence plates were recently reported as stolen. A few moments later, one of the males returned to the vehicle, opened the trunk and removed another set of licence plates. He was arrested without incident, the second male noted the presence of police and fled back into the residence. During the search of the residence police located another male hiding. He was found to be in possession of an airsoft handgun and flare gun with active flares. He was arrested after police learned there was a warrant for his arrest. The male who fled into the residence was able to escape through a rear exit. Police continue to work on establishing his identity.

As police continued the investigation of the male at the BMW, they located evidence to support the trafficking of illicit drugs. The male was advised he would be facing additional drug-related charges.

The two males were taken into police custody and are scheduled to have their matter addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse later today.

A $300,000 John Deere Excavator went missing from a construction site near Highway 427 and Highway 7 on March 14, 2020. The excavator was located on March 16, 2020, sitting in plain view at the rear yard of a rural property on Middletown Road in Flamborough.

The discovery of the stolen John Deere prompted police to execute a search warrant at this Flamborough residence and business. During the search police located a large outbuilding and $1.3 million dollars’ worth of landscaping and construction type machinery on the property.

The stolen equipment was seized and returned to their rightful owners.

Hamilton Police has charged the owner of the property and landscaping business with possession of stolen property.

On February 12, 2020, a drug warrant was executed at a Grimsby address by the Vice and Drug Unit. Over a hundred thousand dollars’ worth of drugs was seized as well as $75,000.00 worth of stolen bikes and property from inside the home and exterior shed.

Since then, the B.E.A.R. Unit has been working to categorize the stolen merchandise and locate the owners. Individual photos of the items have been provided in hopes someone will recognize and call the police.

It is possible some of the recovered items are from the Niagara Region.

On Tuesday, December 24, 2019, Hamilton Police announced the conclusion of a two-month investigation into a high-end bicycle theft ring. The targets were residential and commercial properties in the Ancaster, Aldershot and Dundas areas. A public appeal was made for owners to contact the police and claim their property. To date, a substantial number of bicycles remain unclaimed.

Hamilton Police have cross-referenced the serial numbers on the bicycles with existing reports. Anyone who reported their bicycle lost or stolen and provided the corresponding serial number does not need to contact the police. Bicycles included in that scenario were returned to their owner.

At this time, police are releasing the remaining inventory details to assist with the process.

If you are the owner of any of these bicycles, you are asked to contact police by email and provide the serial number. Arrangements will then be made to claim the property.

On Thursday, December 19, 2019, members of the Hamilton Police Service Division 20 HEAT Unit, with assistance from the BEAR Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in the East End of Hamilton, Ontario. Information to support the search warrant application was gathered during a two month long investigation into the thefts of high-end bicycles from both residential and commercial properties in the Ancaster, Aldershot and Dundas areas.

As a result of the search warrant, the following items were located:

• 26 Mountain bikes valued at over $40,000
• Bike parts including rims, tires, forks, handlebars and seats
• Rossignol skis
• Prohibited weapons

On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, shortly before 6:30 a.m., Hamilton Police received information about a pick-up truck on a median near 1014 Main Street West.

Once on scene, officers located the driver asleep at the wheel with the vehicle in gear. At the time, police believed the driver's condition involved a level of impairment and he was arrested. A search was conducted and a quantity of crystal meth was located on the driver. As police searched the cabin area of the vehicle, damage to the ignition was observed along with the presence of burglary tools.

An investigation into the vehicle confirmed it was reported stolen on October 28, 2019.

The driver, a 22-year-old Stoney Creek male was taken into police custody. Further investigation, revealed his condition did not include any impairment. A background check identified an outstanding warrant for his arrest along with the fact he was bound by court orders. His arrest signified violations to those orders.

The male was held for a bail hearing and appeared at the John Sopinka Courthouse later in the day, to answer to several criminal charges.

The registered owner was made aware of the vehicle’s recovery.

Between Monday, September 23 and Monday, September 30, 2019, suspects broke into a commercial business located at 4351 Highway No 6, Glanbrook. Police believe the suspects removed equipment used for painting and chroming metals and likely sold them to unsuspected buyers on the property prior to the business owner’s knowledge of the illegal entry.

On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, shortly before 12:30 p.m., a Hamilton Police officer on proactive patrol observed a male repairing a bicycle at the corner of Victoria Avenue South and Main Street East, Hamilton. The officer recognized the male as a wanted party for failing to attend court. As the officer approached the male, he mounted the bicycle and rode off in an attempt to flee. The officer gave chase on foot and quickly caught the male, taking him to the ground. An altercation ensued as the male resisted. The male was eventually taken into police custody with the assistance of additional officers. A search of the male revealed he was in possession of a knife, which he attempted to access during the incident.

Through investigation, police learned the bicycle he was operating was reported stolen in June 2015. Hamilton Police would like to remind bicycle owners to record their serial number and report to police whenever their bicycle is lost or stolen. As a result of the owner taking those steps, police were able to identify the bicycle. Efforts will be made to locate the owner and return the bicycle.

A 24-year-old Hamilton man will appear in court today to answer to charges of assault resisting arrest, possession of stolen property under $5000 and the original charges related to his warrant.

On Wednesday, February 13, 2019, shortly after 8:30 a.m., police attended the area of Cumberland Avenue and Holton Avenue South for a suspicious vehicle. A concerned citizen contacted police to advise a beige Hummer SUV was occupied and parked with the motor running for several hours. Once on scene, police conducted an investigation into the status of the vehicle and learned it had been reported stolen from a Dundas area residence on February 11, 2019. A lone male occupant was observed in the driver’s seat and he was arrested for being in possession of stolen property. After identifying the male, police discovered he was bound by a court order for a similar offence.

The male was transported taken into police custody and appeared in court on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.

Hamilton Police recognize this type of cooperation with the community is key to making our city a safer place for everyone.

On Sunday, 6 January 2019, shortly before 6:30 p.m., Hamilton Police attended the area of Gage Avenue North at Beechwood Avenue, Hamilton, for a Fail to Remain Collision. It was believed a driver involved in the incident had fled to a nearby residence.

Once on scene, police observed the two vehicles involved; a grey Dodge Avenger and a white Honda Accord. The Accord appeared to have struck the Avenger- which was parked at the time-from behind. Both vehicles had sustained heavy damage. Witnesses directed police to a nearby residence where the driver was last seen entering.

Through investigation, police were able to locate the male walking away on a nearby street. He was arrested without incident. A search of him and the immediate area resulted in locating several items discarded by the male as he attempted to flee the scene. Police seized the items which included several credit cards, financial documents, automotive keys and personal items belongings to others.

Additional information obtained by police confirmed the male had an extensive court related driving history which included his driver’s licence being ‘Suspended for Life’.

The Honda Accord was reported stolen from out of town, prior to the collision and has been seized by police.

The driver was currently bound by a court order and as such he was held for a bail hearing to be heard today at the John Sopinka Courthouse.

On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, shortly before 11:00 am, Hamilton Police BEAR and East End HEAT units were in the area of Main Street and Arrowhead Lane, Grimsby Ontario, investigating stolen property and drug activity.

As a result of our investigation, Gabe Sciarra, a 38-year-old male, from Grimsby, was arrested while leaving his residence. He was found to be in possession of an undisclosed amount of drug paraphernalia, related to the sale of drugs inside his vehicle.

The investigation continued and a search warrant was executed on his residence. Police located a large quantity of stolen property including a stolen motorcycle along with drug paraphernalia and crystal meth.

Gabe Sciarra, 37 years, from Grimsby, appeared in court on Thursday, November 22, 2018, to answer to several criminal charges.

Shane Hicks was recently arrested in relation to multiple daytime residential Break and Enters in the area of Dundas which occurred between March and July 2018. As a result of the continued investigation, the Hamilton Police BEAR unit has recovered a significant amount of property.

Police conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was towing a stolen trailer. Police arrested the driver and passenger for possession over $5000. Located inside the trailer were two stolen motorcycles.

As a result of this investigation Tyler WALDSCHMIDT 32-years-of-age, from Hamilton and David PETERS 38-years-of-age, from Simcoe have both been charged with Possession of Stolen Property over $5000 (X3).

On June 15, 2018, shortly after 2:00 p.m., Hamilton Police B.E.A.R unit and H.E.A.T units were in the area of Head Street and Mill Street in Dundas investigating criminal activity.

Police conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Ram pick-up truck that was pulling a stolen trailer. Police arrested the driver and passenger for possession over $5000. Police searched the motor vehicle and trailer and located two stolen motorcycles.

As a result of this investigation Tyler Waldschmidt 32-years of Hamilton and David Peters 38-years of Simcoe, have been each charged with Possession over $5000 X 3.
