On Monday, June 24, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., two suspects were observed fleeing on foot after setting fire to a Pride flag located at a school in the area of Barton Street and Fifty Road in Stoney Creek. Two other suspects were seen running in the same direction.

The Arson Unit, in collaboration with the Hate Crime Unit, is actively investigating the incident. Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects. Citizens who were in the vicinity at the time and may have witnessed the incident or have video evidence are urged to come forward. We ask that you review any video you may have between 9:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. and contact police with anything suitable.

Officers arrived at the scene on Market Street to find evidence of gunfire. As the investigation unfolds, community members can expect to see our officers continuing to process the scene and canvass for witnesses and video today.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m., on Sunday, June 23, 2024, Hamilton Police responded to a report of possible shots fired in the area of 155 Market Street in the City's downtown. Initial reports indicated the sound of gunfire was heard, with additional information suggesting two suspects were observed fleeing the scene on foot.

Upon arrival, officers secured the scene, although the suspect(s) had already fled the area. Evidence confirmed a shooting had taken place.

No physical injuries have been reported to police at this time in relation to the shooting.

On Sunday, May 26, 2024, shortly after 10:00 p.m., a vehicle arrived at 2 Oriole Crescent. An individual was observed standing out of the sunroof of the vehicle and fired multiple rounds at nearby vehicles and residences. No physical injuries have been reported to police.

The vehicle used in this shooting has been identified and recovered by investigators. Police are seeking the suspects involved in this shooting. One suspect can be observed standing out of the sunroof of the vehicle shown in the video clips. The suspect was observed to be wearing a black or dark-coloured hoodie and a blue medical mask.

Hamilton Police are asking residents in the area to review their security surveillance between the hours of 9:50 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2024, for any suspicious activity. Furthermore, if you were driving in the area and have dashcam footage that you feel would be suitable for review, please contact investigators.

All three suspects were last seen running southbound on Blake Street from Maplewood Avenue shortly before midnight on Friday, May 17, 2024.

The investigation began on May 18, 2024, after reports of gunfire. Evidence was later found on May 20, 2024, confirming shots had been fired shortly before midnight on May 17, 2024. Enhanced patrols have been deployed in the area to ensure community safety and gather further evidence.

Hamilton Police are urging residents in the area with security cameras to review footage from May 17 and May 18 for any unusual or suspicious activity. Motorists who were in the area during these times and have dash cameras are also requested to check their recordings for potential leads.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate a bank robbery and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect vehicle and anyone known to be involved in this incident.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a local financial institution in the area of King Street West and Queen Street North for a robbery. The suspects fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.

Through continued investigation, police learned two males were involved in the robbery, entered the business and directed staff to open the safe. One suspect carried a handgun during the robbery and the suspects were able to obtain a quantity of money.

The suspects are described as middle-aged males, wearing dark clothing with black masks. One suspect was wearing red pants with paint splatters, while the other wore grey pants. Police believe the suspects fled in a newer model, red Jeep Grand Cherokee with blue Ontario licence plates.

On Thursday, December 21, 2023 shortly after 8:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were called to Lime Ridge Mall, 999 Upper Wentworth Street for a robbery that had just occurred. 

Four individuals entered a jewelry store, vandalized display cases, and stole jewelry. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

All suspects are described as young males wearing dark clothing. The suspects fled in a grey Chrysler 300 motor vehicle which was last seen in the area of Upper Sherman Avenue and Mohawk Road East. The vehicle was travelling east bound on Mohawk Road East at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The four suspects worked seamlessly as a team to carry out the crime. One individual served as a lookout, while another strategically blocked the victim's path as she exited the store. After closely following the victim within the store, the remaining two suspects approached her from behind and skillfully lifted her wallet from her purse. Subsequently, the suspects used the victim's debit and credit cards at nearby establishments.

These suspects are known to travel extensively throughout the province and occasionally across the country, targeting older individuals who are shopping alone. This criminal pattern suggests that the incident in question is likely not an isolated occurrence.

On  Sunday, October 29, 2023, shortly after 6:30 p.m., a black Lincoln Navigator was traveling in the area of Garth Street and Twenty Road when a damaged white Mercedes abruptly blocked their path. Four individuals exited the Mercedes, assaulted the occupants of the Lincoln Navigator, forcefully removed them from the vehicle, and fled the scene in the stolen Lincoln Navigator.

A 15-year-old male, a resident of Hamilton, has been taken into custody in connection with the Robbery with a Firearm. He has been charged with the following offenses:

·        Five Counts of YPC Robbery with a Firearm

·        Three Counts of YPC Breach Probation Youth

·        Two Counts of Fail to Comply with Youth Sentence

Further charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.

All occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries during the incident, none of these injuries were life-threatening.

The stolen Lincoln Navigator was located abandoned shortly after the incident. The white Mercedes left behind at the scene was reported as stolen from the Hamilton area. 
A firearm has been recovered.

The 15-year-old suspect is currently in custody and has been held for a bail hearing.

While one individual has been arrested, the search for the three remaining suspects continues. Hamilton Police are looking for witnesses to come forward in regards to a targeted arson.  

On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at approximately 8:30a.m., Hamilton Police and emergency partners responded to a fire at a restaurant in the area of Beach Rd and Kenilworth Avenue North. Investigation discovered, two suspects used an incendiary device to set fire to the building. Occupants residing in the upper floor apartments were home asleep at the time.      

The suspects are described as;

Suspect One: Male, white, thin build, tall, 25-35 years old, brown hair and short beard, wearing a black ball cap with white lettering, grey hooded top, blue jeans and black and white running shoes carrying a backpack.

Suspect Two: male, white, thin build, short, 25-35 years old, light brown shaggy hair, white surgical mask, light coloured ball cap with black circle decal, green hooded shirt, black track pants with white stripe running down leg, light brown boots and carrying an oversized thermos.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate into a disturbance that left one individual suffering from gunshot wounds.

On Sunday, September 18, 2022, shortly before 3:30a.m., Hamilton Police responded to a commercial plaza located at 200 Centennial Parkway North, for reports of shots fired in the area.  

Shortly after arriving on scene, officers located a 24-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to hospital in stable but critical condition.

Suspect 1 –male, dark skin, shoulder length black hair, slim build, wearing dark pants and no shirt

Suspect #2 – male, black, slim build, wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, dark coloured jeans and white and black running shoes.

Four suspects entered the business with various weapons including a firearm. Several employees and customers were in the store at the time of the incident. Suspects took merchandise from the store and fled in a dark coloured newer SUV.  The vehicle was last seen entering onto the QEW from the Lincoln Alexander Parkway.

Hamilton Police are seeking the public’s assistance in an ongoing investigation into a commercial break and enter.  

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, shortly after 10:00p.m., a break and enter occurred at a commercial business located on Upper James Street in the City of Hamilton.  

Two male suspects gained entry to the business by defeating the lock mechanism with a sledgehammer.  Once inside the commercial establishment the suspects stole product and fled the scene.

Suspect #1: male, thin build, wearing a light coloured Toronto Raptors hoodie.

Suspect #2: male, thin build, wearing a black hoodie.

In all three incidents, the vehicles were posted online through websites such as Auto Trader, Kijiji and Facebook. The sellers were contacted by a prospective buyer and arrangements were made to meet.

During the transaction, the suspect(s) looked for an opportunity to get into the vehicle alone and drove away.

• Meet in a public place

• Speak with the seller ahead of time and establish a plan, method of payment, route to test drive

• Turn on your location tracking on your device
• Ensure your meeting spot is surrounded by populated roads, avoid highways and urban if possible
• Should the vehicle flee please DO NOT attempt to stop the vehicle and put yourself at risk

On Monday, May 17, 2021, shortly before midnight, two unknown suspects entered the compound of Newport Yacht Club located at 711 North Service Road, Stoney Creek.

The suspects arrived in a pick-up truck, then attached a trailered 2017 Harris Cruiser boat with a 150HP Mercury outboard motor. The boat has the following identifiable items:

• The name of the boat is “LOU LOU”, located on the rear of the boat.
• The Transport Canada Registration # QC5577770 is located on the sides of the boat.

The boat was on a black trailer with four white rimmed tires and had a Quebec license plate attached.

Investigators from the BEAR Unit are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects and the location of the victim’s boat.

On Monday, November 9, 2020, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Hamilton Police received a report regarding mischief to the Sir John A. Macdonald Statue located in Gore Park, 1 Hughson Street South. Once on scene, police noted the statue was primarily covered in red paint. The immediate area was cordoned off and City of Hamilton officials were contacted. The area was processed and the statue was cleaned. 

Detectives from the Central Division Criminal Investigations Branch have reviewed the information gathered and now believe that between 1:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning, a handful of people were involved in a disturbance in the area of the statue.

The investigation remains ongoing as efforts are focused on identifying the individuals responsible for the crime.

On Sunday, August 20, 2020, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded for a car fire at 1565 Barton Street East. The vehicle, a 2011 Ford Escape SUV was destroyed by the fire which was extinguished. After speaking with witnesses, detectives from the BEAR Unit are looking to identify two males who are believed to have been involved.

On August 9, 2020, shortly after 6:30 p.m., three males arrived at a short term rental on Aberdeen Avenue in Hamilton to rent a room. At the time of their arrival, the males were loud and obnoxious which was causing concern to the other tenants. The building manager asked them to leave and provided a full refund. The males did not want to comply and escalated their intimidating behaviour. One male lifted his shirt to display the butt end of a handgun inside his waistband while another fired two rounds of buckshot into the ceiling, breaking a light fixture and damaging the drywall.

No injuries were reported. They were last seen leaving in a grey Toyota SUV.

Police were told the suspects were in town shooting a rap music video. Surveillance tape is being reviewed and looking for witnesses to come forward.

Catalytic converter thefts within Hamilton have been a persistent issue that continues to generate numerous calls for service. A two-week project targeting their theft yields multiple arrests.

In June of 2020, Hamilton Police initiated Project GARFIELD which focused on the theft of catalytic converters. The project was aimed at identifying and arresting suspects involved in the theft of catalytic converters. It also served to identify businesses and residences that have been affected by this crime. The project was designed as a preventive tool with components that included education, partnership with the community and the concentration of efforts on chronic offenders.

The project team included members of the Division 20 HEAT Unit, Crime Managers, uniform patrol and BEAR Unit. As indicated below, the blended team approach yielded significant results.

Over the course of two weeks, members of the Hamilton Police Service patrolled target areas and delivered the following results over the duration of the project;

• 27 Arrests
• 68 Criminal Charges laid
• 1 Criminal Code Search Warrant executed
• 45 Provincial Offence Notices issued

The individuals arrested were identified and became the focal point because of their propensity to commit crimes related to break and enter and theft of catalytic converters. They were not working in concert with one another and many of them were charged with failing to comply with conditions associated to property crimes.

Catalytic converters are typically targeted for their value in scrap metals.

The value of the damage caused in the removal of this exhaust component generally exceeds that of the part itself.

• Park vehicle in well-lit areas
• Park closer to pedestrian or vehicle traffic so it is not isolated
• When possible, park in areas that utilize video surveillance

Hamilton Police continue to investigate two overnight street robberies where high-end jackets were the target. Hamilton has seen a rash in street robberies involving high-end jackets over the past several months. Arrests have been made and police are asking the public to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to report incidents immediately.

On the evening of Monday, January 6, 2019, Hamilton Police received reports of two robberies.

Shortly after 7: 00 p.m., an individual was walking in the area of James Street North and Rebecca Street when he was approached by a group of young males. The victim was assaulted and his Moose Knuckle coat along with other personal property was taken as the suspects fled on foot.

The victim did not require medical attention.

The suspects are described as male youths with darker complexions.

Shortly before midnight, a second victim met up with two suspects in the area of Pier 8. An arrangement was made in advance through a social media app to sell a Moncler bomber jacket. Once in the company of the suspects, the jacket was handed over to try on. The victim was then threatened and the suspects fled with the jacket.

The victim did not require medical attention.

The suspects are described as male youths, one being Caucasian and the other black with a light complexion.

Hamilton Police have made arrests in relation to a high-end jacket street robbery that occurred in late December. Two males appeared in court today.

On Monday, December 23, 2019, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the victim and friend were in the area of King Street and James Street when they were approached by three males, one male was in possession of a weapon. The victim was assaulted by the males and his jacket was taken from him. The suspects fled on foot.

Through investigation, police identified and arrested two males in relation to the robbery. They appeared in court earlier today to answer to several criminal charges. The third male remains outstanding and police continue to investigate the incident.

• Do not walk alone, especially after dark

This could include sewing in a coloured label or placing an identifiable mark somewhere inside the jacket and if possible, take a photo for reference. On Thursday, August 29, 2019, shortly after 1:00 a.m., a group of males were walking in the area of Whitney Avenue and Emerson Street when another group instigated a physical confrontation. During the assault two males 19 and 20-years-old received injuries from an edged weapon and sprayed with a noxious substance.

The males were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police were provided descriptions of the 5-6 suspects that fled the scene in a smaller black motor vehicle.

On August 19, 2019, shortly before midnight, the victim was driving her vehicle on Rymal Road East in the area of Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway, with her five-year-old child. The victim heard the sounds of objects striking the side of her car and at the same time, observed a blue pickup truck driving past and laughter coming from within. The victim quickly realized that her five-year-old child had been struck beneath the eye from a projectile.

Police responded and found the child to have a welt underneath the affected eye, which did not require medical attention. The victim’s vehicle received minor damage as a result of multiple projectiles being fired at it. The suspects and vehicle fled westbound at Rymal Road East. The investigation has revealed that upwards of three people were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

On Saturday, July 6, 2019, shortly after 7:30 p.m., police answered a trespasser call in an alleyway between Maplewood Avenue and Balsam Avenue South, Hamilton. When Police arrived they found a stolen Dodge Caravan parked with a male and female inside. The occupants tried to exit the vehicle but they were quickly placed under arrest. Police located a quantity of methamphetamine and counterfeit US currency in their possession as well as an altered .22 caliber rifle inside the stolen van.

The parties were transported to custody and now face multiple firearm and possession charges.

On June 21, 2019, shortly after 1:00 a.m., Police received a 9-1-1 call for three suspects breaking into a residence in the area of East 38th Street and Crocket Street, in the City Of Hamilton. The occupants of the home were awoken by banging at their door. When the occupants went to investigate, they were confronted by three male suspects, one holding a firearm. The suspects forced their way into the home and when the occupants resisted the suspects fled the residence. The suspects were last seen running southbound on East 38^th Street towards Crocket Street and are believed to have driven away in a dark compact car similar to a Mazda 3.

Nothing was taken from the home and Police cannot rule out that this was a targeted incident.

Division 3 Detectives are following up this investigation and will be canvassing the area for witnesses and video surveillance.

On May 28, 2019, at 1:08 a.m., three suspects entered the McMaster Automotive Research Center located at 270 Longwood Road South, Hamilton. While inside the suspects removed copper wiring, plumbing fixtures, broke into locked tool boxes and stole thousands of dollars in construction tools.

At 4:52 a.m., a 1999-2006 black GMC Sierra with an extended cab pulled up to the bay door and two of the three suspects loaded up the truck with the stolen product. They were last seen travelling south on Longwood towards Aberdeen Avenue.

Daytime robbery occurs at a local Jewelry store and police are asking for you to call if you can identify them.

On April 20, 2019, a robbery occurred at Peoples Jewelry Store at Limeridge Mall, 999 Upper Wentworth Street in Hamilton. Shortly before 1:55 p.m., two masked suspects entered the store and attempted to smash display cases with a small hammer. The suspects fled without any merchandise through the parking lot in an easterly direction.

Suspect One

• Lighter-skinned black male, 17-25 years old, 5'9"-6'0" tall
• Slim build, short frizzy black hair, scruff on his face (not a beard), dark coloured eyes
• Dark blue/black and white Nike jacket, ripped black jeans, white shoes and grey gloves

Suspect Two

• Darker skinned black male, 17-25 years old, 5'4"-5'7" tall
• Heavier build than Suspect One, braids in hair
• Wearing a white (possibly skull) bandanna over the lower half of his face, a black Champion hoodie, black/grey gloves and dark pants

Hamilton Police B.E.A.R Unit is asking for assistance in identifying two suspects involved in a Robbery at a local pawn shop.

On March 7, 2019, shortly before 4:52 p.m., an employee was out front of Pawn Kings located at 1418 Main Street East in Hamilton when two masked suspects approached the store. One of the suspects grabbed the employee and put his hands behind his back and then pushed him inside the store, while the other suspect entered the store and confronted a second employee. Once inside the store, they stole money and merchandise before fleeing on foot.

There were no reported injuries.

• 6'2 - 6'3", 220lbs, dark hair
• Wearing a black ski mask with the mouth covered, black bomber style coat and possibly wearing sunglasses

• 5'4 - 5' 5", 120-130lbs,
• Possibly wearing black sunglasses and a toque

On January 6, 2019, Hamilton Police received a call from a 22-year-old victim stating he had been robbed by gunpoint while making a Kijiji sales transaction in the rear of a vehicle. The victim was selling his coat online and made arrangements to meet up with a buyer at the intersection of Goulding Avenue and Scenic Road, Hamilton shortly before 8:30 p.m. The victim sat in the back seat and had a handgun pointed towards him while demand was made to hand over his jacket and cell phone. The victim complied and was then pistol-whipped before he was able to exit the car.

Earlier that same day, a similar occurrence was reported from the parking lot of 977 Golf Links Road, Ancaster. A 21-year-old Ancaster male attended the parking lot shortly after 5:00 p.m., to sell his iPhone. The male was suspicious and refused to sit in the backseat of the buyer’s vehicle to do the transaction so the unknown males left without further incident.

At this time, Police believe the two incidents may be related.

Suspect #1 – Male black, 20-25-years, 5’11ft, 140 lbs, short braided dreadlocks. Wearing dark jogging pants and thin style hoodie.

Suspect #2 – Male black, 20-25-years, 6’3ft, 200-250 lbs, husky build and shorter black hair wearing a dark jacket.

Suspect #3 – Male black, 6’ft, stocky build, shorter black hair

The males were driving a dark colour 4-door SUV, similar to a Ford Escape or a Honda CRV.

Hamilton Police would like to encourage the public to take precautions when dealing with online sales transactions. Identify a safe, well-lit location, preferably in a public facility with security or cameras available and take a second person with you. Be wary of last minute changes to an agreed upon meeting location and never meet someone in a private location that is unfamiliar to you, or have people you do not know attend your home.
