Hamilton Police responded to complaints of an impaired driver and located a sawed-off shotgun.

On Sunday, February 12, 2023, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Hamilton Police received reports of a possible impaired driver in the area of Barton Street and Sanford Avenue.

Hamilton Police responded to the area, located the vehicle and after investigation, arrested the driver for impaired driving. During the search of the vehicle, police located a sawed off shotgun.  

The 37-year-old male driver has been charged with;

• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drug.
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon.
• Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm.
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm.
• Fail to Comply with a Probation Order X2

Hamilton Police are investigating an assault with a weapon that occurred on Monday, May 16, 2022.

On Monday, May 16, 2022, at approximately 2:45a.m. an unknown male suspect entered a business in downtown Hamilton and selected merchandise before leaving without any attempt to pay. When confronted by an employee outside of the business the suspect brandished an unknown weapon and cut the employee before fleeing on foot southbound on John Street South.  

Investigators are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect for this assault. On Thursday, April 29, 2021, Hamilton Police applied for and were granted a search warrant for an apartment in the area of Queen Street North.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m., Police entered the residence and located Zacharias Corridon, Jason Smith, Lawrence Ross and a male youth.

Hamilton Police seized approximately 50 grams of fentanyl, blast knuckle/ flashlight conducted energy weapons, drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking, cash and more.

Four male were arrested and charged.

On Monday, December 21, 2020, a 20-year-old male was wounded and suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of one of the incidents. Following the initial assault, shootings were reported in a rural area and at three separate residences over the next few days.

As the investigation progressed, it became clear that each of the individual incidents were closely related. With the assistance of specialized units, uniform officers and cooperation from members of the community, four males were identified. Two individuals were located and arrested. A third male was already in custody.

On Thursday, January 14, 2021, the males were charged with several firearm-related offences. An arrest warrant has been since issued for the fourth male who is a youth.

It is important to note that three of the individuals responsible for these violent offences are young persons and as such, cannot be identified.

Hamilton Police need your help with a commercial business robbery. Anyone with information about the incident or can identify the suspect is asked to contact investigators.

On Monday, November 30, 2020, shortly after 6:15 p.m., a lone male suspect entered the Days Inn Hotel, located at 210 Main Street East, Hamilton. He approached the front counter and demanded money. At the time, the employee noted the male was in possession of a knife.

The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and other items as he fled the building. He was last seen leaving the area in a dark coloured vehicle that is believed to have been waiting for his departure.

The employee was not physically injured during the incident.

On November 23, 2020, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a lone male robbed a variety store located on Upper Wellington Street. The male arrived in a red sports utility vehicle, parked at the side of the building, entered the store in disguise and robbed the clerk by indicating he had a gun. A firearm was seen. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the suspect fled in the SUV. The clerk did not sustain any physical injuries.

On November 23, 2020, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the male described earlier arrived at another variety store located on Upper Wellington Street in the same SUV. The male indicated he had a firearm and robbed the clerk of an undisclosed amount of cash. He fled in the SUV and the clerk did not sustain any physical injuries.

Through continued investigation, a Hamilton man was identified as being responsible for the robberies and on Monday, December 21, 2020, plainclothes officers attended a residence on the West Mountain. The male was arrested without incident after exiting his residence.

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, search warrants were granted for the suspect’s residence and vehicle. Investigators located evidence related to the robbery inside the residence. The male has been charged with several offences and remains in police custody.

On Saturday, December 19, 2020, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence in the area of 5^th Concession Road West and Millgrove Side Road. Officers met the victim and witnesses at a nearby property where they obtained the details surrounding the event. The residence was checked and police confirmed the parties had left and nothing appeared to have been taken.

Through continued investigation, police learned the victim was inside his residence with friends when two masked males entered his home from a rear door. Demands were made for specific items in the home while one male held a handgun. They assaulted the victim as his friends fled the residence. A short time later, he vacated the residence to a place of safety, leaving the suspects inside.

The victim received minor injuries as a result of the incident and was medically cleared at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives from the Mountain Division Criminal Investigation Branch.

From the information gathered, detectives believe this was a targeted incident.

At this time it is not known how the suspects arrived and left the area. Police are asking area residents to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity and to contact police.

On Friday, October 23, 2020, the Hamilton Police disseminated a media release asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male.

Through investigation, a male was identified.

On Monday, December 14, 2020, a Canada Wide Arrest Warrant was issued for Jared MacLeod. With the assistance of the Calgary Police Service, MacLeod was located and arrested on Friday, December 18, 2020.

On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, shortly after 3:00 p.m. Hamilton Police responded to the area of James Street North and Robert Street for reports of a person in crisis. Officers used de-escalation techniques and minimal force to secure the male. During the incident, three officers were injured and they were transported to the hospital with various injuries to their neck and head.

The male sustained minor injuries before being safely apprehended and transported to the hospital for an assessment.

The officers received medical treatment and have since been released from the hospital. They are currently at home recovering from their injuries.

While police services routinely respond for calls of this nature, yesterday’s incident reminds us of the importance of community safety and the fact that no call for service is routine.

On Sunday, December 13, 2020, at 2:45 a.m., two males in disguise attended a variety store in the East End of Hamilton. Upon entering the store, one male went behind the counter while in possession of a knife as he verbally engaged the lone attendant. The second male who was also in possession of a knife approached the front counter. After a demand was made, the males obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and lottery tickets before fleeing on foot.

Through continued investigation, a Hamilton man was identified as one of the suspects. On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, a search warrant was granted by the court system allowing police access to his residence. Once inside, police located the suspect and he was arrested without incident.

Investigators seized evidence related to the robbery from the residence and the suspect was taken into police custody. Om Thursday December 17, his matter was addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse where he faced robbery related charges.

The investigation remains ongoing as one suspect is currently outstanding and the Hamilton Police Service is seeking assistance from the public to identify him.

On Thursday, December 17, 2020, shortly after 11:00 p.m., police responded to the Salvation Army located at 94 York Boulevard for reports of a male with a weapon. Once on scene, police located a 49-year-old male with facial injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp-edged weapon. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition with serious injuries. Police secured the immediate area and searched for the suspect. A short time later a 34-year-old male was located within the building. He was arrested without incident and taken into police custody.

A large knife was located at the scene and it was seized as evidence. Police believe it was used in the assault.

Through investigation, police learned the males are clients of the shelter and believe the incident was targeted.

The suspect will have his matter addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse later today where he will be facing several criminal charges.

On Sunday, November 29, 2020, shortly after 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Barton Street East and Kenilworth Avenue North, for reports of a person with a weapon. Once on scene, officers located the victim, a male in his late 20’s. He advised that he was inside a local business when a male verbally accosted him. The male made several derogatory statements to the victim referencing sexual orientation. The situation escalated resulting in the male chasing the victim outside of the business with a knife while threatening his life.

As officers interviewed the victim, the suspect was located and arrested without incident. During the search of the suspect police discovered he was in possession of brass knuckles, an undisclosed amount of Fentanyl, pieces of identification that were not in his name and the knife believed to have been used in the incident.

The suspect was taken into police custody and his matter was addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Monday, November 30, 2020, where he faced several criminal charges.

The victim was not physically harmed.

On Friday, August 21, shortly before 11:30 a.m., Hamilton Police received information that a person matching the description of a male who had chased a group of teens while being in possession of a knife was in the area of Locke Street South and Chatham Street. Officers immediately responded and the male was located near Hunter Street West and Richmond Street.

Through continued investigation, the male was confirmed to be the person involved. He was arrested without incident and taken into police custody. His matter will be addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Hamilton Police attended the area of Locke Street and Melbourne Street for a report of a male chasing several teens. Once on scene, police spoke with the group. They advised they were walking northbound on Locke Street when they observed a male who was walking towards them and who appeared to be focusing on one of the female teens. Another female in the group verbally confronted the suspicious male. He then ran towards them with what was believed to be a knife in his hand. The teens separated and the suspect briefly chased the female who had confronted him. He was unable to catch up to the teen and was last seen running westbound on Melbourne Street.

Officers conducted a thorough search of the immediate area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Hamilton Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the male.

With the information available, police believe the male was in possession of a knife at the time of the incident. If seen, police are instructing the public not to approach him but to contact 911 immediately. 

No one was physically injured in the incident.

On Monday, July 13, 2020, shortly before 8:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to reports of weapons call outside a commercial business located in the area of Fennell Avenue East and E26th Street, Hamilton. Upon arrival, officers obtained information that included a male was seated on the passenger side of a red sedan as he held a machete out of the window. The vehicle was located parked on the property and at the time, two males were seated inside. Police observed the driver was in possession of drug paraphernalia and an unsheathed machete was seen in plain view on the passenger side floor.

Through continued investigation, police determined the males were in possession of illicit drugs and cash. They were arrested without incident and taken into police custody. Their matter is scheduled to be brought before the courts later today.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, shortly after 1:00 a.m., a lone male suspect entered a gas station located in the area of Stone Church Road East and Upper Gage. He approached the counter and made a demand for money and merchandise from the staff. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency the suspect fled.

On Friday, May 22, 2020, shortly before 2:00 a.m., a lone male suspect entered a gas station located in the area of Upper James Street and Alderlea Avenue. He approached the counter and made a demand for money and merchandise from the staff. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency the suspect fled. Two days later, the gas station was again robbed in the same fashion.

During the three robberies, the suspect was in possession of a knife; however, no one was physically injured.

The Hamilton Police BEAR Unit has continued to investigate these incidents. After reviewing evidence, detectives believe one male was responsible. A search warrant application was submitted to the courts. On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, the warrant was executed at a Hamilton residence. The suspect was arrested and appeared at his bail hearing later that day.

The BEAR Unit has maintained carriage of this investigation and continues to review other incidents for any similarities.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, shortly after 10:30 p.m. Hamilton Police received information about a disturbance inside a residence located in the area of King Street East and Gage Avenue South. Officers immediately responded and secured the area which included closing King Street from Gage Avenue South to East Bend Avenue South.

Through continued investigation, police learned an assault had occurred inside the residence and a firearm was present. During the following hours, detectives applied for a search warrant. The warrant was granted and shortly after 7:00 am. Tactical officers entered the residence and no suspects were located inside.

As a result of the search, police have recovered firearms, controlled substances, as well as evidence of the alleged assault. Criminal charges are expected to be laid accordingly.

The investigation remains ongoing with police holding the scene and conducting interviews during the course of the day.

The two victims injured during the assault did not require medical attention and are expected to make a full recovery.

On Thursday, May 14, 2020, shortly before 7:00 p.m., a male was exercising in the North West corner of Gage Park, located at 1000 Main Street East. At that time, an unknown male approached and initiated a conversation. He requested the victim turn over property to him and when he did not get any, he assaulted the victim with an unknown weapon and fled the area.

Hamilton Police were contacted and immediately responded. The area was searched but met with negative results.

The victim was treated at the scene by Hamilton Paramedics for a non-life threatening injury to his upper body. He was later transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.

Detectives from the East End Station Criminal investigation Branch continue to investigate this incident and are asking anyone who was in the area at the time or has information about this incident to contact police.

Hamilton Police will be in the area today canvassing for potential witnesses.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate an early morning robbery and are asking area residents to check their surveillance cameras and report any suspicious activity.

On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, shortly after 7:00 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Hughson Street North and Robert Street for a robbery. Once on scene, police spoke with the victim who advised that after parking her car in the underground garage, she was approached by an unknown male who demanded her purse. She turned over her purse and cell phone to the suspect who then fled on foot.

During the incident, the victim noted the suspect was in possession of a dark coloured bar and a knife. The suspect did not raise the weapons towards the victim nor was the victim physically injured.

Through continued investigation, police have obtained an image of the suspect and believe he may have been involved in an unrelated incident in the area of Mary Street and Barton Street East, before the robbery.

Area residents are asked to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity from the early morning hours of April 22 and to contact police.

On Sunday, March 29, 2020, shortly before 5:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of the Redhill Valley Parkway and Dartnall Road for reports of a suspicious vehicle being driven erratically. A short time later, officers located the vehicle operator walking westbound on Stonechurch Road East at Dartnall Road. As officers approached, the male fired two shots from a firearm in their direction. The officers were able to verbally deescalate the situation and the male discarded the firearm. He was arrested and taken to a local hospital where he was medically cleared.

Through investigation, police confirmed the firearm was a pellet gun.

On Monday, March 30, 2020, the male is scheduled to have his matter addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse. He will be answering to several criminal charges.

No physical injuries were incurred as a result of the incident.

On Friday night a male confronted two people in an attempt to steal their vehicles. He was successful in one incident. The male and vehicle are currently outstanding.

On Friday, March 13, 2020, shortly after 8:00 p.m., the complainant was sitting in the front passenger seat of her Dodge Ram pickup truck in the parking lot of Dundurn Plaza. The plaza is located at the intersection of Dundurn Street South and Main Street West. At that time, an unknown male approached and attempted to gain entry to the vehicle. The complainant’s husband was exiting a store and observed the male’s actions. He yelled at the male, scaring him off. The male was last seen running eastbound as he crossed Dundurn Street.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Hamilton Police received information about a similar incident in the area of Locke Street North and York Boulevard. Officers responded immediately and met the complainant who advised she had just parked her vehicle on the road when she was approached by an unknown male. He initiated a conversation and then demanded the keys to her car. Once in possession of the keys, the male entered the vehicle and drove off as the complainant and her passenger fled to a nearby home where they contacted police. Her vehicle is described as a silver, 2006 Toyota Matrix with Ontario licence plate 107YEX.

Through continued investigation, police believe one male is responsible for the two incidents and at the time, he was in possession of a weapon that resembled a handgun.

Early this morning officers on proactive patrol investigated a cyclist for a Highway Traffic Act violation. The investigation resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs and prohibited weapons. The cyclist will appear in court later today.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2020, shortly after 1:30 a.m., police observed a cyclist travelling eastbound on Campbell Avenue approaching Rosslyn Avenue. The bicycle did not have an operating lighting system which was in violation of the Highway Traffic Act. A traffic stop was conducted at the above-mentioned intersection. The male rider failed to follow police instructions and became evasive in his responses. Through continued investigation, police learned he was in possession of illicit drugs and prohibited weapons. The male was arrested and the evidence was seized.

A 21-year-old Hamilton man is scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse later today to answer to several criminal charges.

The Hamilton Police BEAR Unit continues to investigate two nighttime robberies that share the same suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

On Tuesday, December 24, 2019, shortly after 11:30 p.m., a male in disguise entered the Subway Restaurant located in the area of John Street South and Young Street, Hamilton. At the time, he was in possession of a yellow axe. The suspect was able to obtain property from the store along with an undisclosed amount of Canadian Currency prior to fleeing the scene. The on-duty staff was not injured during the incident.

On Saturday, December 28, 2019, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a male in disguise entered the Subway Restaurant located in the area of John Street South and Young Street, Hamilton. At the time, he was in possession of a yellow axe. Due to activation of an audible alarm, the suspect was unsuccessful in robbing the store and fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Through investigation, Hamilton Police now believe one suspect is responsible for the two incidents.

Between Tuesday, October 8, 2019 and Monday, December 9, 2019, three unrelated convenience stores in Hamilton were robbed by a lone male suspect. In one of the robberies, the store clerk received non-life threatening injuries from a knife when he confronted the suspect.

Through continued investigation, the suspect was identified and on Thursday, December 12, 2019, the suspect was arrested and search warrants were executed on his home and motor vehicle. The suspect was taken into police custody and appeared for a bail hearing later that day.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Daniel McDermott is wanted in relation to an early morning shooting incident that sent a male to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Saturday, November 9, 2019, shortly after 2:00 a.m., an altercation occurred between two males in the area of Cannon Street East and Huntley Street. One male was shot in the face with a BB gun. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Through investigation, a Hamilton man was identified as the suspect in the incident. A warrant of arrest was sought by police and on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, the warrant was issued.

Daniel McDermott, 22-years-of-age is now wanted in relation to the incident. He is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, do not approach, contact 9-1-1 immediately.

On Monday, October 28, 2019, shortly after 11:00 a.m., Hamilton Police officers were in attendance in a residential area located near Upper Wellington Street and Limeridge Road East, Hamilton. At the time, they were investigating two males who were believed to be involved in criminal activities and likely in possession of weapons. One male was sitting in a vehicle while the other was standing directly outside. As police approached, the males fled the scene. One male was later located at the rear of a nearby strip plaza. He was arrested and taken into police custody.

Through investigation, he was properly identified after he initially provided false information pertaining to his identity to police and he was further charged with violations to previous court-ordered conditions.

An investigation into the male’s identity confirmed his arrest was in violation of previous court-ordered conditions.

The vehicle involved was searched by police and a loaded handgun was recovered.

A 21-year-old Scarborough man will appear in court today to answer to several criminal charges.

The second male involved in the incident remains outstanding. He has been identified and a warrant for his arrest exists in relation to a previous occurrence.

An additional warrant for his arrest was issued today in relation to this incident.

On Sunday, October 27, 2019, shortly before midnight, a couple was in a residence on Bowman Street when they were assaulted after opening the door to three masked males. The male victim, 19-years-of-age from Etobicoke, received injuries from a sharp-edged weapon. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The female victim, 19-years-of-age from Hamilton, was sprayed with an unknown aerosol irritant. She was medically treated at the scene.

The three masked suspects fled the scene. They are described as being brown-skinned and wearing dark clothing.

Through investigation, police believe this was a targeted incident in relation to a disturbance that took place at the residence the night before.

The Hamilton Police BEAR Unit continues to investigate a bank robbery from early September. Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the robbery or the suspect to come forward.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, shortly before 2:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the Royal Bank located at 545 Rymal Road East, Hamilton for a Robbery.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival, however, through investigation, police learned a lone male entered the bank and approached the wicket. He produced a note that stated it was a robbery and he was in possession of a weapon. The suspect was able to obtain an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency and then fled on foot.

A weapon was not seen and no one was injured during the incident.

Investigators from the BEAR Unit are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in the investigation.

On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, shortly after 4:30 p.m., a confrontation occurred outside Limeridge Mall between a group of young people and two adults. One of the adults was bumped and words were exchanged. The second adult was repeatedly punched and kicked. The assault continued until concerned citizens intervened and the suspects fled the area.

During the assault, a knife was displayed to the victims.

Hamilton Police Mountain Division detectives have continued the investigation and identified the parties involved in the incident. They were arrested and taken into police custody. They have been released and are scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 15, 2019.

The victims received minor injuries, none in relation to the knife.

On Saturday, October 5, 2019, just shortly after 2:00 a.m., a physical altercation occurred between one male who was approached by two male suspects at a bar in the West End of Hamilton. During the incident, the lone male received an injury from a knife held by one of the suspects. The second suspect displayed a handgun and then pointed it at the victim. The victim was transported to the hospital by his friends. On-duty staff recognized the level of injury and contacted police.

Hamilton Police detectives have determined the incident occurred at The West Lounge Café located at 807 Main Street West. The suspects have been identified and warrants for their arrest have been issued.

An 18-year-old male and 14-year-old male, both from Hamilton, will be charged with 1^st-degree murder. They will appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse, 45 Main Street East later today to answer to the charge.

Under the regulations of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified.

A third male youth was arrested last night at approximately 6:00 p.m. He was interviewed and later released unconditionally once his involvement in the investigation was established.

The name of the victim will not be released at this time.

The weapon used in the incident has not been recovered. Residents in the area who find anything suspicious on their property are urged not to touch the item but to contact 9-1-1 immediately.

Hamilton Police officers will remain in the area for the majority of the day processing evidence and canvassing. Police will continue to work with Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School and the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. Grief counsellors will be available for those affected by the incident.

On Friday, August 30, 2019, shortly after 5:00 a.m., two males were waiting for a bus near the intersection of Main Street West and Osler Drive. They were approached by a group of males who exited a vehicle and threatened them with a knife. The victims turned over their wallets and were not injured. The group of males drove away in a white four-door sedan.

Within minutes, one victim’s bank card was used at a nearby gas station to make a purchase. The person using the debit card was captured on store surveillance. Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the suspect.

The suspect is a male believed to be in his early twenties, medium complexion, medium build with dark facial hair and dark hair.

Hamilton Police were recently alerted to a sexual assault which occurred on Monday, September 23, 2019, in the early morning hours. An adult female was sexually assaulted in a secluded area of Valley Park, located at 970 Paramount Drive, Stoney Creek. The two male suspects were wearing dark clothing and one was in possession of a knife. Their direction of travel after the incident is unknown.

The female safely escaped without injury from the knife.

Hamilton Police have continued to investigate the parking lot shooting incident that occurred at the intersection of Cannon Street East and Sanford Avenue North on Tuesday, September 23, 2019. Through investigation, detectives identified a male who administered bear spray during the incident.

On Friday, September 26, 2019, Hamilton Police arrested and charged an 18-year-old male for Hamilton for his involvement in this occurrence. He was taken into police custody and later released. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, to answer to several criminal charges. The male is not cooperating with police.

Divisional Detectives continued the investigation and on Wednesday, September 18, the suspect vehicle and driver were located in the area of Upper Wentworth Street and Fennell Avenue East. The driver resisted arrest but was taken into custody without injury to himself or the officer. The vehicle was seized by police and he was searched and found to be in possession of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest.

Hamilton Police applied for a search a warrant and on Friday, September 20, 2019, the warrant was executed on the vehicle. A Daisey Powerline 340 Pellet gun was seized as well as cocaine.

On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, shortly after 3:00 p.m., two females who are known to each other were involved in a physical altercation at a residence in the area of Millwood Place and Carousel Avenue. One of the females received injuries caused by a knife. The 20-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Hamilton Police received information about a male with a weapon inside a store located in the area of Barton Street East and Chapple Street. Officers immediately responded and located a male matching the description as he was attempting to leave. He was detained by police and through investigation police determined he was in possession of a prohibited weapon and an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine. The weapon is described as a device capable of delivering an electronic current in the form of plastic knuckle guards. He was arrested without incident.

Further investigation revealed he was bound a weapons prohibition order and was also recently released on a court order for possession of Heroin and failing to comply with a probation order.

The male was taken into police custody and will appear in court today to answer to several criminal charges.

On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, shortly before 1:30 a.m., Hamilton Police officers working in plainclothes were proactively patrolling the area of Sherman Avenue South and Main Street East. At that time they observed a male riding a black bicycle northbound on Sherman Avenue with no lights.

Officers followed the male on Sherman Avenue, identified themselves as police and ordered him to stop as they approached Dunsmure Road. The male refused to comply as he continued riding. The officers followed the cyclists until he fell off his bicycle and began running. He was arrested in the area of Wilson Street and Chestnut Avenue after physically resisting arrest. A search of the male revealed he was in possession of a 12” knife concealed under his jacket as well as an expandable baton. Possession of both items, when hidden on a person, is a criminal offence.

Police conducted an investigation into the male’s identity and learned he was currently bound by a court order for a previous sentence for possession of a prohibited weapon. His arrest signified a violation of that court order.

The male was taken into police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, to answer to several criminal charges.

Hamilton Police charged two males after finding drugs and firearms in a Hamilton Mountain residence.

On December 6, 2018, Hamilton Police Vice and Drug branch executed a search warrant at a Hamilton Mountain residence. Once inside the home, police located a substantial amount of illicit drugs as well as a firearm and ammunition. One male from Hamilton faces drugs and firearms charges while a second male also faces charges for possession of the firearm

As a result of the investigation, Stephen Macdonald, a 30-year-old male, from Hamilton, and Naaman Walters a 19-year-old male, were both arrested and charged with the following offences:

• Possession of Heroin for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of Proceeds of Crime under $5,000.00
• Adult Possession of a firearm Contrary To Order

Total amount of drugs seized

• 651 grams of fentanyl and heroin
• 300 grams of cocaine

Police estimate the street value of the drugs seized at $ 220,000. Also seized was a Non-Restricted Semi-Automatic Simonov SKS 1945 Rifle along with ammunition

The accused appeared in court on Friday, December 7, 2018, to answer to several criminal charges.

On Monday, August 13, 2018, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Hamilton Police investigated an alleyway in the rear of 629 Barton Street East, Hamilton. While in the area, police noted the odour of burnt marijuana. A group of males were observed standing beside a black Honda Civic while one male was sitting in the vehicle.

Through investigation, police identified the occupant of the vehicle and subsequently seized from plain view, illicit drugs that included marijuana and psilocybin. The male occupant was also in possession of a prohibited weapon – switchblade.

A 30-year-old Brampton man has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

• Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
• Possession of Controlled Substance - Marijuana
• Possession of Controlled Substance - Psilocybin

The accused will appear in court on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, to answer to the charges.
