On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, shortly after 8:30 a.m., police responded to the area of Emerald Street North and Keith Street after an 11-year-old girl was struck by a westbound blue Ford Mustang. The vehicle continued through the intersection striking the young child, pinning her against a building.

The child was transported to the hospital in critical condition and now remains in stable condition with life-altering injuries. The driver of the Mustang was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and are asking for any witnesses or motorists with dash cameras who were in the area during the time of the collision to review their footage. Additionally, residents or businesses with surveillance cameras are asked to check their recordings for any relevant information.

Officers were on patrol around 9:20 p.m. when they observed a disturbance break out near the midway between two males. This took place at a time and location that was filled with hundreds of people, including children and families. As officers approached, bystanders alerted them that one suspect had a firearm.

A 23-year-old male was quickly arrested and was found to be in possession of a firearm, with a high-capacity magazine and ammunition.

Charged:

Devontae Trevon Sutherland, 23-years-old, from Toronto

• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm- Loaded
• Possession of a Prohibited Weapon X3

He remains in custody at this time.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who were present at the time of the incident and assisted officers. Video surveillance on Main Street East shows an unknown male picking up another male in a green Nike tracksuit at the corner of Leinster Avenue South and Main Street East at 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. He drives him a few hundred metres down the road and drops him off at the corner of Connaught Avenue South and Main Street East. 

The man wearing the green Nike tracksuit has been identified. Investigators are now working to identify the unknown individual who picked him up.

The vehicle is a four-door red Hyundai Elantra with black rims.

On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to 501 Barton Street East, Woodlands Park after receiving information that a shooting had taken place. Upon arrival officers located a 36-year-old male suffering from a gunshot. The male was transported to hospital and remains in stable condition with life threatening injuries.

At this time police are seeking suspects and ask anyone who may have witnessed this crime to come forward. Investigators are  also requesting that anyone with a residences, businesses or vehicle with cameras to review their security surveillance between 9:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. for any suspicious activity in relation to this event.

On Thursday, November 22, 2018, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Marko (Mark) Bakir was shot to death at his home on Clifton Downs Road in the City of Hamilton. Over the past three years, police continue to investigate Marko's murder and are still seeking witnesses.  Investigators have information that there are individuals in our community as well as outside of Hamilton who have pertinent information but have yet to come forward to police.  Marko is a son, brother, uncle and friend to many, they miss him deeply and are looking for answers in his murder.

A statement from Marko's family:

 "Mark Bakir was a loving, caring and altruistic son, brother, friend and uncle. He was spontaneous and lived his life to the fullest. He loved going on vacations, spending time with his family and spoiling his two dogs Rex and Diamond. If you had to describe Marko in one word, it would simply be loveable. He was loved by everyone. He posted positive, encouraging quotes daily, was supportive and would give you the shirt off his back. He was very unique. 

There’s not a day that goes by where he doesn’t cross our minds. Holidays, family gatherings and life itself is less sweet without Marko. We all miss him unconditionally and still can’t believe he has been gone for more than 3 years. 

We pray you are at peace smiling down at us in heaven. The memories we have with you will never be forgotten and cherished forever. You will always be in our hearts and prayers. Your family and friends all wish you were here as you are deeply missed. The fact that you’re no longer here with us will always cause us pain, but you’re forever in our hearts until we meet again. We love you until the end of time Marko.  We are pleading for anyone with information regarding Mark's murder to contact the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit so we can get answers and get justice so we can continue into the next stage of the grieving process."

On Thursday, January 16, 2020, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Hamilton Police received reports of a shooting in the area of Celtic Drive and Carpenter Avenue in Stoney Creek. Residents in the area reported hearing what sounded like two gunshots.

Police checked the area and located two large calibre casings on the roadway. A bullet was also found lodged in the front door of a residence. At this time it appears the shooting was targeted. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect running south on Celtic Drive and then east on Carpenter Avenue.

This was confirmed by security camera footage.

• Slim build, younger, wearing dark clothing and a hoodie

Hamilton Police are seeking witnesses and asking residents to check their security systems for any suspicious activity that may have occurred in the areas of Upper Wellington Street and Brucedale Avenue or Thayer Avenue and East 16^th Street in Hamilton on Monday night between 11:30 p.m., and midnight.

On October 22, 2019, shortly after midnight, Police received a 9-1-1 call for three suspects that had entered a residence in the area of Upper Wellington Street and Brucedale Avenue. The suspects ransacked the residence and confronted a female occupant who was sleeping in a bedroom. The male occupant returned to the residence shortly after and was confronted by one of the suspects who was armed with a firearm. The male occupant believed he heard a shot fired by one of the suspects as he fled the residence.

All three suspects fled the area in the homeowner's rented vehicle, last seen travelling northbound on Upper Wellington Street from Brucedale Avenue. A cell phone belonging to the male occupant was recovered in the area of Thayer Avenue and East 16^th Street.

Police believe this was a targeted incident. No one was injured.

Divisions three, Criminal Investigation Detectives, are following up this investigation and will be canvassing the area for witnesses and video surveillance throughout the day today.

Suspect 2: Male, black, slim build, 5’8”, wearing a black hoodie with a ski mask over his face, black track pants, black shoes and black gloves with orange ribbing

Suspect 3: Male, black, 5’10-5’11”, black hoodie with a ski mask over his face, black tight track pants, black shoes and black gloves

Stolen Vehicle: 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Grey with Ontario licence CKZZ429

Hamilton Police are considering the suspects to be armed and dangerous and asking the public not to approach them or the vehicle if seen and to call 911 immediately.

On Thursday, August 29, 2019, shortly after 1:00 a.m., a group of males were walking in the area of Whitney Avenue and Emerson Street when another group instigated a physical confrontation. During the assault two males 19 and 20-years-old received injuries from an edged weapon and sprayed with a noxious substance.

The males were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police were provided descriptions of the 5-6 suspects that fled the scene in a smaller black motor vehicle.

Suspect #1

• Male black, 19-20 years old, long dreadlocks, heavier set, 5’8-5’9.

Suspect #2

• Male white, red hair, tall with a slim build

Suspect #3

• Male Middle Eastern, 18-19 years old, 5’10, clean cut

Police continue to collect details on the outstanding suspects.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2019, Hamilton Police responded to the Tim Hortons located at the intersection of Caroline Street South and King Street West for a person with a weapon. Divisional Detectives investigated and charged a 16-year-old male with numerous offences including multiple firearms-related offences and Attempted Murder. The investigation continues and police are searching for the following witnesses:

Witness #1

Male, dark hair, olive coloured jacket, blue jeans, brown shoes

This witness arrived on foot northbound on Caroline Street. He was standing at the Tim Hortons counter when the shot was fired.

Witness #2 and #3

Young female, red coat, pink purse, blue jeans, grey shoes (possibly Keds)

Young female, blue coat, blue jeans, white sneakers, backpack

These two young females had been dropped off together in a dark coloured four-door sedan and had been standing at the Tim Hortons counter when the shot was fired.

Witness #4

Adult female, olive green coat (yellow or white coloured stripe), blue jeans, black shoes

This woman was driving a dark coloured sedan. She stopped to talk to a male who had been standing outside of the Tim Hortons after the shot was fired. Investigators believe that she had been at Vida La Pita which is located beside the Tim Hortons.
