On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, three businesses in the Waterdown area were targeted in a string of break and enter incidents. Hamilton Police’s Break, Enter, Auto Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Unit took identified two males involved in these crimes.

During an attempt to arrest one of the suspects on Monday, September 9, 2024, a 25-year-old male rammed a marked police vehicle while fleeing from a traffic stop. He was located and arrested, alongside a second male, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 by members of the Hamilton Fugitive Apprehension Unit.

Arrested:

Jacob Benford (25 years-of-age from Hamilton) faces the following charges:

• Break and Enter – Commit
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• 16 Counts of Fail to Comply with Probation (Adult)
• Three Counts of Operation While Prohibited
• Possession of Burglary Tools
• Dangerous Operation
• Flight from Peace Officer
• Failure to Stop After an Accident

Male Youth (16 years-of-age from Burlington) faces the following charges:

• Break and Enter – Commit
• Two Counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Two Counts of Mischief Over $5,000
• Theft Over $5,000

On Thursday, August 16, 2021, shortly after 10:30p.m., an unknown youth male walked up the driveway of a Waterdown residence and removed a 2S&LGBTQIA+ pride flag, which was hanging over the garage. The youth male then threw the flag on the ground and proceeded to stomp on it, eventually leaving the area with the flag.

The incident is being investigated as a hate crime.

As the charges are before the courts no additional information will be released.

Hate crime in Hamilton is not acceptable. Left unchecked, hate crime can have a far reaching impact on communities. Hate crimes can be reported online.

On May 6, 2021, shortly after 2:30 a.m., Hamilton Police were conducting surveillance in Waterdown Cemetery, when police observed a male walking into the cemetery and proceeding to push over a tombstone. Police intervened as the male was in the process of pushing over another gravestone.

Police arrested the male and took the accused into custody.

The suspect’s bail has been opposed.

This arrest concludes a one and half month investigation into vandalism and mischiefs that have been occurring overnight in a Waterdown Cemetery since March 14, 2021. At this point, police have located over 100 gravestones that have been spray painted, knocked over or broken.

The total damages to the tombstones is still being compiled but it is believes to be in the thousands.

On Monday, March 29, 2021 Hamilton Police executed a search warrant and subsequently a 33-year old man was arrested.

The male will appear in court later this afternoon.

On Monday, March 22, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the intersection of Main Street North and John Street East in Waterdown. Police learned that the victim was walking with his spouse in the area when the suspect approached and stabbed him multiple times. The spouse was knocked to the ground during the incident and received minor injuries.

Through further investigation, Police believe the suspect to be:

• Male, white
• Approximately 5’10
• Slim build
• Dark hip length jacket with hoodie
• Tan pants
• Dark shoes

If members of the public have any information as to the identity or whereabouts of the suspect, they are asked not to approach and to call 9-1-1 immediately.
